Listen To This: Like Chicken Soup

sharon-jones-cover-art-larg.jpg

You may not know her name, but Sharon Jones' voice is like a long lost comforter, cherished and wonderful to cuddle under.

Jones is the face and voice of The Dap-Kings, a soul/funk collective from Brooklyn that recorded most of the songs off Amy Winehouse's breakthrough album, Back To Black.

Now, The Dap-Kings and Sharon are releasing their own album and it's a heaping plateful of soul food.

Enjoy the delicious 100 Days, 100 Nights below and then CLICK HERE to listen to some other songs from Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings.

so glad you're so current, it's their third record mario. way to check your facts: "Now, The Dap-Kings and Sharon are releasing their own album and it’s a heaping plateful of soul food." it's about time you gave a real musician some props, even though you think they had no past before amy winehouse.

      33

Perez I am very glad you have FINALLY given some attention to the real magic behind amy winehouse's classic sound. However this is not the first CD put out by Sharon Jones and the Dap kings. They have released two prior cd's on the Dap kings label "DAPTONES Records". I doubt very much that Amy winehouse's last cd would have gained as much noteriety as it has without them. It's a shame that the band that has such a huge influence on the sound of the album, is often forgotten. Watch "standing in the shadows of motown" and maybe you'll get what I mean… Glad to see you clued in on this one!

Nice to see you link some amazing music here. Don't forget though, they have significant work before the Wino association. They are getting some deserved attention w/o the youthful tabloid engine fueling them (till now, funny that), like the way the Claptons and Stones and Cobains had their fans looking back to discover Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, and Leadbelly. And we're lucky enough to also have a Sharon Jones alive in her prime!

Watching the Dap Kings back up Amy Winehouse recently was like watching thoroughbred band being ridden by a drunk (however good) singer. You got the impression that the Dap Kings were playing at 80%. Having seen Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings several times.

Amy cannot hold a candle to Sharon. Though it is not an either/or proposition.

Trust me on this, if you like any of the songs on Amy WInehouse's album you will LOVE Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.

It's fantastic that you have recognized this Perez.

Amy "OD and ipecac your way to fame" cannot TOUCH this woman vocally.
It's really obvious when they sing in front of the same band

    90. Toledo To Detroit says – reply to this

People in the midwest have known who she is for a long time. I'm surprised that this might be the first time Perez has ever heard of them…there are a ton of good bands in the area, including Stylex, Heartless Bastards, The Dirty Damn Band, and The Hard Lessons. get with it P-rez!

    91. Beth says – reply to this

      91

Are you people retarded? I pretty much agree with everything Perez likes and says, but Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings have been together for YEARS. Amy Winehouse, bless her drunken self came after Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings already recorded an album. Show Sharon Jones some respect!

      Hey there.

Thanks for bringing the Sharon Jones party to the masses. May I just add that this is in fact Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings' third album (following 'Naturally' and 'Dap Dippin'). All are wonderful, chocolatey smooth soulful albums. This woman can sing like only someone with true soul knows how. Perhaps you can do some research and update your info.

      Viva la Sharon Jones.
