Kate is BEAUTIFUL, but like most of you when I first read her comments about monogamy my first thoughts were, "Hmm, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree," and "like mother life daughter." However, after reading your blogs and utilising the critical thinking skills learned in college I came to a few conclusions: The men that Kate are exposed to–her ex, Kurt Russell, Owen Wilson, they are basically the same…celebrities who have women throwing themselves at the all of the time. Unfortunately for Kate and Goldie, these men are not able to resist some of the delectable tidbits they are offered, because let's face it: some are VERY TEMPTING. Now if Kate were one of us "normal" people who meet guys at church, grocery shopping, etc., she would have a better chance of meeting a quality guy that stands a chance at being monogamous. However, she goes a bit far when she says, "part of what [she] loves about men" is their inability to be monogamous. I cannot think of ANY woman I know loving that about their man. Perhaps in their strange world it keeps the relationship exciting, but I'd like to think that her statement was misinterpreted, because as one blogger said (not verbatim), "if she loves the challenge of a man being unfaithful, why did she divorce her own cheating spouse."

A male's goal isn't necessarily to simply reproduce as much as possible, but to be more exact, to insure that his genes survive into the next generation. That is more likely to happen if the male's offspring survive to have children of their own. A homo sapien had more chance of genetic longevity if he stayed around to hunt and protect his brood. Pair bonding was simply more advantageous and biologically sound than wildly spilling one's seed into every knook and cranny. Of course, there always is temptation to stray, but as Milton said, and I paraphrase, there is no virtue without temptation.
