"I have clearly stated my belief that gays and lesbians are our brothers and sisters and should be provided the respect, dignity, and rights of all other citizens. I have consistently spoken directly to African-American religious leaders about the need to overcome the homophobia that persists in some parts our community so that we can confront issues like HIV/AIDS and broaden the reach of equal rights in this country.

I strongly believe that African Americans and the LGBT community must stand together in the fight for equal rights. And so I strongly disagree with Reverend McClurkin's views and will continue to fight for these rights as President of the United States to ensure that America is a country that spreads tolerance instead of division."

I just had to say I am so sick of hearing bout equal rights for african americans and gays. Just shut the fuck up already. I saw some special on HBO last night about the equality in Central High School and it just amazes me that half the african american population want equal rights but they could not stay awake in class to discuss it. SAD!! And I think some are missing the fact that we took this land we live on from people that were here long before us. I think if anything we should be trying to rectify that situation. Not continuously try to make up for african americans being sold by their own people to the white population that stole the land from the native americans. shut the fuck up people. There are bigger issues out there.

I think that Obama is being sincere. If you know anything about how he was raised and all the work he did before even considering politics, it's clear that he does believe in equal rights for all people. He's simply responding to accusations that he's anti-gay.

Let's bash the people that deserve to be bashed and leave the few decent politicians alone. No one is perfect, but Obama comes pretty darn close.

Finally. It shows a lot of courage for a presidential candidate to say something like this. There are a lot of ignorant, bigoted people in the world, and Obama is saying that he isn't going to tolerate that. Gays and lesbians are in the EXACT SAME situation that African-Americans were in just 50+ years ago, and both groups have a long way to go before Americans are smart enough to look past sexual orientation and/or the color of someone's skin and judge them based on their integrity or their actions. I really hope he gets elected; we need someone who is open-minded and isn't afraid of homosexuals, the transgendered, or whatever else.

On a side note: A vote for Ron Paul is a waste of a vote. He's NOT ever going to get the Republican nomination, so side with someone who actually has a chance.

The reason Donnie McClurkin has a problem with the homosexual lifestyle is because he was molested by two homosexual men in his family when he was younger. I'm not saying that all gays are going to molest people, but there's a reason why Mr. McClurkin has a problem with gays and he has a right to disagree with that lifestyle.

Ok, let's all just nit-pick at everyone involved in his campaign. THis is why we wll never elect a decent official into office, we all want out president to be perfect. Guess what, he's a Christian, and Christians )besides their views on gays) also are for the most part anti-abortion, should he scour his volunteers and weed all them out too? I think we need to look a little more carefully at the person, and not nit-pick.
