Quote Of The Day

“Everyone in this room would agree that people in this country were misled in terms of the rationale of this war. I’ve never understood why [invading Iraq] was so high on the administration’s agenda when terrorism was going on in Afghanistan and Pakistan and that [Iraq] had no true connection with al Qaeda.”
- Katie Couric, speaking at the National Press Club on Tuesday evening

"Doubt It - Since when did we STOP looking for OBL?"
======
Max — I would guess we tapered off when Bush pulled our troops back and sent in contractors who failed to nab him early in Afghanistan. The last Bush said anything about it, about a year ago, he claimed Osama wasn't important. I was stunned as was much of the world, I would imagine. Since he said it at a public press conference and there was a great deal of public commentary afterwards, I'm surprised you don't recall the incident.

Next your going to Quote Xenu or Cobra Commander.
Doubt it - Tapering troops in the region and outright "Quitting" are VASTLY different are they not? I too would concur that in light of OBL being relegated to hiding, he's not too much of a threat. I do not agree he is NO threat, but not nearly as much so were he freely moving about.
Max Sawdust!
Oh, Koolade Kati I don't think that you can truly support your first statement. There was quite a lot of movement along the borders before we went in. Could it just possibly be that all the other complicit muslim nations allowed Iraq to place their weapons for safe keeping? And can you deny that massive "cleansing" killings were taking place with poision gassses inside Iraq carried out by Saddam's henchmen, not to mention the rape rooms and prisons. Deny all you want Kati, it won't make your statements any more true or deflect Saddam's evil onto Bush as much as you would wish. Do you want a burkha along with that koolade Kati?
everyone doesnt agree on that coment…sorry katie.
Re: I HATE CONSPIRACY THEORY MORONS –
The only reason you hate conspiracy theory "morons" is because you are afraid, very afraid. The ego hates to admit to itself that one's life held beliefs are wrong. YOU my friend are in denial. Do a little research on your own: Zeitgeist, Loose Change, Andrew Gage, Architect. 911 WAS A FARCE. It was a controlled demolition, an inside job–look back on history: it is history repeating yourself. YOU, I'm sorry to say, are the blind obedient, never question authority MORON that the govt. wants as its people. WAKE UP and stop being so naive. IT IS NOT A CONSPIRACY THEORY, IT IS NOW MAINSTREAM THOUGHT.
I read the Carter Doctrine and the Reagan Corollary to the Carter Doctrine. I get that we needed a show of force in the Persian Gulf to keep out the Soviets. What I don't get is how it applies to the Iraq war. It is one thing to have a show of force, and something entirely different when starting a war.
Bush said we had to get Saddam and the WOMD. Bush said we had to protect our country after 9/11 because OBL attacked us here at home.
What does the Carter Doctrine, and Saddam have to do with OBL and 9/11????
What I do get is Iraq is suffering because of continued occupation. Our soldiers and their people are dying everyday. What progress has been made? When will the Iraqi government pull it together and take over so we can pull out the troops???? Is this going to go on forever? To what end and to what cost??? And Maximus, I make light of your screen name because while I believe you wish to make some pertinent points, it is your snarky liberal bashing I take issue with. You only seem to be civil when you are called out.
How F'in stupid is this clown. Maybe when they cancel her, she will disappear like Dan did. She's not ever good looking anymore. What a idiot.
she is such a total phoney asshole!!!! why didn't she say someyhing sooner? i hope the bitch gets fired because of her piss poor ratings! loser!
Re: MAXIMUS SAWDUST 4 BRAINS – And I thank you for actually reading said doctrines, but it went WELL BEYOND the USSR. The Carter Doctrine now covers much of the planet. In addition to protecting the oil of the Gulf, Centcom forces have also assumed responsibility for the protection of energy supplies in Central Asia and the Caspian region. At the same time, forces from the European Command are helping to protect oil pipelines in the Republic of Georgia and oil-rich waters off the coast of Africa. Forces from the Pacific Command guard the oil lanes of the South China Sea. And troops from the Southern Command are helping to protect pipelines in Colombia.
Blaming GWB all alone for Americas dependence on oil and need to defend it is silly and divisive.
Also I don't feel calling Kati or her network superlibby in the least snarky or in any way a bash, just pointing out the obvious.
Max Sawdust!
Cont-
The globalization of the Carter Doctrine began in the mid-1990s, when the Clinton Administration determined that the Caspian Sea basin-until 1992 under the effective control of the Soviet Union-could become a major source of oil for the United States and its allies, thereby helping to lessen U.S. dependence on the ever-turbulent Persian Gulf. The newly independent states of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan were eager to sell their petroleum wealth to the West, but they lacked a conduit for exports. At that time, all existing pipelines from the (landlocked) Caspian passed through Russia and also faced serious challenges from ethnic minorities and internal opposition movements. To safeguard the future flow of Caspian oil, Clinton agreed to assist in the construction of a new oil pipeline from Baku in Azerbaijan through Georgia to Ceyhan in Turkey (thus bypassing Russia) and to help these states enhance their military capacity.

Re: steff – Stef - While what you say sounds good in theory none of us REALLY knows what Saddam did in his free time, or who he kept in touch with. Now then do we? Co conspirators rarely admit to being co-conspirators, and more often than not disavow any knowledge of what the other party was up to. You can see this on court TV all day.
What we DO KNOW is that Saddam Hussein WAS a threat to the ENTIRE REGION, and more importantly the flow of oil from said region. It was widely believed back to the Clinton Administration that he indeed still had WMD. Even after gassing the Kurds. Not to mention the Cease Fire he broke, and the 16 some broken resolutions. Again I would IMPLORE you Stef to as you said "read a book" read the Carter Doctrine and Reagan Corrolary. The Persian Gulf Region is CRITICAL to the WORLDS oil supply.
Max Sawdust!
YO! Katie! pull your head out of dick cheney's asshole!
katie couric is a MORON!!!
Bush just HAD to avenge HIS father for not taking Saddam out during the FIRST Gulf War! The krazy kowboy klown! Now we are stuck in Iraq, thousands of Americans killed, HUNDREDS of billions lost, the country ruined and now it IS a place the extremists can call home! Nice job asshole! Of course we can't leave, we have opened the entire country for Al Qaeda to use at will. Somebody needs to be held accountable for shiteous prosecution of this war, but being America, fingers will be pointed but no one will be responsible!
Lydia - Had Saddam cut off the flow of oil, you'd be sitting in line to fill your suv for hours and hours, THEN you would pay WAAAAY more than the 2.81 a gallon you pay now.
At which time you would have pissed and moaned that the as you put it "krazy kowboy klown" didn't protect the worlds oil interests.
Exactly how many CEASE FIRE AGREEMENTS do YOU feel should have to be broken before punishing the country or dictator in question. How many resolutions? What 20 - 30?
The left seems to live and die by 10 second sound bites, again as I have said 100 times today READ AND UNDERSTAND THE CARTER DOCTRINE AND REAGAN CORROLARY DOCTRINE. American politicians have understood since WWII the importance of a secure Persian Gulf Region, why can't todays left leaners?
Max Sawdust!
She said all this at a conference that she flew to on a OIL GUZZLING private jet. After she was picked up by a LIMO for one occupant, then she took that Limo back to her PRIVATE JET. All to get home to her GIANT not so efficient home. What would she be saying if the OIL stopped flowing. She'd be calling GWB every name in the book for not protecting the worlds oil…..
Re: Some dude – PERFECT!!!!!!!
Speak for yourself, lady.
Re: J
I had been hearing about the "inside job of 9/11" but up till now never looked into any of it. I decided to watch Loose Change. Very compelling and scary as hell - but still don't know why our government would go to those great lengths - for what? To scare us into going into war?
Can you give me the condensed version of wersion OF WHY PLEASE?
First of all, have any of you Bush babies been listening at all? George Bush is a complete Dumbass that can't hold an intelligent conversation. He manages to screw up speeches written for him. I guess I'm a liberal if I don't believe in this mindless war and I don't believe in spying on your own citizens and I don't believe in sending billions of dollars out of this country to help countries that wouldn't return the favor. When we have homeless and hungry people in this country, that don't have health care because the leaders of our country doesn't care. A so -called "free" country , hardly. People wake up, GWB doesn't care about any of you. He's the worst President in history. He's getting richer spilling the blood of innocent men, women, and children. How can any of you still support him and sleep at night. Whoever wins in 2008 will have to suffer under the weight of the mess this fool has created. God help us all!!
This stupid ignorant liberal bitch. Just goes to show how much of a true journalist she is not. She's a pawn of the left wing.
yay # 71!!!!!!
Her blank stare w/an eery smile looks satanic >>
Shocking that all of the gay male bloggers out there are liberal (no offense - love em all and love their gossip) but they're giving you folks one side of the story. Feel free to hate Bush for being against gay marriage and abortion. I hate that too, but support our country's right to prevent another 9/11. Maybe Iraq wasn't the culprit then, but we have every right to be there and know what's going on. I sleep soundly at night because we are.
MAX MAX MAX-First, I don't drive an SUV, my car gets 38 MPH. Second, whether he or any other leader wants to withhold oil or any other commodity is NOT the business of America. We have for over 100 years gone and extorted whatever resources we felt we needed because we felt we had the power & right to take what we wanted no matter the outcome. We are viewed as the bullies of the world even by our allies. Who's going to try Bush for the war crimes we have perpetrated? The military kills innocent civilians and children and no one is held responsible! Our leaders are HYPOCTITES! 9/11 and the other attacks against America are a DIRECT result of America's interference in the governments, economies and politics especially in the Middle East since the 1920's. The Shah of Iran, The Marcos' of the Philippines to name a couple. The CIA doing covert operations, what would YOUR reaction be if some other government attempted to alter our government or fix elections? The world is sick to death of this attitude in America and this is just the beginning, they will make us pay & pay for our arrogance!
Re: Max Sawdust! – 299 - You were absent for some time from this site - did you finally have the lobotomy? Maybe not, since you seem to have retained your "googling" skills.
Her career is over. Who really cares about her opinion on anything by now? Spoken like a true leftist, there's no surprise ratings tank on her shows.
Us regular folks are sick and tired of the same tired antics shoved in our faces everyday. She needs to be a real journalist and argue BOTH sides of issues rather than playing the popularity games.
Will someone tell this dim bulb that the manure she is shoveling is why no one is watching her ass on TV!
First off, I am not condoning any actions made by president bush, but I would like to point out to a previous comment that stated, " bush literally pushed away the warning signs" is not exactly accurate. While you can push part of the blame on him, the blame can be spread across all parties, colors, creeds, etc. There is no one person to blame. Keep in mind that the attack was indeed in SEPTEMBER of his first year as president, so he had only been in office a matter of months. Before that Clinton( a democrat) was in power. Also, before we make off the cuff , sometimes ignorant comments about Iraq, just ask yourself how you would feel if you were one of the soldiers in Iraq that is gladly fighting for YOU and eating an MRE everday, fighting with 80 pounds of gear on when the temperature is 130( that's how hot it is in Iraq) , and being away from your family for atleast a year. It wouldn't feel good to not have the support of the people you put your life on the line for day after day ( IED's exploding as you drive down the street, etc). Next time, before anyone makes any comments about Iraq, take a second to think about the soldiers who don't have the luxury of reading perezhilton everyday while they relax in the comfort of their own home.
Some of the people leaving comments are still so stupid and ignorant. How many more people have to die because of this pointless war!?!
SOOOOOOOOO TRUE SO TRUE SO TRUE SO TRUE!!!!!!! YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!
oh and to the dumb-ass republicans….. TAKE A CLASS OR SOMETHING!!!!!!
Re: Lydia –
Couldn't agree more!
The war is about OIL!!!! America wants to "help" Iraq out so they can progress faster, but we all know that its about the OIL! If we help them out and we start to control some of thier land and have political figures over there then we get to control it! It's all very simple i dont see y no one see's this! Politics dont get involved into anything unless its going to bring them $$$ or is going to be better for the nation as long as it doesnt burn a hole in thier pockets!
HELLO!!!! Have we forgotten why we are over there??? Its called SEPT. 11!!! Use your brains people.
"I hate that too, but support our country’s right to prevent another 9/11. "
========
I do want us to prevent another 9/11. And I've watched Bush destroy our international credibility, deplete our troops and resources, leave our borders so wide open for attack it's ridiculous, and divide our populace into bickering idiots in the meanwhile. We are so much more at risk than when the attack first happened. The best way to prevent another 9/11 is for us to get Yosemite Sam out of The White House and put in a true stateman. Even still, it will be a generation or more before we might regain some of the reputation we had before Bush and his ignorant supporters starting destroying our nation.
And, yet again, for the stupid who STILL haven't heard, IRAQ DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH 911. No one ever said they did, including our president.
Fuck that cunt Katie Curic. The War in Iraq is based on oil primarily. If Curic doesn't like the war she should stop using thousands and thousands of dollars worth of electricity to air and film her shows so we won't need to invade another country for the oil. Fucking cunt needs to keep her mouth shut …..
We do not support the troops by letting politicians use them up in needless wars. We support the troops by questioning every move the politicians make and by firing the politicians if they are incompetent, as Bush is. It is our duty as citizens in a democracy to do this. I don't know what kind of clowns would think letting soldiers be misused and abused is "supporting our troops." That's ridiculous and cowardly.
Re: Heather –
Love, do some reading, Iraq wasn't involved in 9/11. Osama is in Afghanistan NOT Iraq. Not one of the terrorists involved in 9/11 was even from Iraq, the majority were Saudi, why didn't Bush invade Saudi Arabia?
The excuse for invading Iraq was weapons of mass destruction, they never existed. The next excuse was regime change, the people of Iraq were better off before the invasion, get your head out of the sand and realise you've been lied to.
Bush is no better than Saddam.
The rest of the world woke up long ago.
I never knew Katie Couric had a brain?!?! No wonder her show is getting canceled. America can only handle "common sense" for a short while. Look what happened to Aaron Brown.
go katie!!
Great! Now we have to listen to the political ramblings of a bunch of scared foreigners who we've saved numerous times throughout history. They should be thankful for the intelligence we provide them on a daily basis. We KNOW that Iraq had WMD. They used them on the Kurds. They refused to prove the destruction of their WMDS as per the treaty and Clinton let them slide the entire time he was in office. Clinton also refused to take Osama when he was handed to him on a platter. Remember the first WTC bombing? What was Clinton's response? Apparently it didn't work because the second attack was all planned during the Clinton administration. How about the embassy bombings and USS Cole? We were under attack all over the world during the Clinton administration and he failed to respond to any of it. Who knows what would have happened if President Bush hadn't responded after the second WTC attack.
As for Curic, doesn't she know that we did go into Afghanistan and Pakistan before Iraq? Why didn't any of the liberal media call her on that?
Always loved Katie. This is the first of several oil wars we will endure. This administration is Fascist (corporatism) and has done serious damage to the country. Republicans won't be in the White house for years to come. Good
Re: Kim – Are you kidding me. Americans are dying over there everyday because of al Qaeda.
In 2002 Bush quoted a report by the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) that supposedly said Iraq was just about to develop nuclear weapons citing this as a reason for invading Iraq. The IAEA says that this report did not exist, here's a quote from them "Based on all credible information to date, the IAEA has found no indication of Iraq having achieved its program goal of producing nuclear weapons or of Iraq having retained a physical capability for the production of weapon-useable nuclear material or having clandestinely obtained such material.
The US has created more world problems than it's ever tried to cure.
How did Osama get the knowledge and weapons to become a terrorist in the first place? Why are there innocent Iraqi women and children dying on a daily basis and being called "collateral damage" to make it sound less horrific? Before you start to cure the world of all it's ills, take a look in your own backyard. The world saw your poor during Katrina.
#33: you are a huge idiot. study up before you speak. what about the fact that Clinton and the demo-rats let Osama go when they had him right under their target?
haha…Now I am a Jew hater? You DARE say Muslims suck…bitch.
I fucking hope someone in Your family dies in IRAQ
So I guess you dont mind another country comming in and doing the same in US soil…b/c a lot of countries consider America to be terroists. So America can invade another country but the other country cant do the same?

As in Iraq, democratic elections have produced an Islamic government at odds with the US and its plans. So while Bush pushes for elections as a cover for his imperialism, he is blind to the dangers of religious populism in the Middle East. Not only that, he continually undermines any moderate and secular forces in the region by acting domineeringly himself or by allowing US client regimes to do so (particularly Israel). As a result, the influence of fundamentalist parties has increased, as has terrorism.

Re: COCO – Since you cut and paste those quotes, I'll cut and paste my previous reply to you on the Dan Rather thread.
I suggest you read up on the October Surprise of 1980 to find out exactly how Saddam got those chemicals. Bush41 treasonously went behind sitting Pres Carter and gave Iran weapons for hostages to steal the election for Reagan. Reagan/Bush then gave weapons to Iraq to even out the war, since Saddam was a CIA asset. The weapons sales continued with Iran. Remember the Iran/Contra hearings? Which were bought with drug money funneled into Los Angeles. Read Gary Webb’s articles on the CIA and you’ll realize the true crack epidemic was to pay for Reagan/Bush’s illegal wars, etc. Wake up! Bush41 even started cutting the military so it would be easier for companies like Halliburton to profit from war without the Iran/Contra footprints. Even the first Iraq war a ruse for war-profiteers.
Re: katie – It's great you are Canadian, but you might want to read up on the North American Union. NAU. The elite want to steal that status from you as well as your natural resources. In other words, America will be entitled to more of your oil than Canada. Which would force Canada to import despite those vast oil sands. Something is up with the SPP and NAU and free trade has never benefitted the common man.
Re: val – Psst….You can't steal the oil, if the residents are watching. You have to give them something to do. Both British and US troops have been caught in Muslim clothes in cars filled with explosives. Bush is trying to create chaos not resolve it.
Re: Karma – PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PROVIDE A LINK to these incredulous allegations you make. I'm sure you will link me to the Anarchist website …huh?
Max Sawdust!
Uh, gee Katie- thanks for telling me what I think- I am incapable of thinking for myself….
Stupid twat- and you wonder why we don't watch your newscast?
I find it amazing that people state that AQ had nothing to do with Iraq? Were any of you there? How many of you have inside knowledge of that fact? Basically you are reading a liberal talking point with NO factual basis!
I can tell you one thing though, AQ is there now and we are OWNING them, so shut the fuck up you uneducated liberal pukes!
Re: Heather – I didn't know people as stupid as you actually existed.
It is a shame you are ignorant of recent US history, but assuming it would only be reported an anarchist site is even a more blatant example. Everything I posted was reported on the big three networks when it happened or within the major newspapers. There were Congressional investigations into it all, which might be boring to some help reveal quite a bit. Bush41's presidential pardons and Congressional docs help point out quite a bit, Ollie North even has a career because of Iran/Contra. PBS/Frontline did several reports on the first Iraq ruse, as well as the October Surprise. On their reports about the first Iraq ruse, they showed all the financial moves Bush41's Admin made, in their 'blind trust' accounts to profit from the war. They showed their tax returns, even had audio tape of Bush 41's intentions, etc. Research for yourself, Gary Webb, Robert Perry, October Surprise, Iran/Contra, fake incubator baby story of the first Iraq war, etc. Maybe you were still a twinkle in Daddy's eye when this was happening, but it played out on the major media day and night for years. It took eight years for the Independent Counsel's office to investigate Iran/Contra…which has ties to all the rest I posted. Of course, I'm sure you aren't so naive as to not understand the implications of Bush43's Executive Order 13233, shortly after 9/11. Since, Bush wanted to go into Iraq, he needed to reclassify the papers and policy that brought America to Iraq in the first place.
Max…Here is one more name to add to your list, April Gillespie, the US diplomat that essentially lied to Saddam. Making him think that the US wouldn't interfer with his invasion of Kuwait. You might want to check out what ZBigniew Brzenziski and the current Sec of Def Gates (within his book) have to say about al Qaeda. They are our creation. When does the CIA let go of assets? If Bush is so afraid of al Qaeda why did he buy almost 100,000 acres in Paraguay, if al Qaeda is in the region? Who knows, maybe they are clearing dissent? Since his land sits on 3 separate countries aquafer. He who owns the land, owns the water.
Re: Karma – - All well and good, where is that LINK? To proof of US soldiers dressed as "insurgents"……..I'll wait.
I find it amusing that you link Presidents 41 and 43 but forget completely about 42 and all the death and corruption follwing him.Your rhetoric smells like someone who knows about/believes in things such as the NWO/Illuminati. Yet you also act as if ANY modern President was better than his predecessor or his succesor. They all came and will continue to come from the same barrel of apples.
Nice try about the age bit, I was THERE for the first Gulf War.
Max Sawdust!
Hey Boo Boo, now we know why her ratings are almost as low as the polls for the Democratic controlled Congress…Ignorant liberals who bring nothing to table.
Re: Max Sawdust! – What part of the mainstream media, big three networks, major newpapers, Congressional Hearings and documents, and Bush 41 Presidential pardons, and Executive Orders, PBS/Frontline, are you having difficulty with? Those are legitimate sources not affliated with the anarchist sites, you obsessively throw out as an insult with each post. Since, it seems to have clouded your reading comprehension, I will remind you that this discussion is about Iraq and what got us there. 42 had no participation in those events. However, if you would like to my issues with him. They run along the lines of NAFTA and giving National Parks to the UN, having US troops under a foreign commander. Using the FBI and IRS to investigate political enemies. Continuing the downsizing of the military, and utilizing Halliburton in Kosovo, as a result of profiteering downsizing that Bush 41 planned. Real complaints…..nothing along the lame Rep lines of lying about a blow job.
Re: Max Sawdust! – Psst….Zbigniew Brzenziski is from the Carter Admin. So, really I didn't need to post my views about Clinton, but it was obvious from your assumptions that you needed more than just Zbig's name to make the connection about being able to see clearly.
No matter what letter is after their name. It is your civic duty as a US citizen to be informed. Save the partisan stuff for someone else.
Re: Karma – Nowhere in the article you linked did it say:
1. There were any Americans involved.
Second of all -
2. Your "reliable source" is in fact an ANONYMOUS "Iraqi Official" uh huh Baghdad Bob no less. "There are no US troops in Iraq"…..
Also I LOOOVE the way you cut and pasted the portion of the story you wish to Emphasize EXCEPT YOU LEFT OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART
This part - But the Iraqi official, who spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity, said their arrests stemmed from an incident earlier in the day.
And since when did "special ops" become illegal?
Again why no mention of Pres #42 when he is JUST AS GUILTY AS 41 or 43? Yes because it would not be toeing your party line I know I know. You come off as a "Patriot" except you have still chosen a "side" instead of choosing America.
Max Sawdust!
Well you posted again before I could.
But 42 NOT LINKED TO IRAQ - Your joking right? His ENTIRE Cabinet and him were all for kicking Saddams door down. He just didn't have the balls, they were busy.

Re: Gore was President – fuck you jerk wad!!!
She`s still hot
Since when did our intelligence branch start working with Katie Couric? This woman needs keep her liberal opinions to herself…that's just what they are: OPINIONS. She KNOWS FOR A FACT that there is not a single Al-Queda affiliate in Iraq?! Thank God that woman is losing network ratings! Liberals: You HONESTLY believe that we invaded Iraq on a whim with ABSOLUTELY NO correlation to the terrorists? Read your history books–in World War II–Japan attacked us, we declared war on Hitler. THINK! I'm not supporting everything that has happened in the last 7 years, but don't just hate Bush and his adminstration because it's trendy…do some research.
