“Her erratic behavior has moved into bipolar disorder,” surmises psychologist Dr. Robert Butterworth, who has not treated Spears, 25.
“Your energy level and emotions alternate between highs and lows, and that seems to have happened here.”
Psychologist Robi Ludwig, who also hasn’t treated her, agrees – to a point.
“It seems that Britney has a mood disorder,” she says, acknowledging that the singer’s behavior is “self-destructive, erratic and dramatic,” which could also be symptomatic of drug and alcohol abuse.
She added: "She strikes me as someone going through a delayed adolescence."

Britney shows many signs and symptoms of someone with BiPolar disorder. Every time I turn on the TV or read a magazine that is the first thing I think of. She needs some mood stabilizers ASAP for the benefit of her children, family, and herself…and she needs to stay the hell away from cameras and think about what she is doing to her life! (and her children's lives)

hasn't anyone considered postnatal depression with a mild psychosis? She has had two children close together and for her age has been under considerable stress. My god - she's only 25 and look what she has thrown at her? I've only heard some of the horrible press about her and at 35 I don't think I could deal with it. She is also surrounded by a 'camp' of people all advising her what is best. The poor girl most likely doesn't kow which way is up. I've seen comments such as ' take the babies away' what about get her some help? If those people went and put the same energy into junkies and losers who ignore, beat and mistreat their children the USA would be a better place to live.
I'll bet she does have some sort of a bipolar diagnosis. She's up and down and acting erratic far too often for this not to be the case. Not only that, but she could be using drugs and alcohol as a way of attempting to self medicate an underlying metal illness.

I knew a lady who died from a crystal methane overdose and she suffered from bipolar disorder. I think she did the crystal meth when she was feeling more ‘manic’ though.

The difference is, most people haven't had the world handed to them on a silver platter only to act completely ungrateful. I have no sympathy for her. Yes Britneys been a wee bit erratic lately but to be fair, step aside and look what she's dealing with (or not) Just a few years ago she was top of all the charts, All the girl wanted was to settle down and have a nice happy family. More than likely, she does have it. But bipolar disorder symptoms are mimicked by other diseases…thyroid problems, blood sugar problems, hormonal disorders, and YES…drug and alcohol disorders. That's why BP is so hard to pinpoint. It can go on for years without detection, and no two cases are the same.
I get tired of people speculating what mental illness is/is not when they haven't traveled down that road. Many people have a mental illness and are afraid to even say what's wrong because of responses like those found on this board. I know I'll get flamed for this comment but hey - that's life. Drug addicts do display the same behaviors as those who are bipolar. So it probably is the drugs and not manic/depression. She did not act like that in her early career, before she began all the partying.
