I certainly wish him a healthy recovery, but…
This guy's a DICK! Former Pres. Carter DARED to criticize Isreal's policy of treating the native Palestinians like animals in a recent book of his. In retaliation, Jewish Merv Griffin, just before he got sick, went on a hate-campaign against Carter for weeks, hitting all of the right-wing talk shows on Fox and such. Apparently, it's not ok to criticize ANY foreign policy of "certain" countries. I'd never seen anything so hateful until I saw the way Griffin trashed Carter.

Wow , this is sad news!!! Not too long ago I heard about Merv being strickened with this disease but not this early to hear his in grave condition. I feel for his family because I know how they're going through , my dad's been battling PC for 2yrs and so far the cancer is winning as well. My dad is due for chemo since conventional treatment for this particular disease no longer works in his favor. I hope and pray Merv will pull through this such awful time.

      61

Ironic how you can critisize Mr. Griffin for being critical of Jimmy Carter for doing the exact same thing…stating his opinion. Everyone has a right to their opinion, unfortunately every liberal I have ever met uses their most shrill voice to announce that THEIR opinion is the only correct one. When are you people going to finally realize that name calling and tantrums belong on the playground? Grow up.

Also ironic that you mentioned Mr. Griffin and Jimmy Carter…When I was 16 I had the good fortune to be in the audience when Mr. Griffin interviewed Jimmy Carter, and I got to meet both of them personally. Jimmy Carter was very down-to-earth and friendly, which I had assumed he would be. Surprisingly, Mr. Griffin was even more so, very kind, upbeat, truly a class act (in direct contrast to majority of the people I have met in the entertainment industry…maybe that is because so many of them are liberals?) I recall the entire interview as Mr. Griffin being incredibly respectful at a time when a lot of people didn't care much for Jimmy Carter. I can speak from experience, Jimmy Carter will not be remembered for his foreign policy, especially for his backing Pol Pot, who single handedly murdered more of his own people than Hitler did Jews.

One last thing…for you to refer to Mr. Griffin as a "DICK" and "Jewish Merv Griffin" is amazingly inflammatory. I seriously doubt that Jimmy Carter would use such degrading terminology in regards to anyone who might disagree with him. Jimmy Carter is a devout born-again Christian who, according to scripture, should embrace all people without care of their religious belief.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

    64. Tammy says – reply to this

      64

#61 - Schmermie: I KNOW Merv is not really Jewish and I have nothing against Jewish people; but, I do have a problem with the fact that U.S. policy seems to be so hell-bent on treating the middle east problem with such a subjective bias. I guess I am pro-US and think that we should treat Israel like any other of our allies and not be so afraid to criticize them if they counter our national interests. FYI–Merv is WELL known to be so anti-Arab that he once said, "If you lie down with Arabs, [you] get up with fleas." My rant was mainly against how, with malevolent glee, Griffin seemed to attack Carter's recent book on the basis that Carter was for giving the Palestinians a fair shake. If you're dying of cancer and THAT is how you want to spend your time…you can't expect a lot of empathy. Help out at a shelter, donate your billions, build a new wing on a hospital for God's sake.

      71

#70 - exactly correct. One of the most infamous incidents took place a few years ago in New York's Palace Hotel. Apparently the call boys were paid $2100 each ($700 an hour for three hours) for that particular little party, one of the features of which took place in the marble bathroom of the Presidential Suite, where "Marvelous Merv" delighted in pouring fine Champagne over the tight muscular bodies of the call boys, thek licking off their chests :)

      1. Merv Griffin is absolutely gay - not outing him as he has never been "In"
I lived in Hollywood for many years and beleive me, he is as gay as Rock
      and Elton combined.

      2. For someone as rich as he is I do not recall the last time he donated to
AIDS charities or the HRC. Take a note celebs: Hosting a party where
you pay for nothing and donate nothing to the charity and then try to
associate yourself with the cause and do intervies talking about how "you"
raised so much money is chickenshit and fake.

Griffin is a textbook example of the axiom that to succeed in business, you need both talent and luck. He received a cash payment of $250 Million dollars when he sold King World Syndication (Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune) to the Coca Cola Corporation. His initial instinct was to plow the money into new properties for his fledging hotel company. However, he was instead urged by people plugged into the Reagan-Bush (41) administrations to put the money into radio stations, as the regulations that tightly limited multiple ownership of stations were going to be greatly relaxed. It was a situation that only those with lots of liquid cash could take advantage of, and Griffin handsomely rewarded those politicians who made his greater wealth possible. The true long-term negative effect of concentrating owership in so few hands is that it places access to the airwaves - which are owne by you and me, after all - in the hands of a very few.

At some point, one has to wonder how many luxury homes, how many private jets , how many smooth-bodied muscle-boy concubines, are enough. On one level he has the right to enjo the spoils of is accomplishments, but given that Griffin semed to have no interest the greater good he could have accomplished with just a fraction of his amassed wealth, makes the 'outpouring' of grief on this page somewhat mystifying, to say the least.
