The middle east was the birthplace of many of our fundamental mathematical concepts. Americans have a low travel percentage so most of them couldn't be bothered to even look at a map, let alone know where any other countries are located. The problem is that the poor and uneducated outweigh the rich and powerful and even they are too busy with being selfish and self-centered to care about maps.
