I am apalled by the complete lack of respect shown in these comments. Regardless of whether we knew who this man was or not, he has passed and his family is in mourning. @Charlotte whay was he an asshole because he was private and secluded, boring did u ever meet him? his films were slow but poignant, they analyzed what it means to be human and to feel.

The fact remains that a lot of the American public knows nothing about serious intelligent filmaking is just a plain shame. Ingmar Bergman will remain the thinking man's all time great when it comes to film. Mr. Bergman thanks for the legacy you left behind, you will be always remembered through your outstanding films.
One of the greatest directors of the 20th century. I suggest renting any of his films - they were all brilliant and interesting - they were pretty psychologically intense and had a very stagey (not staged) quality to them.

We have lost a great legend, a world legend. And for you who don´t know who he was, shame on you! He was teh greatest of the greatest! The U.S is not the center of the world… He was greater than any american film director ever… He is not comparable with any of the american film directors living today.

I heard about this on the radio when I woke up this morning and it felt like the end of an era. When great people die you get that feeling. The greatest Scandinavian film maker of all times and one of the greatest in the world.
