Michael Moore is biased…no doubts there. However, Dr. Gupta has made millions off of the insurance agencies and the private hospitals in which he works as a neurosurgeon. Whenever a guest on Larry King Live whips out an email live on air you just KNOW something big is going down (Suzanne Somers did it a few months ago, she's no dumb blonde)…When Michael Moore whipped out HIS email to Gupta's producer you just know a collective "OH SH*T" echoed through the halls of CNN. He takes one small fact (to appear truthful) and then twists it and and uses that to support his own agenda which is all lies and inflated statistics. The average Canadian pays $3000 a year in taxes towards health care - the average American pays ….$7000 ……in co-pays, deductibles blah blah. Not sure either if you've seen the price of prescriptions in the US - meds can be as much as a mortgage on a house. Some people lose thier homes.

To the rest of you especially the clowns that attack Mr Moore's weight - not everyone is to blame for their health problems - people have accidents, people develop MS, cancer, Alzheimers. etc. You don't always get this from McDonalds food.

I only got to comment #50 or so but so far haven't seen anyone - including Mr. Moore himself - address the fact that yes, France may have a $16 B deficit, but the USA has a $900 TRILLION (yes, that's 1,000 Billion times 900) deficit. Oh, did you say that you thought we had a surplus? I'm sorry, the last year we had a surplus was, hmm….1999. Coincidentaly, that was the last year that I believed my vote counted. Hey Christina, yes we do pay taxes. Everybody does, no where near as much as what you guys do though. Our healthcare is free though, weather you are rich, poor, working or unemployed, black, white, makes no difference. It's there and it is free baby. No out of pocket expences, no waiting, no preferential treatment. It's fair. In the US, if you don't have private healthcare, your history. We do not pay out the ass in taxes. I am 36, married, with 2 children, they go to private schools, we own our own home, we own 2 new cars, we work. We are lucky because we have our health and we aren't lazy. no one gave us anything though, we have managed to make a wonderful life, debt free, with everything our hearts desire. We are in a lucky country though, that's the difference. You guys are mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed shit. I feel sorry for you, it shouldn't be that way.

pk, I normally do not write comments but this time I have to. I am a 38 year old mother of two small children. My husband and I are hard working all our lives americans. I have a little boy who has bad asthma attacks and we had to pay 120.oo a month for asamex, that is with insurance. My husband just received a wonderful review and raise back in August. Well in Oct. 2006 I found a small lump in my left breast and decided to go to the docter. We have 30.00 copay with every dr. visit. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Nov. I had a 10 hour surgery double masectomy and reconstruction of Both Breast. I had found the cancer spread to 9 lymph nodes so all the lymph nodes were removed from my left arm. Stage 2b cancer. I had to have four grueling months of chemotherapy, lost all my hair and was incrediably sick. I was told I need 26 treatments of radiation. And here I am did I mention In Dec. 2006 my husband was fired. yes fired no reason given. I later learned United States of American the politians passed a little sneaky law called at will. I wonder how many of you know what that means? well it means and ask any lawyer or look it up yourself you basically have NO JOB Protection. A Company can fire you for no reason at all. Yes sir this is true. So my husband fired in the middle of my treatment. We have to pay 1200.00 a month for Cobra Insurance plus all the copays and medication cost. Now I just found out today that we are being sued for a hospital bill, yes a hospital bill. I have soooo many bills I don’t know what to do. Well I never thought in my wildest dreams that you could be sued for getting sick. This is a corputed greedy society. I am disgusted by many peoples post and the media. We are to take care of one another and there is one man who yes is putting his life indanger trying to get the truth out to the American People that is Michael Moore. We can do something about this and we have to fight back. I hope to beat this and give back to the many many americans who are willing to fight. I work in the insurance department in my state. If I earned a nickel for every phone call I received from citizens that cannot afford insurance and don't know where to go, I would be rich. It breaks my heart daily that I have no answer for them except "I'm sorry, please keep looking at other companies for lower rates". I deal with this on the front line. It is MUCH WORSE than many "privileged" (by that I mean insured) understand. Please do not lose the message with politics.

Okay, I get the point. The system is a mess. I think we all agree. I don't mind paying more in taxes to help those who are truly needy. My concern is with the individuals in this country who sit on the couch all day watching soaps. Don't tell me they don't exist. I see these people on a daily basis in my line of work. They have no reason not to work. They CHOOSE not to work. I should pay for their free healthcare benefits? I don't think so! Many of these individuals continue to have children that they can't afford to insure. My husband and I are responsible adults who have decided not to have children until we can provide for them. Why can't others do the same? For those of you that will say that I am a "rich, spoiled American", I can tell you that I was not born with a silver spoon! I worked my way through high school and college. It has taken me 9 years to get where I am today. I had no advantages over any other American. Yet, I now have a good job with insurance. Some of these individuals demanding free healthcare are looking for another "handout" because they have made poor personal choices. Don't force me to pay for their mistakes. They don't pay for mine. So, my question remains: How do we have a universal healthcare system that has a "catch" system for lazy individuals? It hasn't worked in our welfare system…

Michael Moore is exactly correct in making the point that Americans can take the money that goes into private insurance to pay the taxes for universal insurance and actually save money while having the same service. All of the uninsured would be covered. The thing you have to realize (like I've said for years and what he said) is that there is way too much PROFIT in private insurance that needs to be done away with. That is what one must account for when weighing the quality of service that would be achieved with universal insurance. For the same, if not less money, EVERYONE could have insurance. Where's the downside in that?

In other words, he needs to appear "confident," "composed," and "level headed". Ironically enough, that is why many of you have decided to side with Gupta.

May I remind you…many years ago Al Gore sighed several times in an discussion between your current President of the United States and himself. As a result, 90% of Americans discredited his "confidence" and "credibility", while Bush delivered fluent, powerful statements (those were the days!). Michael moore is an ignorant man. Ok so his second movie was interesting but just for the record, I'm from Canada and health care is NOT free. Our income taxes are higher than that of the U.S. and these higher taxes is what funds the health care system. However, more and more health care services are being privatized, meaning even though taxes are higher, Canadians still have to pay for certain health care services. A recent report published by the Frasier Institute says wait times have increased dramatically (check the report out). Also, Moore says that the U.S. system is based on profit. So is Canada's. You want efficient health care here, you still have to pay for it. In Canada, you have to pay for efficiency, just like in the U.S. So before all you Americans go out and watch this movie, do some research first. Yes your system isn't the greatest but watching a hypocrite like Moore make continuous movies about how horrible his country is, meanwhile utilizing his rights to make movies (to say whatever he wants) under your bill of rights, is ridiculous.

But in the end Michael's ethical question of non-insured people not being able to get medical treatment because of our system, is a more than the fact we may pay more for our health care in the long run. Someone should do the math and provide some fact on what costs more on the average including the tax factor. But the bottom line is… is it ok to let non-insured people to not get care? If it's up to the elitests they would say F*ck'em. And that is what is happening now…

Probably in a privat hospital, that yes, I probably wouldnt be getting my treatment in. Do I care?? Not really! I am a nurse working in a lung cancer clinic. I met a 42 year YOUNG man who could not get insurance b/c he had a preexisting condition–he was on an antidepressant. Also, he could not be covered (even in liberal northern cali)under his domestic partner (of about 10 years)'s insurance. He had some means, but could not afford the expensive chemo and he DIED an ugly death. Can you imagine at the age of 42, looking at death and wondering "what if I had insurance?"

I am Canadian and was shocked after seeing Sicko, the times that I've been sick the first thing on my mind is getting help and I just go to the hospital, I've never had to stop and think, wait what is this going to cost me how can I pay for this? I just got help. Some people have being saying that the movie shows only one side of the story and that it's bias. It may true that he picks the facts to use but if you were to make a movie on each side, the one on health being a corrupt and wrong (like Michael Moore’s) telling about the millions of people who are “covered” or uncovered and have been slapped in the face and spat on by the system and government, it would be a hell of a lot longer than the other on, which would have some stories about the few, very few people whom the system actually helped. The word “covered” means so little now, to me it seems that being “covered” is paying for insurance, and then after getting sick or injured being told that they insurance company can’t help you because of some bullshit they come up. I don’t blame the millions of people who aren’t covered, I mean they aren’t paying any money to these companies and yet they are left paying all their medical bills, JUST LIKE MANY WHO ARE COVERED, so how come many who are funding theses disgusting companies are being treated the same as many who are not paying anything. One side of my family is from the States and that’s were some of my relative still live. I know that I would be horrified if something happened to my grandparents and they were made to pay thousands of dollars for an unforeseen injury or illness because their insurance wouldn’t cover it. Watching Sicko made me feel as if the human compassion is gone from the health care system, I mean think about the part when a baby was dying in a hospital but they refused to treat her because her health care would not cover treatment from that hospital they waited and watched her as she stopped breathing and had a seizure, while they waited for her to be transferred to another hospital and she ended up dying. And how about when poor innocent people were literally dropped off at a treatment center from the hospital not knowing where they were or what was going on, the names of the hospitals scratched off their brackets and just thrown out of a cab just because they could not pay for their treatment. Think about all the people that were involved, it wasn’t like one doctor just decided to dump that person onto the street; it was a cab driver that took her there, the doctor that released her, the person that scratched the names off the brackets and who know who else, all of those people and the people who wouldn’t save the little baby’s life and the people who would tell a dying man and his family that they wouldn’t give him treatment, just to save money. These people seem unhuman to me, I couldn’t do that to anyone and I thought before watching Sicko that hardly anyone in the world would ever do that to someone, let alone doctors, and nurses and the people running healthcare. The fact that the government and the health care system would leave behind those 9/11 heroes, is infuriating it makes me want to puke! And there are more out there than shown in the movie and it hurts my heart to think that the government would lie and tell these heroes and their families that it was safe to be in ground zero and help save others. And then when the truth comes out that it wasn’t safe and all these people who just wanted to help their country and save lives were getting sick, the government told many of them too bad, you’re sick, but you didn’t work down there long enough or some bullshit. So I advise all American to see Sicko to get informed and help to change the system and people in other countries (even if you have free healthcare) because it will help you to realize how lucky you are. Lastly I can’t believe people who criticize this movie I mean Michael Moore is using facts and real people he’s not making this up, people should be out raged by the stories of these people, single mothers, grandparents, people just like you that have had horrible things happen to them, and it could happen to you, if it hasn’t already. It’s time to stop this and change the way things are done before any more people are sent into debt, left sick and on the streets, or Dead!

America has some of the worst health outcomes and highest expenses of any civilized country. Further more do you know that the Canadian dollar is only four cents behind the American Dollar.
