"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," the actor said in a statement released through his publicist on Monday.

No comment on the reported suicide/overdose that lead to his emergency hospitalization in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Depression is a real illness, and a suicide attempt does not mean Own Wilson's is bad. It means his brain chemistry is off kilter and that he will have to take care of this condition for the rest of his life. It does not mean that he is not funny, not loved, or does not have good relationships. Depression happens even if you are rich, employed, attractive, and surrounded by friends.

Owen comes home to Dallas a lot and always attends AA mtgs at the same place where I go… he always seems to be struggling. I bet this incident is tied to that. In my 12 years of sobriety, I have seen a lot of folks in recovery attempt suicide (and die) from struggling with their addictions.

For all you people who are making fun of him at a time like this and saying that you don't care, congratulations you are pathetic. I'm sorry, but attempting suicide is a very serious matter. I know people who have done it and succeeded. I wish that there had been more help for these people. So actor or not, ANYONE can have a serious mental illness and I hope he gets all the help he needs to recover. If it were any of you on here that post even, I would feel bad. It's sad that a lot of people really don't understand.. Get an education my dears, or try to be a litle more sympathetic.

Why do people keep asking 'what could be so bad'? I believe that most people who commit suicide (or attempt it) suffer from depression. Depression is not necessarily caused by outside sources - it's the brain's inability to make you feel happy. Alcohol and/or drugs makes it even worse. You could have everything GREAT going on in life but still be depressed. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Owen started out more as a writer than a leading man. "Bottle Rocket" was brilliant; I couldn't wait for more similar projects from him. Somehow, though he started working in big, dumb Hollywood blockbusters. At first I hoped all of this was to raise money for his next small, intelligent comedy, but it never really happened. Instead, he started partying A LOT and writing less. He's a fantastic screenwriter; this is what he should have focused on.

God knows what he's addicted to… I'm sure that's what's really behind this. I'm afraid he's really lost his way and I hope he can find his way back. This suicide attempt somehow doesn't sound like it was carried out with finality. I think he wanted to live somehow, he just needs help. Good luck, Owen, you can get back!

You know, in a way I feel for this guy, but in a way I don't. He is so much more fortunate than a lot of people I know, myself included. I know that money can't and doesn't buy happiness, but it sure could alleviate a lot of stressful situations that are faced by we "normal" people everyday. I wonder if Owen knows the stress of living paycheck to paycheck…knowing that you can't afford to eff up and you have to put up with all kinds of BS because your kids, your livlihood depends on this job (and your employer knows it). I wonder if Owen was ever in serious pain but just had to suffer because he couldn't afford to go to the doctor? I wonder if he ever had a fever of 102, was throwing up, and delirious, and the only way he could afford over the counter medication was to find something valuable to pawn? I wonder if he ever sat through eight hours at work watching others eat while he was starving but could not afford to buy lunch? I wonder if he ever ate the same thing three days in a row, one time each day so his kids (I know he doesn't have any) could have some variety or the last piece of meat? I wonder if he…oh never mind, there are so many more worst case scenarios, and these are things that I deal with all the time, but I've never tried to commit suicide.

the fact that he is still hospitalized adds to the validity of the suicide attempt rumors. by law, they have to hospitalize a person for three days after a suicide attempt in a mental facility for evaluation (known as a 72 hour hold) and to make sure you don't do it again….if he isn't out before Wed, we will know—then again, celebs have their ways of getting around laws…
