When Avril "Hack" Lavigne was sued by 70's band The Rubinoos for allegedly stealing the hook to one of their old tunes, she fired back by claiming that she had never even heard the song.
How is she going to explain this one????
Lavigne's songwriting "abilities" - or lack thereof - have been questioned by her former collaborators, from The Matrix to Chantal Kreviazuk.
As PerezHilton.com pointed out earlier, a good portion of Avril's song I Don't Have To Try off her new album sounds almost identical to the song I'm The Kinda by electro-pop-punk princess Peaches - off her brazilliant 2003 album Fatherfucker.
Lavigne won't be able to say she doesn't know who Peaches is!

While I thought the Rubinoos argument was weak and a lame attempt to get back in the spotlight, I have to agree that this song sounds identical to the Peaches one. I guess if I were an Avril fan I'd be disappointed. Creativity in songwriting must be hard to come by these days.

Ok so as a song writer I can honestly say that the Rubinoos don't have a leg to stand on really. I think it was just a case of her (writers) writing something similar (for her to sing). However the Peaches idea is a total rip off… That being said it's tough to copywrite beats…I would think. I mean how many blues songs sound the same ? Either way I think her process is that she has an idea for a song…then sits in while somoeone else writes it. In the music world that is quite common.

I rarely listen to radio, I heard Avril's track on Sirius — and I thought it sounded familiar!!! I love peaches, I've been lucky enough to see her in person. She breaks the mold, puts herself out there, opens EYES! Avril capitalizing on this, is just plan wrong. As God is my witness and may I be struck dead by lightening as I sit here if I'm lying (and I have nothing to gain by lying) here is a TRUE story!!!! A good friend of mine (at the time) was a guitarist in a band in Baltimore, somehow (i don't remember how) he got to try out for Avril's band tour in 2002 and I believe "got" the gig, wound up not going on tour (broke his ankle) but told me a couple of things (in 2002) he learned from the guys in band… whispered in his ear during his brief encounter with them. They said to him and I quote "She doesn't write her own stuff but takes the credit! the guys in the band write it" "she treats her fans like sh*t unless someone (cameras?) is watching then she fakes it!" "She's a total pain in the a**!" I was pretty bummed because I really liked her first album but found it difficult after hearing that listen to her anymore. I certainly wouldn't give her anymore of my money after that. What a waste of what could be an adorable girl with a great voice!
