A lot of people hate gays because they have preconceived notions about them, and when one of their favorite celebs comes out, they're forced to reevaluate those views.

Straights rarely show any sympathy to gays at all, until a famous one gets outed, and then they leap furiously to their defense. Except it's not really the gay celebs they're defending, they're defending the closet itself. They want gays to continue being 2nd class citizens who have to hide their homosexuality like it's a dirty secret, they don't want that taboo challenged. Well tough shit, Perez is challenging it, and you can't do a damn thing to stop him.

Toto in Kansas - yes, as a matter of fact I am gay - and a pagan so I'm dealing with a double whammy if you really want to know. And I know what it's like to not be able to do "normal" things in public that are taken for granted by heterosexuals like holding your lover's hand or sharing a kiss unless you're in a 'safe' place for that sort of thing.
I'm not saying that we do not need more tolerance & acceptance - we do. But I don't think that forcing someone to come out if they have a reason not to is right, celebrity or not.
When I came out, I was told by some of the guys I know that it was OK because I was "hot" - that just fed into their warped fantasies of two attractive women getting it on. She left my father when I was two to be with her female lover in New York City in the late 70s. She and her partner were discreet but people in the neighborhood still knew and they were jumped in the building's elevator one evening - raped & beaten.
