She's Not That Old

Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Jodie Foster

ajodieeee.jpg

One of our favorite lesbians in Hollywood, Jodie Foster, is on the cover of the new issue of More, a magazine for "mature" women.

She's only 44!

Regardless, it's fascinating to take a look inside the brain of the multiple Oscar winner.

Here's an exlcusive taste of the dykon's interview!

On privacy:
“In 20 years, people will look back on my life and I’ll be 65 and Britney Spears will be 45, and I think by then people will understand the value of privacy.”

On her idols:
“Katharine Hepburn had a really long career. I look forward to aging on-screen, to making movies when I’m 65, 70, to playing the parts of real older women. I’d love to have the career of Meryl Streep. But I’m not sure I’ll want to work as much as she does in her fifties.”

On plastic surgery:
“It’s not my thing…I’d rather have somebody go, ‘Wow, that girl has a big nose” than “Wow, that girl has a bad nose job.’  I’d rather have a comment about who I am than about something that identifies me as being ashamed of who I am.”

On gun control:
“Isn’t it possible that we all have that bit of insanity in us?  That’s why I’m for gun control.  Absolutely.   Hunting, I get that – let’s protect hunting. But I don’t believe that people should have access to life-or-death situations at any emotional time in their life. I don’t really believe that a human being who feels [things] should have the option at their fingertips.”

About the loneliness of an actor:
“Whether I like to admit it or not – and usually I don’t like to admit it – the stuff I do affects me.  It’s this strange lonely thing.  It’s hard to explain what it is to lie in a pool of fake blood for four days and just be thinking those thoughts…There’s a real sadness to it. So I don’t want to do that more than once a year.”

On being famous:
“I’ve learned a lot of lessons over the years. One is that if I weren’t famous again and no one knew who I was, I’d be perfectly happy.”

On family:
“Every once in a while I’ll have one of those days when I’ve fed the fish, cleaned 10 poops from the patio, taken the cat to the vet, sewn my son’s stupid karate stars on until my fingers bleed and made sure that he has everything, and he wakes up and goes, ‘Oh, what’s for breakfast?’ he doesn’t know, and why should he? Right?  But there’s absolutely no sort of acknowledgements or reward for this – except for the intangible of my kids growing up to be wonderful people.  I do find myself in the garage listening to NPR because I want to have a stimulating side to my life…The only thing about having kids is that I miss being alone.”

On the upside of being 44:
“I think the pressure’s off. The hardest part of my personal neuroses is that I feel responsible for everything. I put so much pressure on myself, and I always did as a kid. There’s a nice thing about turning a certain age where you’ve made so many life decisions; so many nonchosen paths are behind you, and you don’t have to worry about them anymore.”

Yes, Jodie being raped is an "emotional" moment for most Womyn (and Men); so is being burglarized @night in your own home. You would not know about these things because you live in a gated, secure neighborhood — you are secluded from reality. I would rather shoot an intruder to my home than be shot. Guns have a place; just not unlocked around kids.

I consider myself to be a huge fan of Ms. Fosters, but I did not know that tidbit…or had forgot. I, like many others, assumed she had adopted, and I only knew of one son. Darn, no little Jodie, but I'm sure that they're amazing kids. Thank you so much for sharing that with me, and hey, at least the sons can carry on the surname–as well as her DNA. :) Also, I apologize, Jody is 44; she'll be 45 in November. My birthday was 8/1, hence the slight difference.

Now THIS is a very smart, well-spoken woman. She treasures her privacy, and keeps her family out of the limelight. Should she come out? I do believe that's an issue for every individual to decide on his or her own terms, at his or her own time. Jodie? Everything that Santa Angelina is not. Super smart, deeply talented, thoughtful, caring but not self-righteous. And she doesn't shill her children for a buck, charity donated or not.

I work at More magazine and it's for women over 40, it's not like an old women's mag, just a mature women's mag. So Jodie Foster is a perfect cover model, just as Diane Keaton, Ellen Barkin, Katie Couric, and Angela Basset were.

"Is it true that you go to the dentist for a haircut"???

I like Jodie and think she's a talented actress. I also think she's entitled to her privacy and can come out when (and if) she damned well feels like it. I do take issue with her comparing her career to that of Katharine Hepburn or Meryl Streep, however. For my money, she does not have nearly the range of either of those two actresses, who appear(ed) equally adept in comedic roles, heavy dramas and sudsy, tear-jerking "chick flicks". Jodie only seems to be able to pull off the "determined woman in distress" roles, a la "Flight Plan", "Panic Room", "The Accused" and, of course "Silence of the Lambs" - in other words, pretty much the majority of the roles she's acted in over the past two decades, because she rarely steps outside her comfort zone. When she does, (think "Somersby", "Anna and the King", etc.), she falls pretty flat. I think she would do well to find a comedic role in a Christopher Guest flick or even something utterly silly akin to "Knocked Up", "Hot Fuzz" or the next "Meet the [Parents/Fockers]" installment to add a little diversity to her resume.

MORE is for women 40 and over. 44 is over 40, so therefore it makes sense that Jodie Foster is in the magazine. Great interview, by the way! There are a lot of young performers out there who should look up to her as a role model. Finally, an actress that has it all together!

Hey, Spicy McDickhead (#128) ~ I would like to ask you where you get off (or how you beat off, perhaps, given your crass line of questioning) and why a woman who chooses to have a child–or children–on her own (or out of the limelight) is any of your business? Unlike Brangelina, Ms. Foster is not out selling photo ops of her children or dragging them around from country to country. She is providing a secure lifestyle for them in one place and has chosen not to work as intensely as she once did. I personally think she didn't go to a sperm bank but asked a close male friend (or friends) to do the honors. Probably someone intelligent and fun like she seems to be. But thank goodness, unlike Melissa Etheridge's public announcement a few years back, we'll probably never hear about it!

#80 CoCo was on the mark about gun control. I was a sheriff once (shot at 2X) and my brother has been police officer for 19 yrs and here are the facts that are not reported. There are 1,000's of lives saved each year because the citizen had a gun and used it; the media doesn't report it because they are pro gun control. Crime is higher in areas were gun laws are strict; even in England with their laws the murder rate has not drop significantly. If someone wants to kill you and you alone (which is the majority of murders), they will find another weapon to kill you with–you can't outlaw baseball bats, kitchen knives, or bare hands. The police cannot provide protection like everyone thinks. Most of their actions are "after the fact." It's always 90% boredom and 10% high tempo for a patrolman. Remember, you are first line of defense in protecting your life and love ones. Who would want to delegate that responsibility? If Dr. William Petit Jr, the Connecticut doctor whose family was raped and murdered recently, had a gun, he would have had a chance against those monsters and change the outcome.

The amazing thing about this Oscar winner actress is how she keeps her private life, PRIVATE. For years, she has given substantial amount of money to different organizations around the world. A major humanitarian, but she has keept this fact from the public. (Like real humanitarians do).

I really believe she is the antithesis of Angelina Jolie. While Angelina make a muckerry of herself promoting her "generosity to the world", Jodie keeps quiet and classy about what she does for others.

She is also a friend of her friends. When everybody was blaming and trashing Mel Gibson for his "Jew" accident, Jodie Foster defended him with passion, even thought it was not "politically correct". Oh how I love this women . She is the real deal!

WHAT HYPOCRISY!!!! The closeted dyke has some gall to suggest that someone who chooses to have plastic surgery has something to be ashamed about. If she's all about lovin' her big nose, then why can't she just come clean about being a dyke. Geezzzz!
