      Those breeds are not known for violent behavior, actually the mastiff is considered the "gentle giant" of the dog world. A mastiff will attack if provoked but any dog will. The only difference is if a Chihuahua bites you need a band aid, but large breeds… that is a different story. What a sad situation. I feel so sorry for everyone involved.

      Mastiffs aren't aggressive dogs, just big. He probably died from natural causes and the dogs had a snack, or else the guy did something to the dogs, but I doubt that. Sorry. I hope that the dogs are found innocent, as well as the owner.

      This sounds alot like Citizen Kane where he (Ving Rhames in this case) calls up and says "rosebud" and the dog kills the person there.
      .
      Anyway Mastiffs are visicous killer dogs and should be put down. you got to work at mauling someone to death, that dog knew what it was doing.

      They should go out on the street and round up all the pit bulls and mastiffs and shoot them before they kill someone else.

      we have a mastiff, we have a "beware" sign. Yeah, she might lick you to death, or beat you with her tail. Her size alone is enough to deter people, she is not aggressive, nor is the breed. The sign doesn't imply anything. Sorry. My money is on that the guy died of something else and the dogs had a snack. I hope the dogs are found innocent because I find this all hard to believe and I think a lot of facts have yet to come out. .

      WTF is wrong with you people? The man killed at Ving's house by the dogs was the dog's trainer. Nothing funny about it and Ving was not there. The dogs will likely be put to sleep and nothing should happen to Ving, they were in his gated yard.

      I have a pure bred bull mastiff… they are the MOST gentle dogs I have ever been around in my life. I have been attacked (severely) by dogs on 4 seperate occasions, the worst attack causing me to have 17 stitches in my neck. And guess what? It was from a frickin poodle, a small yappy little bitch named Hero.
      My dog, who weighs in at 162 pounds, 50 more than I weigh, is the most well behaved, gentle creature in this world.

      PUNISH THE DEED, NOT THE BREED… it's not the dog's fault, it's the owner's for not training it properly.

      Poor dogs, and poor guy. Dogs dont just "randomly attack" people. People that think they do are completely uneducated about dogs and animals in general. Mastiffs are not violent dogs, but any dog can be abused or pushed into violence. The fact that these dogs ears are cropped to a "fight crop" means that these dogs were more than likely not just household pets, but that they were probably guard dogs. Dogs trained in protection or bite work need to be very well trained, if not, this is the kind of thing that can happen. He trained these dogs improperly, or hired someone who trained them improperly.

      Hell, I keep my gates padlocked and a sign up as a deterrent to nosy people and for the safety of my dogs ! I have a Doberman and a Great Dane and I am more concerned about people hurting them , then I am about the dogs hurting anybody.
      And just to put my 2 cents in about the whole sad situation, dogs do not attack for no reason, and from what I understand so far about this incident, the mans wounds were not life threatening. I hope the autopsy will confirm this man did not die from a dog attack before those dogs are euthanized for no reason.

      This is tragic. My heart goes out to the victim.

      But let me say that not all mastiffs are violent. Some are gentle and sweet. It all depends on the owner. It is certainly horrible when a dog is raised to hurt others, and I feel for the victim.

      Agnacious, maybe the dogs knew what they were doing, but only because their owner trained them to do so. Don't suggest punishing all mastiffs and pit bulls - many will never hurt anyone. If you want to punish someone, punish the bastards that should never be permitted to own and (mis)train dogs.

      that man has been with those dogs for a long time mastiffs also are known for their sweet personality if the man had a heart attack and then the the dogs senseing something was wrong checked to see if it was all right . those dogs are huge so if they had shaken him he would look to be mauled. do not blame the dogs its NOT THEIR FAULT!!!!!!!
