Doubt this arrest will make her realize she is getting out of control. For one thing, she probably won't see much time in jail. Any decent lawyer will be able to get off om most charges. I think her comment was taken out of context. Yes, she's a horrible mother, but I think she meant that a little failure is good in order to learn a lesson. Every parent teaches their child that you have to fail a few times in order to succeed. If they had been better parents, maybe Lindsay wouldn't have resorted to drugs in the first place. They are the the ones that set her up for failure, for sure, but at least they are finally realizing it. In the scheme of things, this is not Lindsay's fault. Well, she's right in a sense. Failing can be a good thing, it builds character. But in the limelight, for a 21 year old girl (sorry girls, but it is harder on you than the men) is a tough thing.

Hire a douchebag photographer around to capture all your fuckups, especially at age 21, then see what happens. Lindsey used to be such a cute girl ala Mean Girls, then she got all Hollywood and dyed her hair like all the other young girls. That town is hard on young girls. It seems that the limelight is much harder on girls that are addicted to drugs and alcohol. For men it's almost permissible, then to fight back from it is manly. Experiencing failure at some point in life is critical if we are ever to identify that we've succeeded somewhere else along the line. Unless we've experienced the negativity of failure at some point in our lives, we can never fully appreciate the glory of our successes. If one has never groped blindly in the dark, one can never appreciate the wondrousness of light.

Lindsay, the poor soul, has never had to grope in the dark: before her eyes ever had a chance to adjust to the dark, somebody lit a candle. And because someone saved her from tripping over that shoe she'd left laying in the middle of the floor, she never fell down… never felt pain… and never learned that she needed to pick up after herself.

Addiction is a horrible, insidious thing. To continue to put someone down over something they can't control is just wrong. Period.

It's human nature to protect our kids. When Lindsay was born, did Dina have a clue how successful her daughter would someday be? Did she look into a crystal ball and plot and scheme ways to make her baby suffer not only from addiction, but from the from the pain she would inevitably experience when her downfall was played out before million on the cover of every Rag Mag and internet blog on the planet? My gut tells me she didn't.

Dina's not going to win "Mom of the Year", and that's a fact. If she truly has partied with Lindsay in the past and been the "enabler" she's been described as, I can't even imagine the guilt she must feel now.

But I think Ding Dong Dina may have hit it right on the noggin with this one — and if she'd given her daughter the opportunity to experience that feeling of "Oops! I'm not perfect after all!", Lindsay might have had a chance to be a genuine role model to the young women of today.

It's not too late. For Dina OR Lindsay.

I have a teenage daughter for whom I would never wish failure. My life is dedicated to supporting her and her success in life.
