      It looks like his mastiffs are Neopolitans. We had one and had to get rid of it because it was so mean and had to be kept muzzled. It doesn't suprise me that his neos killed the guy. Now English Mastiffs on the other hand are like complete opposites.

      Second, I don't think the dog in the picture is either a Mastiff or English Bullie. It looks an awful lot like a Pressa Canario to me. Check them out online. They are huge and can be more brutal than pit bulls!

      I have 2 English Mastiffs and they are the sweetest dogs in the world. If you train a dog to attack, it will be a dog that attacks. If you raise a dog to be a loving family member, that's what you'll have. Mastiffs are protective - yet gentle - by nature. I feel so sorry for that guy, but I'm interested to know WHY this happened.

      The dogs attacked because they were raised to be agressive by the OWNER. This is his fault. Doesn't matter the breed or the owner's race. It comes down to respecting and providing the proper care for another living creature.

      If anybody thinks that you can undo hundreds of years of breeding by "training" an animal not to be hostile, you're ridiculous, naive and don't read the papers. Well trained dogs attack all the time. And anyway, according to wikipedia, you can't ever train these dogs to be cool to strangers. EVER. In very few cases these dogs can get used to somebody if they are slowly introduced them over a long period of time, but that's only a small percentage if they come from a a certain line of less viscious ancestors. This guy bought a stranger - killer and he's responsible for what happened. This dog is KNOWN to do this.

      Finally some intellegent comments. We don't know if the man had a heart attack then being dead the dogs nawed on him. Also, everyone and there mother knows that these dogs are very dangerous. It's not like the dogs were running loose on the streets and attacked a child or a stranger. The man was familiar with the dogs. If it wasn't a case of the man having a heart attack then something happened where the dogs were provoked maybe. I own a pitbull and have owned two in my lifetime. They are the sweetest and smartest dogs. It all depends on how you raise them. If you teach a dog to kill and attack that is what it will do. If you teach a dog to be around children and to obey then that's what they do. I hate when people claim to know about dogs and have no clue. I'm sitting right now in my room with my pit "Bluebell" and laying on top of him is my chiuahua "jib". Jib is meaner than bluebell.

      I don't know much about vicious dogs, but I do know a "botox smile" when I see one. The expression on Mr. Rhame's face is exactly what someone who has had botox between their eyebrows looks like - you can't move that part of your face, but you can move the outside of your eyebrows and the result looks really scary! I dspeak from experience; tired it the first time about a month ago and can't wait for it to wear off.

      This is a sad, tragic situation and I believe there will be more to it when the truth is reported. Mr. Rhames does not appear to be an irresponsible dog owner and his dogs do not appear to have not been raised to be vicious animals. How sad for all involved.

      My family has always had mastiffs and they are the sweetest dogs that ever could be! Just because they are large, they are easily pinned as evil killers. How can you judge an animals and its owner if you don't know them. I would love to see "bad" dogs( rottwielers, dobermans, pitbulls, mastiff) vindicated from the stereotypical bad rap they are getting!

      "Nice" dog, "mean" dog…who cares as long as the owner is competent and responsible? People get hurt and killed, because of CARELESS IDIOTS who own protective dogs. I have a breed that has a natural dislike for strangers. He is no threat to anyone (unless they break in *and* don't back off), because I won't have it. I have him neutered, utd on shots, routine vet care, doesn't roam the neighborhood, leashed when out with me, properly/safely contained in a fence when outdoors for #1 & #2, otherwise kept indoors, etc. I would never in a million years put innocent people at risk. He's not a 'man-eater' anyhow, I wouldn't have such a thing. Especially, with children in the house. He's a good dog, who loves his home and family. Adores the kids and lives for playing fetch with them. He will bring them a ball for hours on end. It TRULY is the bad owners to blame.
