Oprah Winfrey is in a small town in Canada, and lucky PerezHilton.com reader Zoe got the opportunity to meet her on Friday.
Here's what she has to share:
"Dear Perez,
Yesterday was probably the biggest thing to happen in the history of the small town I live in… EVER! I was born and raised in Alert Bay BC up here in Canada in a small fishing village (population 1400). We don't get a lot of excitement here, so when I noticed this giant yacht parked at the local dock, I knew it was someone important. Sure enough, the town was buzzing with word that OPRAH WINFREY was here! I couldn't believe it! My sister and I were really excited. We heard through local chatter where she was and decided to walk in that direction. Apparently she had already checked out our local cultural centre (half the population here is native). As my sister and I were walking and chatting about how cool that was, I realized that Oprah was in the group of 3 people walking in our direction. It was just her, an older gentleman and another lady. No security or body guards or anything like that. As we were passing her, a car of women stopped and Oprah graciously signed their Oprah magazines and took pictures with them. Word around town is that she was incredibly nice to everyone and signed a lot of autographs and took pictures with lots of people. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know our tiny little island was fortunate to have THE Oprah Winfrey on it for a few hours."

haha i've been to alert bay and the cultural center, it is a pretty small town but i can see why tourists come there because it is part of the inslaand water way and alot of cruise shups pass by.

Oprah is the richest woman in America, besides owning The Oprah Winfrey show, she also has her own production company Harpo entertainment who also produces the Dr Phil Show.

Although you do have a valid point.
It is what she has done with her talk show that has made her such an symbol.
She has used her talk show to promote numerous issues and distribute information. She truly has used mainstream media in a power and positive way to help educate and bring to the forfront otherwise ignored issues.
She has used her monetary success and power as a leader to aid in philanthropic activities and empowerment.
I think she is a true symbol of what is good in America. And I won't listen to anyone argue with me on that…
As a woman I admire her commitment to women's rights and progressive status in business. She is a producer, leader, philanthropist, educator, and intellect.

Sister is looking a bit LARGE these days. Nobody is more impressed with Oprah than Oprah. She does facilitate many good things, but with other peoples money and time, very little of her own. When she does 'spend' her own money it's in conjunction with her show, hence I am sure she is reimbursed by the company and it is a write off. Considering her LAVISH life style she donates very little.

Yes, the pictures are dated March 3rd, 2004… But if you really think about it, those pictures have to have been taken recently. You know why? Because it rains more than half the year in Canada, especially in Alert Bay. A sunny day in March? Not likely.
