Because of my last blog, and all the wonderful feedback I got..it made me think…
This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.
Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the fuck on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them bitch and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It's time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.
I am over this shit. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.
Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named "Justin" in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek's. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist shit anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.
So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.
I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the FUCK out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of "Black History Month". It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!
It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That's why I am done with this shit. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, "One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!"

It's so stupid how all through the threads peeps are continuing with their first, 2'nd and whatever numbers. Y'all know that P-Nasty's space does not always work correctly with comments. While many of you are bitching, she does have a point. Years ago blacks were fighting against "separate but equal" when they knocked down segregation. This is the year 2007, and essentially what black people are after is ironically separate but equal. They want their own leaders, channels, programs, schools, scholarships, and really societies with as little influence and input from whites as possible.
I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the UnitedCaucasianCollege Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens…Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.
Most of you are LARGELY UNINFORMED, for people who say why don't we have a white channel, ummm we DO, its called, CMT, NBC, CBS AND ABC. Look at the sitcoms, shows and programs on the channel and tell me what it reflects. BET is more of a cultural channel pertaining to black culture. Shows that appear on BET would have no other home if the channel did not exist. The more networks appealing to different cultures/ethnicities = the better.

Oddly enough, I agree with her. There is a ton of discrimination in the opposite direction these days. My white son is picked on at school for being "white". What happened to equality… not superiority… I have several black friends who'd agree with her (and me) too. Black people having pride in themselves and demanding equal rights and respect has turned into a power struggle and domination. What people need to realize is that we're fighting a class war, not race. The poor are being discriminated against, not because of the color of their skin, but because of how much money they make, what kind of car they drive, what area of town they live in. If we don't dress like Paris Hilton or Brody Jenner, then we're not cool. If we don't drive the newest, latest car, then we're not cool. We pay athlete's millions upon millions of dollars and the people taking care of our children in daycare get minimum wage… It's all warped.

Altho she rambled on a bit much, I agree with her. Why all the seperation. Why not just learn about what happened in America in every race.
It's true, if we had college grants just for whites or a white history month, or a white tv channel, a white version of the NAACP, a white Miss America pageant only…it would be called racist.
Keeping seperation like this assures that progress is not made. I too feel bad for the way some races were treated in the past, and I would never forget it happened. But, it also happened way before I was alive.
I agree racism still exists in places, but so does many other "isms".
And it will continue to do so as long as people continue seperating themselves and thinking they need those different treatments and such.

I think many of the readers on here automatically assume that if Perez posts something without actually stating his opinion beforehand that he obviously will talk shit so many of you try to beat him to the punch by talking the shit yourselves, even if you're not even sure what you're talking about.
With that being said, many of you said Ms. Curry's comments were "ignorant" and that she's a "cunt." Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions so talk all the shit you want, but I think she just said what everyone else thinks. Yes, even the "black people." I'm the first to see the world is not equal and it NEVER will be, but a person's skin color is just ONE of the GINORMOUS list of characteristics people discriminate for. None of us today have had to suffer like our ancestors did and I think it's hypocritical when so many of us try to express the segregation and discrimincation horrors that people we never even knew may have felt.

Whether black people like it or not this is the opinion that many other races have towards black people. I have black friends who fully admit to me that they use the race card to get what they want in everyday situations. I have one friend who was getting messed about by an electrical outlet store regarding her tv so she told them that they were just treating her that way because she was black!! they ha a brand new tv delivered the same day to her door free of charge!! I had a laptop problem with the same company and it took six months to get them to fix it! I understand racism is still out there, I am not niave but it is not just against black people. I am 2nd generation irish, grew up in London, now living in Scotland and I come across all types of ignorance in my job and college as scottish people tend to hate the english. I cannot even be bothered explaining that there is not one ounce of English blood in my body to them as I feel I am better than that and I know who I am. Such a shame that she would say something so ignorant when it was a black woman who gave her her big break. Black History month is simply a way to celebarate the rich history of black Americans because with the execpetion of Harriot Tubman and Martin Luther King,and slavery black history is really not acknowleged and taught as a part of American History. And BET is just an entertainment channel, run by white people, with a VERY one-sided depiction of black culture. If you don't like it, don't watch it. If you don't want to celebrate black history month don't celebrate it. But do respect people's culture and differences and acknowledge them. Black history month is a part of black culture and black people have a right celebrate it as loudly or quietly as they please.
And lastly, anyone who feels the need to say out loud that they are not racist is indeed racist. I'm not suprised that she said this and that people agree. The US is one of the most racist countries in the world and it's a damn shame.

It isn't as much about one group having special rights as much as a group purposely separating themselves from the rest of society. While she didn't speak eloquently, she is completely right. Asking for equal rights means that we should be considered EQUAL. I would be completely opposed to a WET, or a HET (hispanic, if you didn't pick up on that), or for that matter, a BET. There can be channels that appeal to certain audiences, but to title that channel "Black ET" is offensive. I have been called a "white girl" and "cracka" (I'm from Baltimore) and what I find ridiculous is how racist that is but how people don't find it offensive. I AM ITALIAN, MY FAMILY WASN'T EVEN IN AMERICA WHEN SLAVERY HAPPENED!!! If you are going to lump me in with the racist people from Jena, then you are ignorant, no matter what race you are.

i agree with some points. i think that we should try to not place such importance on race..positive or negative attention just promotes segregation. but i dont think we should ever forget the evil that came from racism towards any race, creed or sexual orientation!

Ummmmmm in my school every month was white history month. That is all we learned about, we did a week about black history in February or March but that was it. How about learning real history such as Greeks, romans, India, China etc. No wonder Americans are so stupid.

Every day is White History Month. Every channel is White Entertainment Television. I don't get what's so wrong with BET. It's not like it's a channel that bashes us whites. Let blacks have a channel. We have lots. MTV Tres is for latinos. Why is no one complaining about that and Univision and Telemundo. Let's open our minds people. Come on. You're making me embarrassed. My husband is a minority. He had a FAR FAR FAR more privileged childhood than I did! I have worked my ass off to get where I'm at yet he gets scholarships and job offers left and right based on his "diversity." As a member of the media, I know for a fact (check your statistics…a black professor I know has done the research) that blacks are OVER REPRESENTED on television and in shows compared to their population in the US. There are no white channels as someone pointed out. Yes, there are a LOT of white people on TV, but that's probably because more than 70% of the country is white! I agree that there was a time in this country when blacks deserved greater protections, etc., but that time has passed. Anyone in this country can do ANYTHING regardless of race or gender. I'm not saying it's not going to be difficult, but that's life. No special treatment.
