Shakira effin' rocks. I remember watching her "MTV Diary" episode, where she visited an orphanage/school in Colombia, and she spoke of "incentivizing" education. She used the word "incentivize" for cryin' out loud - how many pop stars do you know that can do that? She came across as very intelligent, kind, and aware of how to use her fame & fortune to help others. That makes her cool in my book.

In South-American countries people, contrary to common knowledge, study a lot and get at least a College Degree. Her music stinks and everything, but she’s very generous and uses her fame for good causes. Additionally, she seems very charismatic, has a unique voice (not very pleasant sometimes), altogether with a beautiful frame (ass), so she’s the total-package for any record company. Seeing Shakira projected in the public image as such a good girl makes me (sometimes) proud of being a Colombian, though there’s so much more to Colombia than Shakira (or drugs and submission to USA).

Shakira has always been culturally and politically aware. I first saw Shakira in an interview back in 1998 (yes, 9 years ago) when I was visiting the Dominican Republic. I've never forgotten her because of the insightful and thought-provoking topics she was able to discuss in connection with world-wide issues at such a young age. I thought she'd never make a cross-over into American pop culture because she was too smart and either would be deemed boring or her generation would not be able to relate to her. But, my, what a fan base, generations of all levels!!! While I don't love all her songs, I think the context (lyrics) of her work is brilliant. She's a dynamic role model for all women.

We won't get to see how the ladies did until the fall, but today in Austin, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato took their seats as the new judges on The X Factor. Someone had the foresight of smuggling in a recording device to the Texas auditions and we've got the audio from the ladies' first critique!

And you know what? They sound like old pros!
