Macedonian pop star Tose Proeski passed away on Tuesday after suffering a horrible car crash in Croatia.
The singer, whose fan base rivals that of Madonna in the Balkans, died almost instantly when his car collided with a truck near the town of Nova Gradiska.
Proeski was the most beloved teen pop idol in Macedonia, even representing his country in the Eurovision song contest in 2004. He was also a UNICEF ambassador.
Wednesday has been called a day of national mourning in Macedonia.

I'd just like to say that there are a few people of Greek background that have been kind enough to leave their condolences with out any political undertones, and God bless, those honest kind hearted people that have had the decency to do so, with pure intentions as this really does make a difference. And I’m sure that all these Greek, anti Macedonian comments are not even made by Greeks living in Greece which I find very ironic. I also find very ironic that your own Greek singers, such as the extremely talented Anna Vissi, could appreciate Tose's music as she attended many of his studio recording sessions when he recorded one his albums in Greece, as well as attended his concerts, and commended his musical talent. Also another Greek singer that appreciated Tose's music was Despina Vandi, who loved Tose's song 'Ledena i Medena' and also made a Greek version called Xristoygenna if i remember correctly, either way you can look up the composer of the songs of her greatest hits album to confirm this, as I know there are many people prone to skepticism. Either way, it would be nice to use these two influential Greek singers as an example of the way in which Tose's music, and personality were appreciated and leave politics aside, as they are insignificant in comparison to the loss that millions of people in the Balkans, and Greece are feeling at the moment.
Perez, Thank You so much for posting this! Macedonia and the whole Balkan has been in shock and mourning his death. We all feel the loss, and we cant keep up with time without him! He has been a part of everything! He had alot of charity concerts for the homeless, sick and hungry children, and he was a part of the USAID program as well. He donated alot of money to charities and to people who needed money for surgeries. He had a GREAT voice and he was an inspiration how a kid should be raised into. We [Macedonians] are so pround to be called Macedonian because of him. We are prund that he brought us everywhere he went around the world! And more, we are proud that he represented Macedonia and that he was proud of where he came from! I love him, we all do! And his latest album is unbelivable! The lyrics are all about how God wants him, and how is life is going downwards [where is REAL life it wasnt anything like that]. But Rest In Peace my Angel! I was really offended by some of the comments left on here that were anti-Greek…(i.e. the homosexuality, big nose, 'Greece is the armpit of the world' etc.) I know it's a senstitive issue, and name calling is NOT the solution. You are right there are many, but i read yours and was shocked, and refuse to read any others because it is horrible, the Godlessness of people, putting petty differences before the greater things in life. I think one thing people need to ask themselves (in this instance, macedonians and greeks) what is more important your culture or being an orthodox christian. so that is what is dissapointing, instead of being unified by what is most important in this life, which is our shared religion people want to carry on about the historical origins of Macedonia. as i said the orthodox christian thing to do would be to say God rest his soul, and God help his poor family who are grieving. He wasn't just an amazing artist, but the most amazing person that the Balkan Nations have ever had.
He has managed to bring the feuding countries together with his music, and that alone shows how powerful and beautiful this man was.

Tose proeski will forever remain in our hearts. He is an Angel who left us to early but still watching over us. There are no words to describe the kind of person he was. I do not believe this… People that didn't know Toshe Proeski shouldn't pass judgments. If you don't have something nice to say to the people that mourn, just don't say anything. Have some compassion and respect for the dead. This goes for everybody. Don't fight with other people (especially not by using the language I saw here) on his behalf, it is enough that he is in your hearts. Just say a prayer for him, for his family. These are tremendously hard time for them, God has put their faith to the ultimate test.
Glory was not Toshe's goal, it was a mean which he used to help people. We will not remember him just for his music. He held numerous humanitarian concerts across ex Yugoslavia, numerous concerts for individual cases (he would hear that 1 child needs an expensive surgery or medical treatment, he would do a concert and he would donate all the money to the family). He was a Unicef ambassador of good will for the whole region on only 23-24 years of age. On his concerts, people from ex Yugoslavia didn't care about nation or religion. You could see Serbian flags on his concerts in Croatia, he sang in Croatian in Serbia, no one minded. He united people that are still bitter from the wars and bloodsheds. Keep that in mind and have some respect.
Rest in peace Toshe, you are in our prayers.
Like a beautiful flower that had just begun blossoming - the best years of his life, and at the top of his career - this angel was lifted and taken from us.
No words can describe how we (people from the Balkans) feel right now - not many things in this world can bring out such sorrow distress and misery in so many people….
In a fragmented music scene, often influenced by ethnic chauvinism, Tose was equally welcome in Zagreb, Belgrade, Sarajevo or Skopje - something no other artist managed. In a region haunted by hatred and war, he offered hope. Somehow, with his songs, joy became more joyous and sorrow was easier to bear. His fans didn’t care that he wasn’t Croat, or Serb, or Muslim, or Albanian. He was Tose!
May he never be forgotten and may his music live in our hearts and souls forever.
Please show respect to his fans, friends, and family…

ypu expained the short story of his life very beautifully, there are so many examples of the goodness in his heart, it is unbelievable and very sad. I feel so sorry for his parents, and for his girlfriend, there are rumours she is prehnant with his baby but i dont know if that is true.

beautifuly written… I'm really stressed today… it's been 10 days since he's gone, and I still can't accept it… I don't think I ever will…
he succeeded one more thing- to bring together people, no matter what kin of music they're listening to…
I was really touched today… people who are listening to metal, rock, nevermind what else, were singing "Igra bez granica"…
noone ever managed to do that…
he was an angel… he IS an angel…
I've read that his producents from England decided that those songs, which he sang in english, for his english album, are too good to not to be heard…
so, we'll maybe hear his songs in english…
that made me cry… he had so much to do before he dies…
