Finally!
A sprinkle of good news for Britney Spears amidst the torrential downpour of unpleasantness.
The mother of two, who lost custody of her two children earlier this week, was granted a valid California drivers license on Tuesday.
Until now, Britney has been driving illegally in Los Angeles.
Spears picked up her license yesterday at the DMV office in Van Nuys. Though it is only a temporary paper license, it is valid until a permanent one is mailed.

Now maybe I'm missing something, but didn't the whole thing about her not having a license come to light with her hit and run? Her court date is sometime this month, and I wouldn't be surprised if her new precious California license will be suspended after that.
People pass a lot of judgement, but I'm inclined to think her non-compliance with recent court orders simply had a great deal to do with her own realization that two kids was too much, too soon, far less than it might have to do with any actual drug use. There is perhaps no one who has been chewed up and spit out by us all more than Britney, and I applaud her self-awareness in handing over the tots to someone better able to give them the care they deserve. That move is certainly infinitely more mature and productive than labeling Sean and Jayden "beautiful mistaks". The two of them may be able to look back on their mother's decision to part with them as a difficult and honest move, one that took a great deal of self-awareness, but how could they ever look at Sarah's insult as anything other than mean-spirited, vitriolic psychosis?

I can't believe they have to mail her permanent license. I live in a SMALL Georgia town and our DMV makes the actual license on site & you get it before you leave. Van Nuys needs to update their DMV dept.
It's so sad. Britney might not be the best mother, but she was really trying! Kevin is just a starfucker, who never should have had kids with her. She deserves much better and right now she deserves all the support she can get! I hope there is some good people there, to help her and advice her in the right direction. It will only get worse if she doesn't get help now! Who knows what she will do, next. Britney you are in my prayers.

She's never had a high I.Q., in fact she's at least mildly retarded and totally self centered. She's had soooo many second chances and she THINKS she can do whatever she wants. I am glad someone is finally thinking about and taking care of the kids. I also think Federline was the sane one the whole time and her P.R. people made him look like a money grubber. I'm sick of her but she does need help–problem is, you can't help someone unless they really want to help themselves. I'd think her kids would be motivation enough but I guess not.

Ummm, that is part of the addiction cycle……it's not that she loves Cocaine more than her kids….her addiction causes her to crave the drug ….therefore she is obsessive about it. she is under the "control" of the drugs she uses and cannot "help" it. If she could get in a good rehab program ( not one of those "fake" rehabs like promises but a REAL rehab program) we might see a big change in her behavior. Britney needs Drug Rehab……….REHAB works I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE !!!! People who have never been a slave to a drug addiction could NEVER truly understand the living HELL addiction is. Not where I live they don't. I live in a SMALL, SMALL town in GA and they process your license "on the spot" here. They also process the license on the spot in ATLANTA. You ALWAYS get the actual plastic laminated card w/ the picture on it before you leave the DMV . I haven't see a facility that that gives that temporary paper license since the late 1980's. I even ask relatives in other states & they confirmed that they always get their license on the spot as well. Maybe Perez is misinformed.. (or full of crap). Someone should call the Van Nuys DMV and ask them?????? Maybe I will (if I can find the number).

I called the 800 # for the CA DMV & in Van Nuys they DO issue a 60 day temporary license & you get your permanent license through the mail. California ( or Van Nuys ) must not be set up to make a license on site like we are in GA.

Jan Mendoza here. The PIO at DMV that was quoted in the US Weekly Magazine. I have to say…what a busy last two days I've had! Anyway.. we manufacture our DLs offsight at another facility. You get a paper temporary printout proving you are a licensed driver in CA. You get your permanent one in the mail in a couple of weeks. Our licenses are encrypted with all kinds of coding, symbols that you can only see with a blacklight, a magnetic strip with information, etc.. Its very high-tech, and not your ordinary laminated license. Its something that just can't be printed out at one of our field offices. Hope this clears up the confusion.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me why anyone should have an ounce of compassion for this dumbass? The judge stated IN PLAIN ENGLISH what she had to do to keep custody of her kids. She CHOSE not to do it. Again, for those who are a little slow on this board—-SHE CHOSE NOT TO DO WHAT SHE HAD BEEN LEGALLY ORDERED TO DO. And now she is suffering the consequences. That's how life works people. Why anyone would feel sorry for her is beyond me.
If she has some substance abuse issues, I do hope she gets the help she needs. If she has some mental problems, again, I hope she gets the help she needs. But part of being a FIT MOTHER is understanding how the world works and doing what you're supposed to. How can her children learn anything from her when she pays absolutely no attention to anyone and doesn't have any respect for the rule of law?

I agree that she is one messed up individual & she is in need of SERIOUS help BUT the fact remains …there is a REASON for the way she behaves and someone needs to care enough about her to get to the "root" of her problems. Even if your child "said" they wanted you out of their life could you just turn your back on your own flesh & blood ???? Especially when she so obviously needs help? This whole drivers license thing is ridiculous. It's the LEAST of her problems. She obviously had a valid Louisiana license or she wouldn't have gotten a California one so quickly. So Perez, she DID have a valid license, just not a California one. Big fucking deal. Going to the DMV sucks, she probably just kept putting it off, not realizing her Louisiana license wasn't good enough. However, when the judge told her 2 weeks ago to go get a CA license, she should have done it then.
