American Airlines is going to become the first U.S. carrier to offer broadband Internet access to customers on its planes.

Amen!!!!

The service is expected to begin early in 2008 and (at this point) mainly on coast to coast flights.

That works for us! Good thing we're signed up for AAdvantage miles!

That's AWESOME!!!! Damn, I can't wait until this becomes a regular thing on airlines. That'll make those long flights seem a hell of a lot less shorter.

Lufthansa has offered that for a couple of years. It's amazing! You can surf the web just like you're at your desk or any wireless hotspot. The flight attendants don't like it when you look at porn online though. JetBlue, Virgin American and United are also adding this to their planes.

That's great. You can't use cellphones, but, the internet is ok? How long until the terrorists embrace this piece of technology?

No…none of the carriers mentioned have it AT ALL since Connexion by Boeing yanked the plug on their satellite based service at the begining of the year.
This service will ONLY be available in the US, as it works off of the old, craptacular Airphone service that disappeared from seatbacks years ago.

That's great. How long till the first perv gets chucked out over Kansas for trolling kiddy porn sites. Or until "Porn Lover #1" gets beaten by angry dad for checking regular porn while sitting next to happy family on the way to Disneyland. How about www.howtoblowshitup.com? Or www.greatplanecrashes.com?

There are many things worse than being off-line for 6 hours. Try taking a nap or jerking off in the bathroom.

It's a shame. Even having the internets on board my flight still isn't enough to get me to flying those dwlindiling silver tubes that AA flies.

JESUS- THAT IS BITTERSWEET- WE ARE SO FRIGGIN CONNECTED THAT EVEN NOW ON THE PLANE WE"LL BE ABLE TO WORK INSTEAD OF READING A GOOD BOOK OR JUST RELAXING- WHICH WAS WHY BUSINESS FLIGHT WERE OK- NO ONE COULD GET A HOLD OF YOU!!!!!

Oh good. Now we will feel like we're sitting in a computing class with everyone clattering keyboards next to us and laughing out loud while they have conversations on instant messenger.

I hope headphones are mandatory or there is no volume.

People are in need of serious help if they can't do without the latest technology for a few hours.
What next, internet access on buses and in taxis?
Cos you know, "there are some professionals who travel all the time and would find it really useful, in fact we NEED it" oh shut up

That´s cool. Like 3-4 years after SAS and Lufthansa started with wireless internet on their flights. Oh, the euro airlines still offer food and booze on their flights.
And the lounges are free, if you have decent status.
Red Carpet is a joke. Ugly furniture, horrible snacks and no free internet?!

      Go Scandnavia!
