The Cuban-American actress has been a busy bee all around NYC promoting her new flick, We Own The Night, and though she denied those pregnancy rumors during her Tuesday visit to TRL, she did tell Latina magazine (in their Nov. cover story interview) what kind of mami she’ll be, if she had a daughter:

“I would teach her [my daughter] Spanish. But first, I’d study up on mine—it’s Spanglish and very improper. I’m not sure what I would teach her about culture. That’s probably why I don’t have kids yet. I feel like I need to go to Cuba first—whether Castro is in power or not—and figure out some stuff on my own. I guess it would be fun to go with my daughter and find out together.”

Now that's a well-thought out statement.

FilmMaker78 - Totally agree… it's hard to feel close to your "raices" when you're only HALF Hispanic. I should know. Especially when that other half isn't very attached to their own heritage like Jessica's father, who is like a third generation Mexican-American. In my case my mother is Dominican, my father was French… I'm a first generation American, but because my mother is very attached to her Dominican heritage, I naturally am as well but only to a certain degree. She did not push "being Hispanic" on me by any means since I grew up eating hamburgers, pizza, and mac & cheese instead of arroz con habichuelas. Today I don't completely fit in with being "latina", but I still love my heritage on BOTH sides. When you have older parents who immigrated back in the 50s and 60s like me, they totally push being American first and foremost anyway, so I feel AMERICAN and very proud of that. Nowadays I don't see that as being the case much and it's divisive.

I say leave Jessica alone…. let her be what she wants to be. And BRAVO to Eva for wanting to explore her roots. None of this would be an issue if they weren't famous. I certainly don't get any static from anybody for what I am/am not.
