I did not see Jake but Rufus was awful. I love him but was majorly dissapointed because he seemed so wasted. He could note carry a tune in a fake Prada and he was slurring the whole time. I felt jipped.

    40. Freddy says – reply to this

      40

Wow - not that is newsworthy. Rufus, a gay Canadian with a German boyfriend, attracts a large gay male following - so this is interesting. Jake and Rufus could be a great couple - both hot as hell. Sexy too.

This was a concert for charity, I bet there were many more stars.

On Sunday, September 23, music enthusiasts can enjoy a special evening with singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright as he performs his acclaimed personal tribute to legendary icon Judy Garland. Following his acclaimed 2006 tribute to Judy Garland's 1961 Carnegie Hall concert, Wainwright will be performing her famous set at the Hollywood Bowl accompanied by a handpicked quartet and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra at the landmark venue in Los Angeles. An avid philanthropist, Wainwright has generously donated premium seats for this performance and will graciously host a select number of ticket holders at a private reception following the concert. All proceeds from these ticket sales will directly benefit Project Angel Food, whose only mission is to deliver nutritious food to people debilitated by HIV/AIDS and other serious illnesses throughout Los Angeles County.

    46. Tim says – reply to this

      46

I agree that Rufus was god-awful. I don't know if he was wasted or not — the slurring may have been in tribute to Judy Garland, but, man, he could not sing on pitch, couldn't get through a single song without cracking, and didn't have any of the high notes.

I love his cds, but his live singing was a HUGE disappointment.

He likes Judy Garland? Then he really must be a friend of Dorothy.

Rufus was a disappointment at the bowl last night. It's as if he forgot Judy and made it a Rufus show.
Martha Wainwright's "Stormy Weather" on the ohter hand was mermerizing.

      56

Rufus gave perhaps the worst live performance I have ever seen, and that's not only my opinion, but shared by others at the Bowl last night. His thin, off-key and nasal voice was no match (in any sense) for Judy's powerhouse arrangements and romantic ballads. He forgot the words, cracked notes, failed to hit sustained, climatic finishes, was off-pitch and off-center. He made several disparaging comments about Judy (wasn't this concert supposed to be a homage?) and rewrote history to suit his agenda. His drag perf of "Get Happy" was horrific and the show overall was a trainwreck. The highlight of the show was Lorna Luft who stole the show — she was everything that Rufus was not…professional, vocally superb, confident, rehearsed, commanded the stage and the audience, and she, unlike Rufus, was equal to the material…and she powerfully connected with the audience in a way Rufus failed to do and got the biggest ovation of the evening. I'm sure it was not lost on him. Even his sister Martha's so-so "Stormy Weather" got a bigger hand and positive reaction than one of his numbers. If Anna Nichole was alive and gave a Judy Garland concert, this gives you some idea of what was inflicted on the audience at The Hollywood Bowl last night.
