orphan black kids from Africa are the new status item. Like the newest Louis Vuitton hangbag. Adopting Americn children just doesn't have the "I am saving the would" status look. When a white person walks around with a black kid from Africa it is really obvious what they have done. A whitechild would just look normal. In 16 years all these African kids are going to be one fucked up mess. Adopt American white children they need homes too!

I absolutely fucking hate it when someome says'why don't they adopt from our own country blah, blah …' Heads up people, ther are no fucking borders when it comes to children! any parentless child no matter where they come from deserves a parent and the country they go to does not matter, they are children of the world first. Please try to wrap your head around that, you know who you are.

Another reason to hate this bitch. Just doing it for publicity. That's all. She should have adopted an American baby in need. I think she's a major bitch, and she looked stuck up at the Emmy's. Glad she lost.

If you don't know anything about adoption then don't say anything at all. I read the comment about latin kids well if you want to stay in south america for a month then go a head cause that is how long you wil be there. Plus Guatemala is closed right now to adoption because of their goverment. I am tring to adopt right now and there is a lot more then you pick a contry and go get your kid. One more thing they say by the year 2010 there will be 42 million kids wanted to be adopted from Africa beacuse of AIDS and poverty. She just saved that child's life!!!!

how about the children from her own fucking country, there is so much poverty in the states with children that have no homes, it's kinda ironic that she lives in the "land of opportunity" yet denies a child it's own opportunity to be happy and get the life they deserve, and brings one from another country instead, it's not a bad thing, its nice that she would give this child a home from Africa, but with so many children here as well, why not help them out?

Why do these celebs turn to 3rd world nations to adopt? Because (in the US) they'd have to pass a test and be deemed worthy of children and they'd fail miserably!…It's not that they wouldn't rather, but for they wouldn't stand a chance in hell!

      119

Adopting in America is extremely difficult. One poster here explained it very well, about not being able to get a young child and the older ones often do have special needs. I would think though that the U.S. has it in it's ability to make foster homes better by checking out the foster parents more thoroughly.

That said, Hawaiian babies HAVE babies. It's a cultural thing. Hawaiians think Hawaii is better than everything and everyone else, yet drugs and teen pregnancy is rampant. You know how many single moms with 2 or 3 kids they have over there that are under 23? TONS more than the mainland. It's like a way of life. Sad, really.

    20. ali says – reply to this

      120

Yes, Hawaii may be paradise to some. I live here and the homeless situation is dire. You have whole families living on the beach, and not because people don't want to work. They do work. Rent is too expensive, and when celebrities come here and offer to buy a home for $10 million when it was originally only worth say $700,00, it drives up the property value of the surrounding homes. Many children live on the beach homeless especially on the Leeward side of Oahu.

      Re: real advocate

      Dear real advocate,

I am a young attorney who works in the juvenile court system in Indiana, and I am very familiar with the requirements. While it is tougher to adopt a child from the foster care system than it is to simply put in an application for a baby from Africa, these are children! They are worth it! While it is difficult, it is not impossible. These children deserve a home too.

No what Hawai'i needs is an extreme educational overhaul. How utterly stupid of you to suggest adoption of Hawaiian children.

Instead why don't you suggest to your readers and celebs adoption of the many American children in foster care who are undesirable to adopt because of their race/ethnicities, disabilities, ages, sex, etc.

      126

why don't one of these celebs adopt ME!

I'm a living descendant of the ancestors who have survived the same torment that they are trying to save these kids from. These white americans who feel so compelled to save an african child need to help the descends of the first drama (slavery) that was never resolved.

What about all the of the african kids right here in brooklyn who could use the aid of someone willing to pay for there schooling.

Or the young black adults who could use a little help starting a business for themselves.

America is sooo quick to stick there noses in someone else's dirty laundry before they want to clean up there own mess.

They never cleaned up the mess of slavery.

And now I ,an African and an American have to suffer still. While they "help" those kids in Africa.

I'm all for helping everyone, everywhere. And I don't mean to sound selfish.

But it's time for American to stop the bullshit.

If they want to "help" Africa.

      Help us Africans right here.

WTF!!!!!!! Adopting from third world countries is very humanitarian. Hawaii is not a third world country. Why don't they adopt from the south. Why don't they foster. Foster kids in the United States need a big hand up. Let's take care of kids in the United States in the foster care system. Kids all over need a boost when they come from families of addicts and convicts then are put into foster care cause no one can take care of them properly. Let's see the stars become foster parents.

Thanks for that Perez though it was sardonic. Kids from Hawai'i need homes too though some people above are ignorant about "Hawaiian." I hope that Hawaiian kids are adopted by Hawaiians so they can be exposed to their culture. Similarly with kids from Africa and China. Every child needs and deserves a home but this fad is so blase and getting old quickly. Sadly it's all for the publicity. Anyway aloha wau ia 'oe e Perez! Someone from Hawai'i loves you.

      135

      Aloha,
As someone who LIVES in Hawaii, I wanted to comment. Those of you who think Hawaii is a paradise, don't be so fooled. Yes, it has gorgeous forests, oceans, and land.
However, it was TAKEN OVER by the US Govt. unfairly and there's still a huge struggle for independence that none will ever see the light of (Look up Kau Inoa for info on the fight for sovereignty).
There are a SCORE of homeless children in Hawaii, the island of OAHU specifically. There are tons of people living dowtown, in waikiki, on the beach, in cars, tents - this is no paradise for them, or rather, no paradise without consequences.
Perez, you are accurate in saying why not Hawaii, as there are many children here who need help and assistance. However, they should be given a hand up alongside their parents, as to stay with their own parents is almost ALWAYS the best situation, unless they are in direct harm.
People who adopt from foreign countries with mass cultural differences are taking a risk, but if it's taking a child out of a war ridden and impoverished nation, this changes the balances on the table. Good for them. It is VERY HARD to adopt in the US, and it's a shame too.
Our entire system for child welfare is backwards and wrong in Hawaii (CHS, Child Protective Services) and I am sure it's not much better on the mainland.

      Mahalo!

Re: Mom of adopted children from AMERICA!

"Before people start saying things about adopting children from the USA, they need to be educated. There are plenty of American children who need homes, and it does not matter if you have given birth prior to adopting or not if you want to adopt an infant. It is far more expensive to adopt outside of the US and more risky as far as health issues and adopting the child later in their life, after they have been orphaned, etc. Two of our children came to us at 2 days old…and they know their birht parents which helps with knowing their identity. "

Actually, most adoptions in the US can typically take upwards to 4-5 years to be finalized. Unless you have a pregnant woman who offers you to adopt, finding a child (typically at the infant age, worse for newborns) here in the US is like finding a needle in a haystack. Besides that, states usually give lengthy amounts of time for biological parents to claim their parental rights, regardless even if they've abandoned that child or are even felons. Whereas adoptions from foreign countries tend to take less than a year's time, usually uncontested and "legit". While potential parents do run into the whole expensive issue of foreign adoptions, the point is getting a child, any child, to add to their brode in their "lifetime".
