Ledger has got balls. It was only about 18 years ago that Jack Nicholson went down in history as one of cinema's great villains when he played the same role. In spite of the inevitable comparisons, Ledger still took on the role. Mucho Respecto.

Jack as the joker was just him over acting as he always does, all of the Batman movies before Batman Begins sucked. The last one was the only one to come close to the grittiness of the comics, and this one looks like it will be just as good. Keaton, Kilmer, and Clooney were all terrible in the role

Christopher Nolan totally made the Batman franchise with Batman Begins, that movie kicks any of the other cheesy ones butts! He is such an amazing writer (as well as his brother) & director for anyone who loved Batman Begins & hasn't seen Memento, go watch it!

Anyone who knows the Batman series knows the Joker was evil and nasty and dark, not cartoonish like Jack's and Cesar Romero's (from the old tv series). So I think Heath will be awesome in this.
And Maggie can only be an improvement over cardboard cutout Katie. She ruined that movie. No chemistry with anyone in the cast at all!
And the only thing better would be for (a) Heath to "own" this role and (b) for Jake to play Batman in the followup! I love Christian Bale but Jake is MADE to play Batman. He needs to do something really dark and nasty.

I find it quite funny how most of these people posting comments have probably never opened up a comic book and probably know nothing of Joker's history… I think that you cannot compare Heath's Joker to Jack's Joker. The new Joker is more serious, more of an adult-oriented Joker whereas Jack's was more PG.
