Kelly Ripa made a stink several months back when Clay Aiken co-hosted Live with Regis & Kelly and (in a failed attempt to be funny) covered her mouth with his hand.
"I don't know where that hand has been," shouted Ripa to the Gayken.
Her comments drew much controversy, and she eventually called in to The View to defend herself, saying that she has three kids and was concerned about germs.
Interesting thing happened, though.
On Monday, July 9th's episode race car driver Jeff Gordon was the co-host.
He accidentally drinks from her cup and apologizes. Her response? "Oh, that's ok," as she takes a sip.
So Gayken's hand is too germy, but Jeff Gordon's spit is just fine?
Seems like a double standard to us.

kelly took the potshot at the gayken because he was being so incredibly rude to her throughout the show. it definitely did reference the gay rumors, but nevertheless i don't think she's homophobic; i think she was just trying to get in a good shot at him. besides, her husband's as metro as can be and she doesn't mind him!
I think the act of him putting his hand on her mouth was a disgusting act of invading her space and rudeness. She was responding to his audacity and the fact that he was being obnoxious and already on her nerves. It has nothing to do with his sexuality. I'd have decked him if he'd touched me that way.

Actually, I don't think this means anything at all. I genuinely freak out when people put their hands on my face - especially around my mouth - but drinking after other people doesn't bother me…unless it's from a can. You're reading way too much into this whole situation.

The difference is that Jeff Gordon accidentally drank from her cup and then gave her the choice to be exposed to the cup that his saliva had come into contact with.
Your hand comes into contact with many more germs over the course of the day. Doorknobs, tabletops etc. and you can transport germs on your hand that can make someone else ill even if you yourself aren't. You're not going to catch anything from coming into contact with another person's saliva unless the person has a serious illness that is contagious [like HIV] or unless they're demonstrably ill themselves which is a major difference.
Not to mention that Clay Aiken completely violated her personal space when he put his hand over her mouth. And when he put his hand over her mouth it was at the end of winter when the likelihood of being subjected to illness was that much greater.
