Absolutely horrible. I live a quarter mile from this bridge and I thank God that I wasn't on it. It happened in less then 10 seconds and I can only imagine the sheer horror those people felt.

    24

It's just such a disaster. It happened at the worst possible time at the worst possible place. I live about 45 minutes from the cities. I'm familiar with that bridge, and I know two friends of mine use that bridge every day. One of them had crossed it just an hour or so before. It's always terrifying to think of smoething like that happening close to you. And it's starting to make me really paranoid of bridges.

  25. SS says – reply to this

    25

Just awful. I can't imagine how it must've felt being on that bridge, or being a friend or relative of a victim.

    28

This is horrible and my prayers are going out to each and every person, family member and friend of any one of the victims. This is unbelieveable. I live in PA and you can't get to Jersey without crossing a bridge. This is terribly tragic.

  29. MissMottin says – reply to this

    29

    Dear God.

Was that an accident? It looks so 'controlled.'

  30. Brit says – reply to this

    30

I live in Mpls and this is so scary/sad. If you aren't from here it's hard to realize how tragic this really is. There are only a couple freeways that bring you into the city - this being one of the main ones. We are blessed that the road was already under construction so it wasn't as many cars as usual.
This is a very sad day here and all the blessings from around the country really help!

  31. KikiTopaz says – reply to this

    31

I live in Minneapolis and was on 35w just before the bridge went down. All of a sudden, police cars were everywhere, redirecting traffic. At first I thought it was a multiple car accident until I turned on the radio. I think we are still in shock. Please keep our victims and their families in your prayers.

  32. Meg says – reply to this

    32

To answer the several questions about it: 4 are confirmed dead, 79 have been hospitalized, and 30 or so are still missing. They don't expect any other survivors :(

  33. stephen says – reply to this

    33

24 soldiers died in iraq yesterday also.

out of sight, out of mind i guess.

  34. Michelle C says – reply to this

    34

I grew up in Minneapolis and still go back often. I traveled this bridge almost daily in high school and it is such a surreal feeling to watch all of this unfolding. The feeling of being helpless is overwelming. I wish there is more that can be done for the families of the injured and dead and especially for the families of the missing. My prayers and thoughts are with each one of you. God bless.

  35. jen says – reply to this

    35

living 8 blocks from this bridge, driving it multiple times a day, and being down at the site this morning, i can tell that life here is surreal. last night had an eerie quietness to it aside ffrom the sirens. im still in shock and can't even fathom what it was like for those on the bridge.

  36. fivefive says – reply to this

    36

I live in mn..this event was so tragic and has upset everyone. they are trying to do recovery today on the cars that fell into the river. Some buried under the ruble of the bridge. As of right now they confirm 4 dead and 79 injured. But the rescue workers have confirmed they saw many bodies..but they dont account for them until they are recovered.

  37. ae says – reply to this

    37

my thoughts and prayers are with everyone there, god bless

  38. Shawna says – reply to this

    38

I live in Mpls, and I work a little over a mile from the bridge and I use to cross it every day when I went to school at the Univerity of Minnesota. I had two friend that were nine cars behind the bridge when it collapsed, it was a miracle they survived!

Right now there are 4 confirmed dead, 80 people were take to the hospital with injuries, 50 cars were counted, more cars are trapped under the concrete in the water, and there are about 30 people who are missing. We are in a great deal of shock right now. No one can really wrap their head around this horrific accident.

  39. Laurie says – reply to this

    39

I live in Minneapiolis, and near (one block away) the 35W Bridge. Please pray for the city of Minneapolis, the victims as well as their families. I've just come back from the site, and I have to tell you, it looks like a war zone. I've never seen anything like this, and hope I never have to again.
This is my favorite website, and know how many people come here everyday, so I ask all of your prayers.

  43. Brianna says – reply to this

    43

I think that's it's even more depressing that some families may not even know that their loved ones were on that bridge.

  44. Mooshki says – reply to this

    44

Perez, I have always loved you, no matter what the haters said, and now my love is sealed in stone. Thank you for caring.

  45. What are we becoming? says – reply to this

    45

On top of being a slaughter happy society, are we so gruesome that we have a desire to see such a catastrophe?

  46. dots says – reply to this

    46

I am from St. Paul, MN and my fiance was on that bridge five minutes before it collapsed. We are still in shock… as I'm sure most Minnesotans are. This isn't supposed to happen here… we don't have hurricanes or earthquakes… but it did. I am so sorry for the families and loved ones of ALL those involved… the news hasn't even begun to show the real tragedy. Please keep MN in your thoughts and prayers.

  47. sarahhhhh says – reply to this

    47

I am from Minneapolis and drive on the bridge everyday. This is affecting everyone in the twin cities area on a very large scale, whether directly or indirectly, and we all appreciate everyone's thoughts and concerns.

  48. Bella says – reply to this

    48

As one who lives in Mpls, it is sheer luck that more people have not been hurt, injured or killed, myself included. I absolutely MUST thank and acknowledge every single person who pitched in during the first moments after the collapse. People (who dropped with the bridge, mind you) were climbing out of their wrecked cars and trying to help those around them as well. I still tear up when I think of the teamwork of everyday people yesterday- especially in evacuating and rescuing those 59 children stuck on the school bus. Minneaplis is somber, but grateful, today.

  49. NURI says – reply to this

    49

    that's freaky…god bless them all

  50. PY says – reply to this

    50

    Yeah, well…

They don't show american soldiers' caskets coming back from Iraq… That bridge thing is sad, ok, but remember New Orleans ? When Bush waited more than 5 days to show his sad face there ?

Black people who were living there in trailers parks for the luckiest ones are now homeless. Do you give a shit about that ? And stop talking about prayers and God everytime something happens. Maybe God is punishing the guilty ?

Sometimes, you get the catastrophes you spread worldwide.

  51. Sydney says – reply to this

    51

I didn't watch it. I thought it would be in poor taste. And Mariane Pearl didn't watch her husband Daniel get beheaded either– althought the video was widely avilable on the net.

  52. kayyyyyyy says – reply to this

    52

I'm so so thankful I wasn't driving on that bridge when it collapsed. I take that route nearly every day. Thank GOD I didn't work yesterday.

  53. eas says – reply to this

    53

we live in Iowa and our thoughts and prayers are with you, no one familiar with the I-35 bridge can wrap their heads around this one….sadness.

  54. Michelle says – reply to this

    54

UMMM PY what the fuck is your problem? Every disaster that has ever happened is a terrible thing and we should not focus on how one was worse than the other, all we can really do is pray for the victims and their families. It does not matter if 5 people die or 5,000 it is still a terrible thing to happen.

  55. Alex says – reply to this

    55

How dare you say that this looked planned or controlled, MissMontin. This was a very real and tragic event. I was babysitting for a family that had their mom go over the bridge 2 minutes before it collapsed. Please pray for Minneapolis and the victims in this event.

  56. Meg says – reply to this

    56

I cried when I read your comment PY that "maybe God is punishing the guilty". Most agree that the way Katrina was handled was terrible, but please don't say that about the Minnesotans. It was completely unneccesary. I, too, am from St. Paul, and it hurts to hear someone say that about those innocent people.

Thank you, everyone else, for your support. We need it.

  57. Heather says – reply to this

    57

    I won't watch it.
I find it in poor taste.

I do however pray for the families involved.

And I do pray for those in Iraq. Not just the soldiers who chose to fight…but for the Iraqi children and their families who suffer through this war.
However, that is not the only tragedy in the world today and we need to send positive thoughts for our fellow Americans who have suffered due to this bridge collapse.

Thanks to the posters in the MN area who are letting us know how you are doing!
    Take care!!!!!!

  58. Johanna says – reply to this

    58

Thanks for all of your support Perez… we appreciate it here in MN! Its been a very, very sad day for us here…. I work in Downtown, Minneapolis… and it seems like a ghost-town today… its surreal and you can see the sadness in everyone's eyes. My co-worker was on the bridge.. on his daily commute home. Little did he know he escaped death by a mere 5 feet… something that truly should open everyone's eyes….

"Minnesota nice"…This couldn't have happened to a more amazing city… So please…. everyone… please pray for the people and families of this tragedy…

  59. Meg says – reply to this

    59

I cried when I read your comment PY that "maybe God is punishing the guilty". Most agree (or should agree) that the way Katrina was handled was terrible, but please don't say that about the Minnesotans. It was completely unneccesary. I, too, am from St. Paul, and it hurts to hear someone say that about those innocent people.

Thank you, everyone else, for your support. We need it.

    60

We are still trying to comprehend what has happened here in MPLS. It feels as if our city is broken. I send out my thoughts and best wishes to eveyone affected and thank everyone for their kindness. I LOVE MPLS and Perez.

  61. mjcp says – reply to this

    61

I hope they're right when they say this wasn't terrorism. How are there only 7 people dead?

  62. Brit says – reply to this

    62

PY: I understand the frustration that the news does not show or report as much as it should at times… It is very sad. At the same time, try not a take away from what has happened in Mpls. This is not a competition to see who can have the largest death toll! As far as the god comments - let people have their faith. Let people use what they need to get through a hard situation. I don't know what got you through hard times but I'm sure you wouldn't want people judging you.

Summary: Keep your comments to yourself if they are not kind hearted!

  63. Sarah says – reply to this

    63

I'm in dt minneapolis right now, and it sounds like a war zone. This situation is so sad.

  64. atn says – reply to this

    64

good-god, my heart goes out to those families. so surreal&tragic. interesting, only 50+ comments, and yet posts about britney, brad/angelina, tom/kat, lilo always have over 300 posts.yes i know this is a celeb gossip site, but it is definitely a sad reflection of the society and times we live in.

  65. Uta says – reply to this

    65

This bridge was inspected not long ago and judged as a risk.
American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) has been alarmed about the bad state.
If you Americans would spend less money in war, you'd have some budget to maintain and repair bridges.
I find this news less shocking than what you get to hear about devil Bush.

  66. Marguerite says – reply to this

    66

A horrible thing to happen to my community, thank you for your prayers!

  67. mama says – reply to this

    67

It was very nice of you to post your concerns, Perez. I have a bit of a different opinion of you now. :) Everyone making this political or comparing this tragedy to others, please shut up.

  68. Kat says – reply to this

    68

my parents take that bridge to work…since when do bridges just collapse. heh

  69. carter says – reply to this

    69

the world is coming to an end!!!!

  70. amy says – reply to this

    70

right…because disasters like this don't happen in other countries. ever. we're the only ones. obviously, god hates us. things like typhoons, tsunamis, disease, institutionalized murder, ferry sinkings, and mudslides don't wipe out people of all cultures and all religions, every day.

this is really horrific and nightmarish. all those poor people - it seems like the worst part of it is how people don't know where their relatives are, or whether they were on the bridge at that time…the waiting is awful.

  71. PY says – reply to this

    71

Brit : In America, thank God, we do have something called Freedom of Speech. Unfortunately, we also have something else called politically correct. I chose the first option. And I do feel sad for those who lost their lives and those who got injured. And I do believe in God.

  72. Heather says – reply to this

    72

If you Americans would spend less money in war, you’d have some budget to maintain and repair bridges.
    __________________________

You are seriously a piece of shit.

Do you laugh at funerals as well?

We Americans LOVE when those of other nations make themselves look like asses.
    Congratulations.

Don't forget that the U.S. helps more nations and their people through situations like this than any other country in the world.

  73. Rachael says – reply to this

    73

Only 4 fatalities so far, but over 50 injuries and over 30 people reported missing. As a U of M student, and someone who lives less then a mile from this bridge and drove it twice a day I am grateful to be here now. My thoughts are with all the commuters who weren't as lucky as myself. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Minnesota STAY STRONG!

  74. Lila says – reply to this

    74

It's disgusting that you would post a video of it actually happening. That's like posting video of the people jumping from the twin towers. Have some class.

  75. krista says – reply to this

    75

thats a horriable thing i pray for the families whose loves ones are still missing.

  76. Angie says – reply to this

    76

I am already scared of bridges. My roommates wonder why. This is such a disaster! My heart goes out to everyone in Minneapolis that is dealing with this right now!

  77. bettyp200 says – reply to this

    77

Those in Minnesota , North Dakota Don't let this make you feel helpless sitting at home wondering what you can do to help, Go Donate Blood! Every little bit helps!

  78. Uta says – reply to this

    78

Why would I laugh at funerals, Heather?
I guess you have no clue what's going on in your country and in your goverment. Can't even blame you (as you are most likely very young).
Wake up, read up, and then you might understand a bit better. www.infowars.com

  79. RDB says – reply to this

    79

Ok watching this video made me realize a weird coincidence..yesterday way 8/1=8+1=9 and they mention the bridge collapsed at 6:05=6+5=11…9/11…Weird..probably means nothing, but still WEIRD.

  80. Angela says – reply to this

    80

I live in Minneapolis, and several people I know were within 1000 feet of the bridge when it collapsed… and unfortunately not everybody has still been accounted for… It's quite surreal, to have something so tragic happen so close to home.

  81. hana says – reply to this

    81

I think you need some medication Heather. No one should use this or any other tragedy to say stupid sh*t about America, war, katrina, etc. Human loss is tragic no matter what the event.

  82. PY you're an idiot says – reply to this

    82

You'd better hope there is no such thing as Karma. I'm sure you wouldn't be making that comment if one of your loved ones was killed on that bridge. And as for your comment…about the guilty being punished….you're a jackass. Seriously, just shut the fuck up!

  83. Blake says – reply to this

    83

I live in Mpls and I'm not sure if anyone else will say this but thank you for your continued support and prayers. We ALL need them. Keep the support coming. The total tally as reported by CNN today at 11:45am is 4 confirmed deaths. And 20-30 still missing. At this point it is a recovery mission ONLY. There is little hope that people still submerged will be alive. Again thanks for your prayers and thoughts! -Minnesota and it's friends!

  84. Chloe says – reply to this

    84

I could see it from my appartment window =[
    It was really scary.

  85. kyle olson says – reply to this

    85

7 dead so far. I live 1 mile away. My boyfriend was on te bridge 1/2 an hour before it collapsed.

  86. ProudMinnesotan says – reply to this

    86

I've probably driven across this bridge 5000 times in my life, usually twice a day, and my apartment is about two blocks from it. It's shaken everyone up; it's an unthinkable tragedy. I think one of the reasons everyone is so fascinated with this is that, who, at some point or another, hasn't thought, "Boy it would suck if this bridge fell" as you're driving over one… but bridges aren't SUPPOSED to fall. And then, this happens…

  87. Mariah says – reply to this

    87

I live about 2 hours away from Mpls. I've been on that bridge so many times traveling to Twins games etc. This is absolutely horrific. My prayers are with all of those affected by this tragedy. Stay strong Twin Cities!!

  88. Krissy says – reply to this

    88

WOW!! This is horrible! Lets keep everyone in our thoughts and prayers…

  89. Sarah says – reply to this

    89

Are some of you people for real???? because some of your comments are ridiculous, seriously!

  90. Uta Get of your soapbox says – reply to this

    90

I'm (by far) not a teeny bopper. So my comments should have merit, right?
Just stick to the tragedy at hand and send out your good thoughts and/or prayers to all those involved. I can't think of many people who would sit at home watching tragedies like this unfold anywhere in the world and use it to comment on government and politics. Just shut up.

  91. nicka says – reply to this

    91

This so sad. Perez take this video off! There are probably people who have missing family members in the river. Please this video is horrible have some respect!

Hana…..I was quoting someone else's statement and responding by sticking up for the U.S.

Uta….I have a Masters in political science and am not young.
Take your political agenda elsewhere. Our country is in mourning.

  95. AK07 says – reply to this

    95

I thank god that the bus full of 8-12 year old kids got out okay

  96. Christina says – reply to this

    96

I too live in Minneapolis and i can not express how surreal this is. I know we are all thinking how many time we have crossed that bridge i mean its like the main bridge to get down town… I pray for those who were involved and hope by some grace of god there are still more survivors. this was a tragic thing that happened yesterday and i think us minnesotans will be stunned for quite some time…

  97. kelly says – reply to this

    97

UTA, you can go to hell… people died on that bridge yesterday..go crawl back in whatever liberal hole you came out of and shut the fuck up. and find a little respect while you are at it.

regardless of this ignorant idiot, my prayers are with the family and victims of this tragedy.

Perez, I was pissed off at you for the recent Bono gossip items but you have redeemed yourself by acknowledging this major news event that has touched so many of your readers. This item has given us a chance to discuss this and show thousands of people that we care. Thank you.
