After reading the review about why people didnt like the movie, I could see where the hate was coming from. If they turned it into the"Puchi" story and made her out to seem someone she isnt and take away focus on why Mr. Lavoe was so amazing, then I get all the hate. I don't know why people keep calling the movie "The Puchi & Hector Story". If people understand, the movie is being told in the point of view of Puchi, Hector LaVoe's wife. If you can't understand that, then you have a serious problem!!!

I think that people are just upset because the whole truth about how Hector LaVoe led his life is finally being told & I think the movie is very good!!!!!!

I'm familiar with a little of the history of hector levoe and have listened to some of his music(oh can he sing) and i must agree the movie was a disgrace to his memory. for one the movie did not focus enough the life of marc's character hector but more on JENNIFER SKANKPEZ'S character and SKANKPEZE'S abilities for which she has none. in the end i loved the music and i love marc but j-low had not business in the film whatsoever. I went to the movie friday night. It was sold out and the people were seated by 7:20 and hour before the lights and trailers. They were quiet except for the laughter at the humor and at the end, applause and a standing ovation. I guess you had to have lived in that era, but it brought back many memories, and I am going to see it again. Hector Lavoe album sales have gone up. I bought 6 of the cds, I had the LPs oringinally. I played them all weekend and I bought the soundtrack. You can't please everyone but I got my money's worth, and Willie and the rest are lucky to still be alive.
A lot of them were junkies and we all knew it. Jlo and Marc did a good job with a sad life. I will also buy the dvd when it comes out.

I just saw it and while I do agree it focues too much on Hector Lavoe's tragic demise (a semi drugalogue) it was actually pretty good. Marc's an incredible singer/performer and sorry folks, jennifer can act. its not fair to compare it to ray or walk the line, it a biopic about a musician but that's where the similarities end. its different stylistically and the music makes it stand out. it has an excellent soundtrack and the story, though tragic, ultimately moved me to buy lavoe's music and become a fan. I had never heard of him before, so I owe the movie for introducing me to such a great artist.

It was done well and I cried myself, so many memories of that era and they smoked so much and drank so much, like I said, Willie and the rest should just thank God they are still alive and in good enough condition to say anything. Hector never got over losing his mom at age 5. It is a very good movie.

Here's a quote from the film (said by Puchi before her death, during her interview for a documentary) that is very enlightening to how the story line was directed: ”If you want someone else's version, then go get that….”

The artists that are referred to in this review are obviously bitter. Bitter about the fact that their influence in Hector's life and the Salsa Movement was not highlighted to their liking. If the film would have included more of the side to Hector's life that they wanted to be shown then these individuals would have played a greater part in the movie leading to greater publicity for themselves. Selfish.

This is a story from a struggling artist's dead widow. She wrote the original script and asked Jennifer to do the film 5 years ago. If these bitter artists cared enough about Hector Lavoe's story they should've made sure the "other Hector Lavoe" movie had better financial support, helping to make it to the theatres for the world to see.

To those artists who played a role in this film and yet still spoke negatively I say "you fools" and ask "who takes part in a movie when they don't agree with the story line?" …if they even bothered to read the script. Answer: Someone who has selfish motives.

For those of you hateing on Jennifer, Marc, and their acting ability.. notice how there is no mention of it being bad. The only thing being discussed is the story line.

If these "artists" speaking negatively about the film want to portray more of Hector's life that demonstrates more of their own involvement in the Salsa movement I say "stop being selfish and make your own movie about yourself". Let this dead widow's story be told just as she told it. If these individuals REALLY cared about Hector Lavoe they would've financially supported La India's version so that it could make it to theatre's world wide.

To those bitter artists who actually took part in this film and still hate on it I ask, "Did you even read the script? You fools. Who does that?" Answer: People with selfish motives only interested in promoting themselves.

Notice the review doesn't bash Marc and Jennifer's acting and only focuses on the negative points that bitter artists are bringing up. I guess its is true that good reviews don't make headlines.

I am always skeptical of naysayers. Where was Willie Colon et al. during the development process? I bet they all cashed those consulting checks they received. If they are going to make a stand, how about giving the money back. For better or worse, Lavoe married his wife; he chose her. Why should the filmmaker question the authenticity of her side of the story?

As another poster said, if they want to see a different portrayal of Lavoe's life, then they should make their own movie.

I never heard of Lavoe before seeing the trailers for this movie and I am very interested in seeing it.

They all stated that this script was written by Hector's wife and the movie was directed/produced through her point of view. Jennifer plays this part! What don't you get? If you were Hector wouldn't you want your wife to be exonerated after everything you put her through. The movie doesn't even play her out to be a saint. It's the truth. The good and the bad.

FIRST, Willie Colon wouldn't be embarassed by his portrayal in the movie…HIS CHARACTER WAS HARDLY IN THE MOVIE!!! I just saw it for FREE "streamed" over the internet…and I still felt like I was ripped off. I am latina and someone who grew up singing, dancing, and loving Hector LaVoe's music/voice. This was a disappointment. I wanted more on his life, music, struggles. It didn't even come close to RAY. Of course, it was going to be Puchi's narration…a well thought out plan from Jennifer Lopez so that she can make her role BIGGER and ultimately making Hector LaVoe's story smaller. I'm not putting down a fellow latina…simply I don't like HER acting, and ego ways.

PPl comparing this to Walk The Line and Ray should realize that Jonnhy Cash was ADDICTED to drugs, just like Ray was ADDICTED to shooting up! Both these actor were and direcstors were praised for the depiction of the Johnny Cash and Ray Chrales!! Hector Lavoe was a legend before anyone knew what he did behind closed doors. The stroy depicts the life of a man who shot to stardom nearly overnight! Just like many in the "business", they succumb to drugs, but still manage to become LEGENDS in their own right!! The film depict his life from the inside, from the things that occured behind closed doors!!! He was a great salsa singer, who's words came from real life experiences! So he had his demons, who doesn't?????? I think it's a great film, i think Jennifer Lopez did a great job as well as Marc Anthony. That was his life, he CHOSE to do drugs, he CHOSE to marry "Puchi"…and unfortunately those were the circumstances…look a lil deeper into this type of movie before jumping to conclusions..otherwise someone needs to explain to me the difference between Ray, Walk The Line and El Cantante..

First of all, if you never heard of Hector Lavoe you should NOT have any worthy opinion on this movie PERIOD. You have no idea what he meant to Puerto Ricans and to salsa. Grant it, its unfortunate that the movie only showed his drug addiction and his disfuntional relationship with Puchi, but it was a good movie and he did a great part of depicting Hector. For someone to say he didn't potray Hector well is mistaken. Unfortunately, Hector had a rough life, but this is a movie made and produced and about latinos, instead of bashing each other why don't we just support each other. It may not be the best movie and you may not have enjoyed it, but at least these people made it and are making a name for themselves. Regardless they are successful latinos. They were motivated and became successful. Why is it that our own people are the FIRST to insult us? I kept hearing about Perezhilton.com so I decided to check it out. It’s interesting if your really bored and have nothing else to do and today was one of those days plus I’m on vacation and its raining so internet surfing was my pick for entertainment. FYI This is the first time I’ve ever posted. So I’m going to make it good lol.

I saw the movie last night with about 20 other fellow Ricans in our group alone. We loved it and sang to every word of every song. Jennifer was great. Marc was better than I expected. The story was from his wife’s point of view-so yeah there is a lot of Lopez. They all stated that this script was written by Hector’s wife and the movie was through her point of view.
