It was much better when Cubans were merely slaves to another nation's people unless they were rich Cubans. It was much better when women weren't allowed to attend school, work or join the military, they were only able to pop out kids and clean the house, cook the food. If they were rich, they could sit pretty while other Cuban women cooked, cleaned and took care of their kids. Yeah, that Cuba was MUCH better than Castro's Cuba. Don't forget that the reason Cuba does so horribly is because of the sanctions put on them limiting their ability to fully function. Don't give me the whole freedom of speech, etc shit either. I'm not happy to hear of a the death of such a historical figure. His goals were clear, that those goals were too lofty to ever be met in a world such as this one doesn't make him a monster. Castro's brand of communism was born of love and materialized by blood shed and war. All revolutions proceed this way–to take it a step further, all democracies begin this way as well. Looking at what its become, I can say that hard workers in Cuba are not rewarded the way we Americans think they should be. For every 100 Cubans who would declare that they hated Castro's Cuba, there is another 100 Cubans who loved the direction he took the country in. I'm not overlooking the atrocities on Castro's 40+ year term, but I refuse to over simplify the idea that this "tyrant" needed to die in order for the Cuban people to breath freedom. In my opinion, to do so would be a gross concession to the years of propaganda produced by this country against the form of government of this neighboring country. Much of the fiscal struggles faced by the sovereign nation has to do with the sanctions we have had in place for decades.
