Yeah, Canadians are SO LUCKY right? My cousin lives up there, found out she had a lump in her breast, and because they have such GREAT health care she gets to wait for at least 3 MONTHS before they do a biopsy to find out if she has CANCER!!! That could be done in a second here in the States because of our health care system. That's what we'd be trading in for…yes, health care for all would be super, but you'd pay a price too. (This is coming from someone who has not had health care in 10 years too.)

P.S. If you think Fahrenheit 9/11 was so great, watch FahrenHYPE 9/11 too to see the counterpoints. They interviewed the soldiers Moore did–he edited their comments to fit his documentary and portrayed them in a way they did not agree to. Moore likes to twist and turn his "facts" into something that benefits the sick things that go on in his mind.

As an individual who works on the operational side of healthcare (in U.S.) let me tell you healthcare is a business and is all about the $$$$$$. The patients do not matter -unfortunately-.

I hear all these people saying MM's a fat, ugly slob. And?? What does that have to do with what he spoke about? How come people can't get past what he looks like- I mean really, who gives a shit? Did you HEAR what he was saying, or were you too focused on the fact that he's overweight and not gorgeous? And to folks complaining about his documentaries being one-sided: wake up. I've seen many documentaries, and almost ALL of them present one side of a story somewhat more strongly than the other- the whole purpose of documentaries is to shed light on a subject by presenting cold, hard facts. If he's trying to show the sad state of our healthcare system, he's going to pull out the facts that prove it. He's right, many Americans DON'T know about the issues he presents, and we're often too comfortable to care. If MM and other media sources present in line with our beliefs, we tend to believe they're unbiased, anyway- take Fox News Channel and its million of watchers who claim that it is UNbiased and more accurate (guess what percentage of THOSE watchers are Republicans?), when it is certainly one of the most biased US news media outlets that exist. FYI, in a study done by the World Health Organization, the US healthcare system was ranked 37th in the world in quality, but #1 in cost. This is a summarization, but you get the gist. And many politicians and corporations like to take advantage of the fact that most Americans are blissfully unaware of foreign healthcare systems, and what ours COULD be. Maybe MM is worth hearing out, even if you do think he's a "fat, ugly slob".

So Alex, if your house was on fire, and the fire dept. was run as a private "for profit" business, that would mean, that before they'd actually, you know, save your house from burning down, they'd first wanna have you prove that you can PAY for them to "save your house" from burning down, and, well, you know the deal.
Would you like that? Maybe you should stop paying taxes altogether. And just try not to worry about whether all those other "free" services from the goverment that you take for granted, will be there for YOU, when you need them.

Oh, and let me take a moment to address your canards about "socialized medicine" and government not being "efficient".

First, the government DOES do things efficiently — they do Medicare AND Medicaid (both of which, i heat to break it to you, are, um "socialized medicine"); Also, the government SOCIAL SECURITY — efficiently.

Those SS checks arrive on time each and every month, with the exact amount of money owed. So, um, yeah, there's like, 30-45 years of proof that the "government" that you're so ready to shit on, actually is efficient — AND — provides "socialized" medicine.

It's just that THIS GOVERNMENT — the Bush/Cheney "kingdom" — doesn't do anything efficiently and are inept to the point of having contempt for the Constitution AND for American people, they are supposed to be serving.

Then again, when you have people in power from a party that despises the federal "government", and then goes about by appointing political hacks who purposely abuse it and gouge it's coffers for their own politcal gain or wealth to the point that there's no money left to actually EFFICIENTLY RUN the government, well then, OF COURSE, the "government" is not "efficient".

I mean, when you're driving your car (or your mommy's driving you to school in her car), the road you're driving on, and the maintenance of it, are paid by your em, TAXES, you know, just like a universal health care system would be covered — yet you (and your mom) don't say that the road you're driving is "free", do you?

You're correct, taxes would be increased drastically. If you knew what we paid in federal tax in Canada you'd probably flip your lid.

We might have to wait for certain things here and there but for the most part, it's there right when you need it. If you're sick, walk into a clinic.

What blows my mind when you defend your country's system regarding tax increases, is when you look at the major health expensives. Yeah, in canada, we pay higher tax, but when you get in a car accident it doesn't cost you FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. Or when your wife has a baby, it doesn't cost her TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. It's FREE.

Maybe someone who buys flat screen tvs who complains about the odd doctor bill doesn't seem like a big deal to you, but if that same person (the average american or YOU for that matter) was diagnosed with a disease or are in an accident, YOU'RE BANKRUPT! Have fun!
