Just stating something like that, without bothering to make an argument to support it, does not make it true. Celebs coming out has reduced homophobia. A lot of people hate gays because they have preconceived notions about them, and when one of their favorite celebs comes out, they're forced to reevaluate those views.
Straights rarely show any sympathy to gays at all, until a famous one gets outed, and then they leap furiously to their defense. Except it's not really the gay celebs they're defending, they're defending the closet itself. They want gays to continue being 2nd class citizens who have to hide their homosexuality like it's a dirty secret, they don't want that taboo challenged. Well tough shit, Perez is challenging it, and you can't do a damn thing to stop him.
