That's Massive, Sweetie

wenn5030961.jpg

Her last two albums may have flopped, but at least she has a hit movie on her hands!

And, she can thank Tyler Perry for that.

Janet Jackson stars in the writer/director's new film, Why Did I Get Married?, which opened at #1 in the U.S. box office this past weekend with $21.5 million.

What makes this debut particularly noteworthy is that the film premiered on only 2,011 screens.

Big blockbusters and films that open that big usually show on twice or three times as many screens!

Why Did I Get Married? took in twice as much as the film that came in #2 this past weekend, The Game Plan.

Check out the rest of this past weekend's Top 10….after the jump.

1 Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married $21,500,000
2 The Game Plan $11,506,000
3 Michael Clayton $11,010,000
4 We Own the Night $11,000,000
5 The Heartbreak Kid $7,425,000
6 Elizabeth: The Golden Age $6,183,000
7 The Kingdom $4,566,000
8 Across the Universe $4,000,000
9 Resident Evil: Extinction $2,650,000
10 The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising $2,150,000

I'm not going to read all of these comments but I don't know how this became a thing about race. There are tons of trashy films about both white and black people. You have shit from the likes of Britney Spears and Eminem and there is shitty stuff from Black singers and actors as well. Big deal. In case you didn't know there are millions of both ghetto black and trailer trash white people in this country. Deal with it y'all and stop trying to make this about race and insult someone else. I love how the black and white people on this page act like their race puts out better shit than the other. All ya'll are trash!

Well, it's the only "black" movie out there, so of course it's going to do well against the other films. I wouldn't give too much credit to Janet, though. I saw the movie and two of the other female actresses stole that movie from her. Perry's movies usually suck (I hated the Medea films), but I went to see this one because of Jill Scott, and surprisingly, the film was pretty good.

#105,107 You sound like a fucking idiot!!! Who do you think you are stereotyping people that way. Judging a person's color by the way that they speak when all stupid, narrow-minded people of all races and statures use foul agressive language. Believe I have heard such words from all types of people, so unless you have a sixth sense, are a god or something, stops pre-judging people. You should hear the hard, agresive way me and my buddies talk and we all live in teh most boring suburb in the country, ass hole.

I wish they would all just go to hell and stay there. Oh, and by the way fools, Game Plan by the Rock was also a hit movie for two weeks in a roll, without you idiots trying to throw race into the occasion.

Great movie Janet stared in! This week I plan to see "We Own the Nights" heard from many that is great movie too! I'm so happy for Janet, she earned this. She paid for her Super Bowl mistake and I think her next album will be hot, I'm looking forward to that, I think it is coming out sometime after Mariah Carey drops her next cd which the buzz is already good!! :)

      111

Crakkkas cannot stand to see Black people supporting each other and things. They prefer us to kiss their wet dog smelling asses, and support them. Crakkkas get threatened when they see Black people loving each other and sticking together.

Read the pathetic comments made by these pale crakkkas.

White peopel are a sad sad race. They are insecure by nature even with all the money and power nt he world. Look at em. can't stand to see someone else do better than them. They truly have a deep rooted jealousy, fear and insecurity against us Black people. And i see why

      WE ARE THE FUKIN BOMB!

Had this movie been about crackheads and thugs they wouldbe praising it. But we didn't include thier ugly pale asses nor did Black people act like ignoramouses, therefore this movie is "shit" in thier eyes.

      Typical CRAKKKAS.

Some of you people are just sad and pathetic chauvinistic pigs. For the bigots who are saying that this movie is shit because of its mostly black cast, or that Tyler Perry is another arrogant "black man" or any other comment that shows antipathy towards African Americans, I actually feel sorry for you. For the double standard bigots who are stooping low to a level of racism by believing in eugenic ideology by saying white people have small penises, are jealous, etc…, I really feel sorry for you.

It's really pathetic how some of you come on these comment sections in order to entice some sort of racial debate. Some of you really need to seek professional help immediately. If you were really content with your life, you wouldn't resort to racism, sexism, name calling, and being massively ignorant bigots.

On the contrary, wouldn't be nice if we had a movie with a diverse cast do extremely well? I'm talking about having Hispanic, Latino/a, African American, White, Native American, South Pacific, Asian, Asian-Indian, Middle Eastern, etc.. etc… But kudos to Tyler Perry for his success!

Janet succeds as a actress b/c for some reason on the screen she comes across as a normal woman not a jackson freak. On the screen she has a script that tells her what to do. She talks and acts normal. When she is in her singer personna she is stiff and unapproachable. She is beautiful on the screen. Her music is no longer fresh and she is more comfortable as a actress than the bullshit of being a singer.

Really? Well guess what? "The Game Plan", "We Own the Night" and "Michael Clayton" opened in more theatres than Tyler Perry's movie and they ALL got SPANKED!!! What's more, only one movie that opened this weekend made over $15 million and it wasn't "The Game Plan", "We Own the Night", "Michael Clayton" or "Elizabeth." LOL So much for your ridiculous statement that if a movie opens in more than 2,000 theatres it is supposed to make more than 15 million. Deal with it!!! Also, for all of you out there that think that black people are like friggin sheep and went to see this movie because it had a black cast…think again. Last year, Tyler Perry's movie "Daddy's little girls" opened to less than 5 million in its first weekend. This movie did well because it has a light subject matter with a fantastic cast, and yes, this is one of the few times when we can see characters that actually reflect our experience.

      155

to all the black people on here who automatically assume that people are bashing this movie are 'racist', think again. i'm bashing it because a.) it's a stupid movie b.) janet jackson is a horrible actress, and c.) tyler perry makes pure crap. (i.e. medea and all that other horrible mess).

i'm not saying that because i'm a racist, i'm saying it because three other movies with better plots and more talented actors deserved that spot. it's just an example of how DUMB america is. they don't want to see movies with a thought provoking plot, they want to go and be mindless zombies and not think about anything for two hours.

that being said, tyler perry's movie didn't deserve to be number one. instead of supporting shit like this, why don't you support a black movie that can make the black culture proud like american gangster? c'mon, denzel washington is not only incredibly talented, but he makes incredible movies. but no one ever points that out. you're just quick to call us racist if we don't like one of your movies.

Fact of the matter is, all you people are whining about the movie being #1 but even if it wasn't your precious little We Own The Night & George Clooneys film still would have gotten beaten.
Guess what, we have been force fed those types of movies consistently over the past year or 2; They are not a far cry from movies like The Departed, Breach,Fracture, any of the Bourne movies, etc, etc.
Surprise, surprise…………People actually like variety in the movies they see from time to time. In my opinion it isn't about race. It's about the fact that, for a change, there is a movie out that's not about war, politics, saving the world,or corruption and you all can't handle it because it forces you to expand your narrow minds beyond the same old crap.
More than half of you haven't even seen it, so to base your ignorance about it on some half assed excuses is beyond tired. Anybody that has been in a relationship would be pleased with Tyler's movie, no matter what their race is. Appearantly since you batch of loosers beat off and go to bed alone we'll just leave you to "Own the Night" and it still won't change the fact that your sorry ass movie didn't make it to #1.

Who would have thought you'd beat out Resident Evil, and a bunch of other films most of which have been out for 4 months. And what a coincedence, $21.5 mil is exactly the amount it would take to make me see this film. Ok maybe I'd do it for an even 20. Janet really had us going with that "Janet is sexy" shit, for years, didn't she. Isn't it weird and ironic that the man who had a hand in ending that by revealing her nursing home-esque tit, Justin Timberlake, has built his career by emulating Janet's brother?
