The Kiss frontman, 55, wrote the following message on his website Saturday about a very serious health care her suffered the day before:
During sound check yesterday, my heart spontaneously jumped to 190 plus beats per minute where it stayed for over an hour necessitating paramedics to start an IV and give me a shot to momentarily stop my heart and get it into a normal pattern. Not knowing if this episode was life threatening made it even more exhausting. After consulting with both the paramedics and a cardiologist at Cedar Sinai, they confirmed my worst fear. They said that I would put myself at risk if I tried to do the show.
I’m very proud of Gene, Tommy and Eric for carrying on without me. I apologize to anyone I disappointed and I’ll make it up to you when I see you again.

Sounds like SVT (Supra Ventricular Tacachardia), I had episodes like this and it is not life threatening. An outpatient surgery corrects it, and the worst thing that can happen to someone with it is dizzyness and passing out.
FYI - Gene and Paul have NEVER done drugs and have always been very vocal about it.

Hmm. Sounds like SVT's. They can be scary. It hurts up into the throat and jaw. Maybe not life- threatening, but if it is something new to him they can be scary and probably unable to perform through. If he keeps getting them he can get a cardiac ablation and all will return to normal.

Ummm…Kiss guys were all very anti drug. That's why they were so successful and still have all thier money and health. These guys are very professional I'm sure it's one of the only time any of them cancelled out.

Paul is not the Kiss frontman, Gene Simmon's is. But doesn't really matter anyways b/c Kiss has terrible musicianship and sucks.

I was at that concert. We missed Paul but they still F**kin' rocked! They are the only band that seemed genuinely thankful for their fans. Easily one of the best concerts that I have ever been to.

for those who THINK they know it all. Paul is, and has always been the frontman. I've met KISS many times, been a fan since small NY clubs. Paul used to do coke occassionally, back in the day. The 2 former members got axed from KISS due to their drug addictions (Peter Criss and Ace Frehley). Gene has never done drugs, and rarely drinks.

My son worked that concert (security) and I'm so glad that Kiss decided to go on with the show without Paul. The security team was prepared for mayhem if the show did not go on!!

Some years ago I had the pleasure of dining with Paul a group of his friends & his girl and he was such a gent! I hope he gets a handle on what sounds like artial fribrillation..sounds like he got some drugs in his future. Haha

What he had is SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) and he was given adenosine. I know this because I've had it - not life-threatening. I did have the ablation to have it "repaired". The IV and the heart-stopping thing isn't as dramatic as he is making it sound - or would want you to believe.
Part of his problem is that his pants are too tight!
