Listen To This: Don't Look Back

Remember Robyn?

The Swedish pop star is back and has pulled off a remarkable transformation from manufactured act to true artist. The Show Me Love singer is taking control of her career and doing things on her own terms.

You gotta respect that!

And, what's best is that Robyn's new material is so damn good and varied.

She's released a few songs on iTunes, from the fabulously frenetic Konichiwa Bitches to the raunchy country-ish Jack U Off.

Our fave new song of hers, though, is With Every Heartbeat.

Kylie Minogue would cream panties to release a song this good!

With Every Heartbeat is a slice of pure dancepop melancholia heaven. So beautiful!

Click here to watch the video and then CLICK HERE to listen to some other new material from Robyn.

You go girl!

Thank you for posting this Perez. I knew sooner or later you would!
I have been loving this song since January! IMO, this is the best single of the year.
This song just debuted at #5 in the UK this week based on downloads alone and is expected to hit the top 2 next week :)

Wow, Robyn, at the perezblogg! I am very impressed. She is from sweden just like me, Im grown up with her, from her gray shining jacket when she was just a young teenager.. a star, one of a kind. you got it right perez, now see the hives.

So random, but I was actually thinking of Robyn this morning while I was getting ready for work. You know how you connect random thoughts….I was thinking of that Utube girl that Justin signed to his label and I was thinking of how much she sounded like Robyn….'hmmm, what happened to Robyn? Wonder what would come up if I googled her?'

      Yup, weird. No joke.

    26. Margit says – reply to this

      26

robyn has been on her own for a long time, running her own label and all. But havent u heard that she will write a song for Britney?

    27. David says – reply to this

      27

So, I wrote a longer comment, which fucked up, but basically:

Konichiwa Bitches would be a much cooler song if she didn't say
"hammer your toe like a pediatrician" because that makes no sense at all.
Pediatricians are doctors of childrens medicine, not foot doctors. She definitely confused the word with podiatrist, and to me that the totally spoils the cleverness of that whole verse. Plus I kind of expect indie artists to be a bit smarter than that. Poop.

      34

She has written some songs to Britney in the past that never got recorded and now Britney has asked her help again. Lets see what we get from this pair, I´ve heard Robin is very in to Rihannas Umbrella…something similar maybe on sight in the future?

    37. Fröken Sverige says – reply to this

      37

Perez, you need to keep up with Europe a bit better. Robyn is a very well established and popular artist here, she's released sooo many hits since "Show Me Love" and did a mind-blowing album just a couple of years ago. It's not like she's only been back recently, she's never really left!
Anyway, Sweden OWNS pop music!! You should all listen to The Knife, José Gonzales, The Ark, Marit Bergman, Jens Lekman, Wild Birds & Peace Drums, The Embassy, Peter Björn & John, Nim, Gabo & the Wartels, Salem Al Fakir, Fibes Oh! Fibes, Surplus People, GoTo80, Tough Alliance, The Plan…

Hi! First of all, I love this page, I can´t start my day before I´ve paid you a visit so thank you for that.
I didn´t like Robyn when she made her first album "Robyn is here" but then she started to change and matured and with her last album "Robyn" and her own record company "Konichiwa Re" I totally dig her. She is a well known name in Sweden and she´s the kind of artist that you either hate or love. And now there is a rumour that she wants to write a song for Britney…. I don´t think that´s a good idea. Do you?
      From Sweden with Love!

Don't know if you're aware of this, but Robyn is also going to write a new song for Britney Spears herself.

    42. SwedeGirl says – reply to this

      42

Robyn has been recording music for years, she never really stopped.. america just haven't really been interested in her music. but good for u that u found something u like. And the reason why her music is slightly more interesting nowadays is because she owns her own record-label now so she can be more creative than before when other people told her what to do.:)

You're pretty late, that song's been playing all summer in Sweden. Also, you might wanna mention her possible co-operation with the biggest white trash chick of them all -Britney Spears. Aftonbladet (a newspaper/gossip magazine in Sweden, as I'm sure you're aware of, because you've been stealing their photos) wrote the Robyn is gonna write a song for Britney, by request, a couple of days ago.

      47

Actually, Robyn shouldnt have all the cred for this song. It's a young guy called Kleerup who is the artist. It's just "featuring Robyn." He uses different singers for every track.

    48. Charlotta says – reply to this

      48

Don't forget that she is writing songs for Britney now! (According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.se)

    49. Eureka! says – reply to this

      49

Forget about Timbaland and Pharrell, it's Robyn and The Knife who should be the ones producing Britney's new album! Not just one song! Now THAT would make a pretty awesome come-back!

      50

Yeah, let's cheer on the Scandinavians. Norwegian myself :p Anyone remember her first single "Do You Really Love Me"?! Oh the memories.. I was like 13 years old :p

      51

I totally agree, Robyn's fabulous. I'm also from Sweden (like most of them who have left commets :) ), and I also wanna tip you off with some other great swedish bands and artists (sorry about my english, it's not so very good yet); Darin (most teenage girls is crazy about him), The Ark, Salem Al Fakir (he's genious), Måns Zelmerlöw, Melody Club(the best) and Agnes(the winner of swedish idol 2006). These are all great and popular at the moment in both sweden, scandinavia and some parts of europe (maybe some in the US as well?)

      54

Yeah as Swedish Girl said, I would not have thought that Robyn would be famous/known in America, mostly because she has hardly been active in the Swedish popworld since her last album. Oh well it's pretty cool… another famous Swede in America :)

Robin S did the 1993 club hit "Show Me Love" that went :
"So baby if you want me, you got to show me love. Words are so easy to say, oh ah yeah, you've got to show me love".

Robyn did the 1997 pop hit "Show Me Love" that went "Show me love, show me life, baby show me what it's all about. You're the one that I ever needed, show me love and what it's all about ah yeah".

      Got it?

It's interesting to me that Perez says the above regarding a little-known (at least to me) singer but teases and reprimands Kelly Clarkson for doing the exact same thing. Where's the respect for her, perez?

    65. elli says – reply to this

      65

Ok, maybe she's a bit less bubble gum than she used to be but nothing special anyway. She doesn't write that great songs and her voice is quite ordinary.

Hey, this is another comment from Sweden… I don't know how Robyn was launched in the US, but she has always written her own songs, both lyrics and music. She wrote "Show me love" when she was just 16 I think. Maybe she came off as a manufactured act in the US, but here in Sweden she has always felt like the real deal. SHES GREAT!
