Before she even came out she was on the verge of being dropped from her record label because they didn't see her going anywhere, then they hired people to write hit lyrics and music for her to sing to. Look it up.
And if you have heard her live (especially when she first came out) you will know that she could not sing in tune, it was all tweaked in the studio.

Someone had the foresight of smuggling in a recording device to the Texas auditions and we've got the audio from the ladies' first critique!
