Listen To This: Every Once In A While

emmy.jpg

We're always a bit worried when an actor attempts to "transition" into the music world, but Emmy Rossum is the real deal!

She has released an EP on iTunes - a precursor to a full length album in the fall - and it's good. The songs are really good!

Rossum began her career in opera and learned to play piano before she was five. She also wrote every single song she recorded, and in many ways she has more cred than Avril Lavigne.

Emmy's sound is angelic, which is right up our alley. But it's not too pretty. The songs are meaningful, especially Slow Me Down, which we've been listening to non-stop since we bought the EP on iTunes.

If you like Imogen Heap, then you will love this. It's totally a similar vibe to the Brit's exquisite song Hide & Seek.

Enjoy Rossum's Slow Me Down below, then CLICK HERE to listen to more songs from Emmy!

Sounds like she's on the right path to being just like Avril. Ripping off others isn't talent.

I personally like the sound. It also reminds of a lesser known artist, but nonetheless talented - Vienna Teng. Her songs are also quite addictive.

Perez that is terrible. I usually agree with your taste in music but really? That song just plain super sucked. Reminds me more of Enya than Imogen Heap. Bleeeaaahhhh!

liked the song, but completely rips off imogen so kinda makes it worthless

It sounds like she's trying to BE Imogen Heap rather than be influenced by her. I love Imogen, and this doesn't even compare. She has a nice voice, though.

      218

Yeah, except imogen heap's lyrics are actually intelligent. Also, this sounds like Emmy Rossum went too far with her older brother's casio.

Imogen Heap's "Hide And Seek" is extraordinary, a stunningly beautiful song. Immi's depth of expression in her vocal delivery of an equally amazing lyric makes "Hide And Seek" one for the ages. It renders Emmy's "Slow Me Down" as simply ordinary. All comparisons should end there.
I went to Emmy's My Space site to listen to the other songs. Again, there was nothing in the strength of her songs, delivery, production, arrangements, that even remotely begs a comparison to the brilliant Imogen Heap. Nothing.

Perez, you said in your preamble "If you Like Imogen Heap, you will Love this."

Nice try, Emmy can't hold a "Candlelight" to Immi.

it's so processed!!!!! but i think she's nice so i hope she does well. but if she comes out with a video of her wearing angel wings and floating on a cloud, i am laughing at her.

sounds like she listened to hide and seek and then wrote this song- except this is a very very very very CHEESY and BORING copy of the amazing and talented Imogen Heap's song. I am sure emmy is great- loved her in phantom but come on! pretty sure if you have ears you should know crap when you hear it!

Definately inspired by Imogean Heap but not a "rip off" as some are saying. I can hear other influences rangining from Enya to Annie Lennox to Madonna. I enjoyed her singing in The Phantom of the Opera and Songcatcher and it's nice to hear her go with a different style.

What a complete no-talent. What's up with all the layered voices… there's nothing pure about it. It's so computerized and layered it makes me sick. FYI, she never began her career in Opera. You don't even start Opera until you're in your 30's. She started in classical music, and it didn't even last long. She has no originality to her songs and just seems to be a carbon copy.

She doesn't deserve the credit she receives for this stuff.

    39. Shannon says – reply to this

      239

Are you fucking CRAZY? This is such bullshit! Emmy Rossum couldn't produce a good album no matter how much head she gives to her higher-ups. All of the songs sound the same, and her lyrics are so bad!

    40. Shannon says – reply to this

      240

Oh yeah, and she never learned how to sing opera. Take it from someone who's being classically trained right now - Emmy has NEVER known how to sing it! And she can't play the piano. Otherwise she would've fucking moved her arms in Nola instead of just sitting there.

This chick is a complete bitch. my friends company wanted her to do a benefit. Supposedly she was really hard up for some good pr so her pr people thought it would be great for her. But the deal fell through because she was so horrible to work with. Guess she does need some good pr.

    44. This is ridiculous says – reply to this

      244

Hide and Seek is musical genius, and Imogen wrote all the melodies, lyrics, and played the vocoder herself in her flat. This sounds like they just tried to copy the lyrical style and music from hide and seek and hoped noone would notice. Bad move.

    45. Natalie says – reply to this

      245

Perez, I'm seriously so disappointed in you!!!

This girl's head is so far up her own ass she could be looking out her OWN throat, not to mention she's overrated as HELL. And what the fuck is up with the ~career in opera~? Her *CAREER* was being in the CHILDREN'S CHORUS at the fucking Met with 80 other kids for a few years. When she was too old, did they ask her to stay on with the regular choir??? NO, BECAUSE SHE'S NOT TALENTED.

I'm not the most amazing singer, but I've also only had a semester of a class at college. This stupid cow goes and prattles on about her training at the Met, when let's face it, singing songs in languages you don't know with 80 other kids isn't exactly training.

Playing piano by five? Please, anyone who gives a shit about teaching their kids an instrument knows to start them at 4. Watch that stupid fucking documentary that comes with the iTunes EP–she's prattling on about how she was destined for musical greatness because she sat in front of a piano banging on it over and over again. Anytime you put a kid in a room with a piano, give them 5 minutes and they'll start banging on it.

I won't really touch her on ~fabulous~ Phantom of the Opera, or as I like to call it, Shitty Bitch of the Opera, performance, but check out youtube, and search for "Emmy Rossum Screen Test", and see just how fabulous she is unretouched.

If she would drop the holier than thou attitude (she did NOT carry Phantom, despite what she says), and accept the fact that she is NOT a lyric coloratura (Soprano) and stick to being an alto, she might have a shot.

If you can stand 17 minutes and 50 seconds of blank, empty stares, watch the documentary. She smiles with her eyes all of like, 6 seconds?

She's a hideous person, and I hope to never, ever have the displeasure of encountering her or her ego.

Ok, this song is almost too much like "Hide and Seek." But, I will say, EVEN being a die hard Imogen fan, I liked it. I love Emmy. But no one should rip off the wonder that is Imogen Heap.

      247

Okay. Must comment. It BROKE MY HEART when they casted this chick as Christine in Phantom of the Opera. I almost cried. Of course, I happen to be obsessed with Sarah Brightman's Christine, and Michael Crawford is the ONLY phantom. I mean, Andrew Lloyd Webber was MARRIED to Sarah Brightman when he wrote phantom. He obviously had only one culoratura in mind.

      But…..long story short…. I like this song.

This woman has been a performer since she was in nursery school. I don't think her success was overnight at all - - she worked long and hard, and she deserves what she's gotten. This particular track is a little too enya for my tastes, but that's a career for ya. You do a lot of stuff, put it out there and different folks like different things. She's got the goods for sure. Good luck Emmy!!! I look forward to watching your career unfold!!!!!
