Josh Hartnett and James Franco in stand-off by Luke Blackall with Jessica Barrett. Friday, 13 July 2007 Frosty glances were exchanged last night at the Kings of Leon after party as Josh Hartnett (pictured above with Michael Stipe at the concert) and James Franco arrived at the star-studded bash.

The American actors were unfortunate enough to arrive for the exclusive party at fashionable Volstead at the same time, and it soon became clear that all was not well between Hartnett and Spider-Man star Franco.

Both are battling it out for the lead role in a film of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road and were distinctly unimpressed to run into their rival at the bash. “Josh walked in first with Liv Tyler, and then James got out of his car and strolled in,” a bystander tells theBuzz. “They crossed paths by the cloakroom and barely acknowledged each other.”
There was no time for churlish behaviour once they were inside, however, as the party reached fever pitch with star after star cramming into the VIP area. Josh and Liv led the party with the Kings of Leon, who had just played at the Hammersmith Apollo.

Hartnett is a Kings of Leon groupie, having followed the band from their Oxygen performance in Ireland last weekend. Natalie Imbruglia, model Agyness Dean, Jack Osbourne and party boy Calum Best all squashed into the roped-off area to enjoy the flowing champagne and cocktails.

Meanwhile, Miquita Oliver held court on the other side of the plush VIP area with a group of friends.

We have truly lost one of the greats today.

Whitney Houston has passed away at the age of 48, and although the cause of her death is currently unknown, she made an appearance last night at the Kelly Price & Friends Unplugged: For The Love of R&B Grammy Party at True Hollywood, and even took the stage to sing what sadly, ended up being her last public performance.
