What's She Smokin'?

Filed under: Anglophilia > Drugs > Lily Allen

la2.jpgla1.jpg

Lily Allen enjoys a lovely hand-rolled "herbal" cigarette at London's Notting Hill Carnival on Thursday.

Someone just told us this…..

Did you know that in Vancouver, Canada, you can smoke herb in the streets and the cops won't arrest you?

Apparently, everyone in Vancouver is very "green"-friendly.

Vancouver is fun, and for that very reason.
Mind you, in my wholesome little town of Tecumseh Ontario, it's easier to get your hands on a joint than it is a loaf of bread.
It's why we have so many pizza places and Doritos sales are through the roof.

  36. Linda says – reply to this

    36

Lovely. Meanwhile, in the US, people are battling their addiction to heroin, coke, crack - and oh yes…..it all started with one joint.

  42. Sarah says – reply to this

You can pretty much smoke anywhere in Canada, with little to no problem. It's just fuckin cool like that up here.

Also in Halifax, NS…we have cannabis day. It is illegal but the cops pretty much leave you alone. You can smoke it on the streets like cigs.

  51. Perez's Love Child says – reply to this

    51

It's still illegal for someone to possess pot in Canada (unless you have an excemption for medical marijuana). However, the attitude towards pot smoking is vastly more relaxed than in the US, and more inline with European attitudes.
Canada has discussed the decriminalization of (small amounts of) pot (where you'd get a ticket for a misdemeanor), however the government usually bows down to the pressure from the US government.

  52. Best Chronic says – reply to this

    52

For our US neighbours, Vancouver is in the province of BC. BC stands for Best Chronic…there is your answer

  53. Deanna says – reply to this

    53

Another hello from Vancouver Canada here ^_^
Yeah its illegal and if they are bored they will hassle you and make you put it out but you'd never get arrested for just smoking a joint. Carrying an 8th or more…you'd probably get taken in. But yeah, the cops dont really care…we have the amsterdam cafe here where you can smoke all you want inside, as long as its not sold.

  54. Ava says – reply to this

    54

Hell yeah in Vancouver we are green friendly. We also have cafes in which you can smoke weed to your hearts content and not get busted!
    Woo!

  55. grace says – reply to this

    55

It's true, it's very green friendly! You don't get busted for smoking in public or being in possession of it, you'll only get in trouble if you're caught selling it. I still wouldn't blow it in a cop's face, though :) That's not very nice!

  56. Andrea says – reply to this

    56

It is not legal ANYWHERE in Canada…it is tolerated in certain Provinces to a certain point (ie BC)…You can't smoke weed on the streets in Montreal (well you can but they will take it away from you if you get caught)

  57. chris says – reply to this

    57

The vancouver comment isn't exactly accurate. But canadians tend to have a far less aggressive view on pot than americans do.

  58. Melisa says – reply to this

    58

    it's just paper

  59. Drunkst says – reply to this

    59

how about most of canada turns a blind eye to mary jane? i was just in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and it reeked of Marijuana downtown, cops didn't do a thing!

  64. Best Chronic says – reply to this

    64

For our US neighbours that don't know, Vancouver is in the province of BC. The province of BC stands for Best Chronic…and now you know!

  65. Nicholas says – reply to this

    65

Most people in England buy tobacco and hand roll their own fags since it's cheaper to do so. Smoking a joint in plain view would arouse the suspicion of a police constable, even though cannabis is decriminalised.

  66. Steph says – reply to this

    66

    Vancouver fuckin rocks.

  67. Heidi says – reply to this

    67

Looks like my next vaca will be in Vancouver!

  68. brianwilsonisgod says – reply to this

    68

Here in the UK, cannabis is not actually legal but it is decriminalised - that means that if you're walking down the street smoking a joint, a policeman can take it off you, but he can't arrest you or caution you or anything because you're not actually committing a crime….

  69. Amy says – reply to this

    69

The whole reason that "nothing is done" here in Canada is because the cops have realized that they have bigger problems to deal with like meth addictions and murders. Why worry about a little weed?

  70. Lana says – reply to this

    70

Actually PErez,… you will get arrested in canada for smoking the green on the streets…that just how much you know about ANYTHING… next time do some research before you pull a fact out of ur fat ass

  71. Momo says – reply to this

    71

yeah you can smoke weed pretty much anywhere in the city undisturbed…except for in a city park after 11, then your barking up the wrong tree

  72. Bytch says – reply to this

    72

    I don't smoke it myself…but it's safer than alcohol.
Smoke it up girl and chill out.

  73. kat says – reply to this

    73

you can pretty much smoke a joint anywhere in canada and as long as you are not being too troublesome, the cops don't care too much. its because in canada, we are smart enough to know to not waste our time punishing people who merely smoke a little weed from time to time

ps - sandra, everyone is well aware that you can smoke in the netherlands… i'm pretty sure anyone who has ever heard of amsterdam knows that. the point perez was trying to make i believe is due to the fact that canada is so close to the states, and the states are stupidly strict about it, its a little more shocking.

  74. camaguey says – reply to this

    74

I can't stand this fat, ugly person.

  75. Jessica says – reply to this

    75

oh how i love the cheeb.

  76. Jen says – reply to this

    76

    I 100% certify your Van comment…….. Fun, hey! ;)

  77. Beth says – reply to this

    77

I'm from Vancouver, and want to point out that the only reason our overworked police don't seem to care about someone smoking dope in the street is that they don't have time: they are far too busy trying to keep up safe from all the drug runners, pimps, and money launderers from the US and abroad who are hell bent on destroying our city. But possession of marijuana is still illegal here, just so falsely confident visitors know.

  78. Lynne Anderson says – reply to this

    78

I totally went to Cannabis Day in Halifax this past 4/20.
I was kinda dismayed there weren't that many people there…

But this group of like 4 that we were sitting beside had a fucking HUGE joint.
Man; what a day. I don't even remember the ferry ride back from Dartmouth.

  79. cindy says – reply to this

    79

to all your vancouverites - we have weed cafe's in toronto… same deal, you can smoke it there but not buy/sell - so quit thinking you are so special!

  80. boobs says – reply to this

    80

Or it could just be a regular ROLLED CIGARETTE, people do smoke those.

  81. Mui from montreal says – reply to this

    81

actually, cops are pretty lenient on 420 in Canada, especially in quebec. A majority of people are not against legalization here.

  82. tiffy1991 says – reply to this

    82

ok. im live in vancouver and that is a bunch of crap. it is illegal just like everywhere else, just on occasion the cops will turn a blind eye to deal with more potent issues.

  83. canadian girl says – reply to this

    83

pretty much all the big cities in canada, vancouver, toronto, montreal, you can smoke on the streets, in public, no ones gonna bug you. but it depends if you're wylin out or not…..if you act like you're gonna be a problem, they're gonna come after you.
if you're cool. they are cool.

  84. Weedboy says – reply to this

    84

hombre, I live in Barcelona and it's legal to grow here….people smokin all over the place all the time and no one blinks an eye…..

  85. s says – reply to this

    85

i live in vancouver, bc. weed was decriminalized for a few months, two years ago, & then the law was reverted for political reasons. i work next door to a public store where you can buy weed downtown. you literally walk up, ask for a 20, pay & walk away. how this place stays open is a mystery to us all. we're thinking hell's angels/cops

  88. mmmm says – reply to this

    88

Yeah I think it is like that pretty much everywhere in Canada. I'm really hoping it does get decriminalized soon because really, it's not even as bad as getting loaded drunk. You're just mellow and HAPPY! AINT HURTIN' NOBODY!! Everyone I know just take walks around town smokin' away.. mmmm

  89. Miranda says – reply to this

    89

    Hey Perez
Canada is a pretty green friendly country - here in Montreal people walk down the street smoking weed all the time and noone bats an eye…
In fact you can carry up to an ounce on you so long as it is not in individual baggies (intent to distribute) without it being a criminal offense….

  90. tw says – reply to this

    90

perez, whats up! here in london, weed in the streets no issue, same goes for milan, paris, all the fashion/media hubs..no big thing. and we actually have style and mean something on a global scale (unlike vancouver, which is boring!)

  91. amy says – reply to this

    91

Why did Perez not report over the incident that happened there? Lily climbed upon the stage and disturbed the performance of another singer who was not amused. She was kicked of the stage.

  92. dick says – reply to this

She's pretty but she's WAY too fat.

She's fat. She's not normal/healthy. She's fat. She has so much blubber on her arms and cholestrol in her blood stream. Sooo fat! I bet she has back pains.

  94. Joanna says – reply to this

    94

It should be legalized everywhere. Who the fuck cares if celebs smoke? Nearly everyone does!

  95. bee says – reply to this

    95

yeah.. thats right.. we have 420 days on april 20th and on canada day which is july 1st is cannabis day.. we have huge pot smoking rallies at the Vancouver Art Gallery…. cops are there.. but they dont arrest people. which is cool.. plus in Vancouver we have the BEST weed.

  96. Jen says – reply to this

    96

You can smoke green all over in Canada and the cops are unlikely to stop you. You should be in Toronto for the weed march this year - about 20,000 people marching down Bloor for marijuana. A must-see.

  97. les1ie03 says – reply to this

    97

Yes!! It is awesome. I went there on vacation and people were walking down the streest hitting their pipes!!

  98. Danielle says – reply to this

    98

I have a comment about the Vancouver Cops being fine with weed…that's not true. They DO arrest people but not that often…there's just so much more important things to worry about … SO TOKE AWAY!!!

  99. Victoria says – reply to this

    99

FROM ENGLAND: you bunch of true morons. About 90% of English smoke cigarettes that are rolled themselves - you know, with a bag of tobacco and rolling papers. Of course, you North Americans get all "beavis and butthead" when you see a rolled cigarette — oohh a joint - oooh call the police oooo!!!" You're too funny to watch in action.

  100. Steph says – reply to this

    100

Indeed VAncouver is a very green friendly city. The attitude of the people born and raised here is that pot is no big deal, it's nothing more than smoking cigarettes or drinking. I actually know a lot more people who smoke pot than cigs!

Another reason why Vancouver is the number 1 city to live in ;-)
