This new artist grew up in Roberta, Georgia. The first time she sang in public was at an all black Southern Baptist church when she was 8. She got her start in the business as a waitress at Los Angeles' legendary music venue the Hotel Cafe, and her sound is a beautiful combination of pop, alternative and folk.
We just can't get enough of her! And we're pretty confident you will love her just as much too!

i saw her live at the living room in new york. she had a great voice - but i left that night with an album she sang back up on with a girl named SALLY JAYE, who sang lead. now that was a great album and in my opinion had much better songs. really well written. …SALLY JAYE - AMARILLO.
If anyone actually believes perez goes on myspace or whatever searching for talent must be high on some shit man! It's all about who u know man! She's probably signed or has management that has tipped perez off and they're trying to make it look like some "undiscovered talent" that perez has found! Same thing with "lily allen"..she had a record deal, producers/songwriters before putting those songs on myspace. So all that story about "oh i just put a few songs on myspace and the thing blew up" is crap! They're trying to do the same thing with that "kate nash" now too…she even dresses and looks like "lily allen"! I grew up with this girl in Roberta, GA and she is a wonderful person inside and out. She is a very talented artist, who WILL be the next big thing. Show some support for a young girl who picked up and moved to LA right out of high school and is following her dream. At least she's not fucking up like Lindsay or Britney!

For the person who asked about her heritage, yes, she is part Japanese. Her mother is Japanese. I grew up with Meiko's sister (Kelly Nishimoto) in Roberta, GA and Meiko is awesome!!!

Meiko is SOOOOO awesome, we stumbled upon her playing halftime for Butch Walker at the Hotel Cafe and now my friends and I try to make all her gigs.
She is a cute little thing with a shiny personality and says the funniest shit between songs. We always comment on how fun to be friends with she would be.
She is totally unsigned - and any other night of the week, she will be your waitress there at the Hotel Cafe. Totally unpretentious, she wears a sundress and flip flops and no make-up most of the time. Her newest song, about seeing her ex boyfriend with his new pregnant girlfriend really hit the spot for me at the last show! She doesn't look or act anything like any of these hwood idiots you all comment about. Go see for yourself on the 26th!
The Hotel Cafe is LA is a great place to go for live music, check out Quincy Coleman and also Blue Meridian too!
