Wow…it's amazing how intelligent people sound when they make sweeping generalizations.

Yes, I'm American. Yes, I live in Minneapolis. YES, I know that countries can be spelled differently depending on what language you are speaking (what, you mean to tell me that there are cultured people that live in the US?!?! My narrow little world has come crumbling down!!). YES, I have lived in cultures outside of the US and I know first-hand that there are horrible people and good people everywhere, regardless of their nationality.

I was living in France on September 11, 2001, and that day, along with thousands of others I spent abroad, has given me the knowledge that the US (and its inhabitants) are not universally loathed. It takes a pretty self-absorbed person to think that they can speak for every human being on this planet.

I live in the suburbs 20 mins south of Minneapolis and when I heard that the 35W bridge had collapsed I thought it was joke! I seriously could not get my head around it. I'm still in shock, and I'm really glad I decided to not go to the Twins game last night, and I'm praying my friend decided to not go as well, I haven't been able to get in contact with her yet. I can't believe how many times I have driven over that bridge, or any of the larger bridges over the Mississippi in the cities, and to think it that something could happen like this. It's horrifying. My prayers are with the poor souls who were trapped on that bridge last night and their familes.

I am a University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) student who travels on I-35 all of the time and it's unbelievable to think it could collapse like that. I am still in shock. Thank you Perez for your thoughts and prayers, as well as everyone else's. It's a small world and you never know who was affected by this tragedy…

I am proud that I live in Minnesota and that I live in the United States. There are so many people who care so much! I love you guys and I love that we are taught in our country to not "hate" someone just because of where they were born. Love you MN!!!

      #281…
I am in the Twin Cities area and there is NOTHING else most people can do other than donating blood and money. Officials have asked people to stay away from the bridge area so they can start the recovery process. What do you expect people to do?? Honestly…

Thank you Perez. I've been a reader of this site for 2 years solid now and cross that bridge on a daily basis. I was lucky enough to have everyone I know safe and sound. Some of my friends had JUST crossed it 5 mins before it happened- DON'T TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED. Thank you all for your prayers and support.

People…PLEASE STOP MAKING THIS POLITICAL! Seriously, this was a horrific event. People have died, people are injured and missing… This is no time to be tossing around political arguments. Please use your energy to support and pray from those affected. At this point in time, that is needed most.

Thanks for acknowledging this tragedy. It's important that significant news stories - such as this one - at the very least be mentioned. I hate it when everyone (i.e - other bloggers/goss sites) carry on as if devestation such as this does not even happen. Goss is fine and dandy but there are always more important things we should at least be aware of.

      Love you Pretzel xoxo

awwww, you are so sweet, Perez (it's shocking, actually!) and everone else here posting well wishes. I live and work just a few blocks from the bridge in downtown Minneapolis and it's just like watching a movie. it's just amazing how everyone is pulling together to help…people are donating money, blood, time, resources, anything you could imagine. thank you for tearing yourself away from the Hollywood trash for just a minute to focus on something truly important. MN loves you!!!

You're right. I apologize. I guess I'm just feeling upset with myself for spending time on this website in the face of such a disaster. I've already spent an incredible amount of time on your local websites as I'm originally from Mpls and have family living near the bridge. Then I went to this site and at first was touched that it mentioned the disaster, then read some comment from a girl whose family was still unaccounted for and I just couldn't imagine looking at celebrity gossip sites when my family was supposedly unaccounted for in the middle of a tragedy.

I live 5 min away from the bridge. My power went out at 6:05 and within minutes I heard constant sirens. I had no idea what was happening but I felt something tragic was going on. All my neighbors were out on the street because it was very hot and we were w/o power and clueless. I can't imagine the brave people at the scene who helped others rather than running for their own safety. God will bless them and I hope they feel proud of themselves.

I dont understand why someone would say "the world hates America". Why, there have been nothing but people moving to North America from other countries worldwide for 500 years. I don't believe I have ever heard of an American citizen defecting to anywhere else. Exept maybe Mike Jackson. So saying that the rest of the world hates the USA is pretty fucking ridiculous. For those who say God did this…your even more stupid than the goat herder.

Next time you decide to suck dick, please choke on it. For those of us with beating hearts.

YOU CAN'T FUCKING JUDGE EVERYONE BASED ON THE COUNTRY OF THEIR ORIGIN! I don't even WANT to be here! I was born in Norway! But I don't hate anyone here nor do I look at all Americans as guilty - this is a young country. All countries started off clueless. They will learn from their mistakes, and it will make them all better people.

THIS however, what happened in Minnesota, was not a punishment. It was a very, very sad happening.

Anyways, back you those with anal cavities for brains- some day, when you're burning in hell, and Satan and his lovelies are doing you up the ass, the rest of us will be laughing at your petty cruelties done in your lifetime.

It is then that the true justice will be served, as you say.

I am really disappointed that people could be so heartless and say that this isn't a big deal. To those of us who live here in Minneapolis this is a surreal and horrible tragedy. It saddens me particulary, because someone I work with is still missing. He left work and never got home. His wife cannot locate him anywhere, and he cannot be located at any hospitals. He was a wonderful person and did not deserve this fate. Please keep us in your prayes. Keep the negativity out of this. This is a terrible tragedy.

It's a shame that people need to let their EGO's speak on these comments, whether they know anything about Minneapolis or NOT.
This is a time to appreciate everything in your life, your loved ones especially.
Tragedy knows no boundaries and yes, the rest of the world may not care. But born, raised and currently live in downtown Minneapolis, I care.
Thanks to everyone who listens to their HEART.
Thanks for all the support and LOVE.

What if you were one of us who suddenly lost someone in a freak accident? I hope lightning strikes you. Too bad you wouldn't feel it because your soul is so dead. WHO CARES-
I care. My cousin died on that bridge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Didn't your mother ever tell you that if you didn't have anything nice to say, DON"T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. And yes you can take that personal. Just as personal as my cousin did when she DIED ON THAT BRIDGE, leaving behind two young sons ages 7 and 9. So are you stupid little comments going to make you feel better about your pathetic little soul?( or obvious lack therefor of). IF you hate American culture so much, then why the fuck are you on this webpage? If we are so damn heartless, then why are we all grieving right now?
All you want is attention and yes, you got it. But I will not respond to any other ignorant comments. You are not worth the extra effort extrended past what I am writing now.
My cousin lost her life on that bridge so show some fucking respect or go back to your own damn websites run in your country. The problem isn't the people. It's the people who are running eveything, the biased media and all. And you would know that,IF YOU KNEW ANYTHING AT ALL!
I'm not you're typical American. I love this country despite the United States of America. I have no choice, being Native American and PROUD.

(#50 & #43) How dare you say stuff like that? Of course there is a God doing the best he can creating and saving lives everyday. Yes, this is definantly tragic and we don't always understand why things like this happen, but just keep praying for the victims, families, and friends. God Bless… I don't think anyone can say that enough.

Also, we do care about what is going on in Iraq and September 11th will always hold a place in my heart. I just wish the world wasn't like this, as does everyone else. But do not blame God, for all of the bad in the world. And just because we are commenting on this horrible tragedy does not mean we do not care for others who are dying and injured as well.
