Here is someone who many either do not know, or do not remember - was another Aaron Spelling league Hollywood cornerstone.

How many gameshows did this guy create and produce? how many people even bother to read the credits.

This guys estate, my humble guess, if it is under 250 million, Ill be surprised.

I respect the guy for building what he did, behind the scenes and made a mountain of money for it.

So long, Mr G, I did not know you, but I admired what you made.

Wow, I can't believe people can say the terrible things like "one less fag" and still look in the mirror. This post isn't even about homosexuality. It's about a great man who put great television on. And if you have such a problem with homosexuality, maybe you should be visiting the George W. Bush webpage instead of Perez Hilton, a proud gay man. Get a life. Get a soul. Get a heart.

Big deal, another fat, unhealthy Hollywood celebrity dies. Just goes to show that you can't take it with you! I'm sure one of his kids is awfully happy today, just inherited millions.

Homophobes are so tasteless and tacky. Let the man RIP. Who cares if he, or anyone else for that matter, is gay? It's their lives. You live yours as you chose, and let them live theirs as they chose. Only GOD should be able to judge…not readers of PerezHilton.com or anyone else for that matter.

I grew up watching Merv's talk show. He had a joyful spirit–his eyes twinkled and it was obvious he loved what he did. Remember Totie Fields, anyone, or Arthur Treacher? Google them. He brought lots of joy to the world even before WOF or Jeopardy. A true pioneer, a true talent, a true gentleman.

      32

Merv Griffin's impact on the TV industry will be hard to equal. He was an icon of popular culture…band singer, talk show pioneer, game show creater…who seemed to know exactly how we wanted to be entertained I recall hurrying home to watch his 70s talk show boadcast from Las Vegas, everyday hoping Sonny and Cher would be on his show. Thank you Mr. Griffin for the happiness you brought to so many.

    33. it does not matter 'what' he was says – reply to this

      33

It does not matter was his lifestyle was - he was a majorly successful and prolific Hollywood producer and creator - Id admire the guy, period.

I do not care what the guy's lifestyle was, he was an ok guy in my book and would have been the better to know the guy over a drink.

I am as straight and right wing as they come - i could care less what his lifestyle was, there are plenty of Hollywood heterosexuals who are disgusting and raunchy in their life.

This guy - people write books about people like him. If he comes in worth less than a quarter of a BILLION, Ill be surprised.

Here's to you, Merv. I am actually going to have drink today in his honor.

Now that Merv is gone, can we tell everyone. He was gay, gay, gay. He always surrounded himself with young muscle boys. His employees always had to have extensive physicals and sign confidentiality agreements. That's why his ex employees never said anything. Like so many powerful people they indulge themselves in whatever ways they like.

Dear Perez - Fuck you for filing this post under gay gay gay. Why are you so obsessed with who's gay or not gay anyway? Probably because you're a self-hating gay who makes himslef feel better by throwing other gays under the bus if they aren't interested in flaunting their gayness in front of the world. All of my gay friends think you're a dick.

The man was a genius. He did not have a mean bone in his body. Look at the way he interviewed his guest. Never did he take his eyes off of them to pander to the camera. Did you ever hear him berate and try to shame his guest like Letterman? Never! When the facts come in, he will be worth more than a billion dollars. He sold the rights to Wheel of Fortune Columbia Studios for $250 million and that was 15 years ago. RIP Merv.

I've never heard of this Merv Griffin. Was he famous for comming out of the closet?

If he's gay, did the anal intrusion have something to do with the prostate cancer? I'm an Illegal immigrant, and can't write good english, so I need to know these things.

      61

Merv was a class act. Gay or straight, rich or poor… what difference does it make? I am still baffled at why some people can be so hateful. There are so many other things to hate….like poison ivy, a bee sting, a paper cut, the ebola virus. Why hate another human being who brought so many people joy? Rest In Peace Merv. Now you get a free spin…

The Merv Griffin Show” aired for 23 years and helped jump-start the careers of George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Lily Tomlin, Whitney Houston and Jerry Seinfeld. Griffin taped more than 5,500 shows and interviewed 25,000 guests, including four U.S. presidents, Martin Luther King Jr. and John Lennon when he was still a Beatle. Merv Griffin was such a visionary & he discovered so much talent.

      1. I could care less what this guys life was in his own home.
      2. Several people bought up good points about Merv - the guy was a gentleman, a class act to his guests.
      3. I like all the trashy secrets people seem to have knowledge of about his 'other life' - so if he did like male prostitutes, that makes him bad - but the 'straight' Hollywood types, if they use a Heidi Fleiss it - they are ok - fuck you hypocrites. Immorality is not limited to homosexuals.
      4. Most of the game shows for the last GENERATION, not decade, are probably to do with his craetive influence.
      5. Like I wrote earlier I was having a drink to toast this guy - Im having my first cognac in a few hours - the 20 dollars, totally worth it - the guy was majorly successful, more than every hater on this site running their mouths combined. The only thing they feel when they reach into their pockets, is their leg.
      6. If Merv were here to read some of the bullshit written about him, he would simply shrug it off, then go back to counting his money - while many of you are shitting your pants about being late on your car note.

      88

I'd have more sympathy for the old closet-case, if he wasn't a Republican. I did like his show, but to hide in the closet his whole life giving money to people who hate his kind, is a pretty pathetic legacy to leave.

    89. JohnnyG says – reply to this

      89

Perez, you low-life. Merv Griffin was a great man."
A "great man", why, because he was on TV? He was a talk-show host, big whoop. Get a fucking grip.
"How can you file his passing under “gay gay gay”? Because he was gay. Just because ignorant homophobes such as yourself think it's an insult to say someone's gay, doesn't mean it IS an insult. It's no different than commenting on his hair color. Perez points it out precisely because ignorant people continue to hold onto that prejudice. Perez is pushing your buttons, laughing at your hysterics, and getting filthy rich off all the page hits.

Merv Griffin was absolutely the best talk show how that ever was….he was a pioneer in the industry. He was kind, down to earth, funny, talented, an absolute class act, and included some of the best performers at the height of their popularity. This man was a legend, and we will miss him dearly.
