What bothers me is that he brings up international events as a way of deflecting attention away from the ending of his show. It's such a pathetic maneuver - he's the one in the entertainment business, and he's telling us we shouldn't care about his show because of the war? It's like celebrities who say, "There are starving people in Africa, why do you care about my drug use?" Like, there will always be starving people in Africa - don't tell us what to pay attention to!

I loved the Sopranos and I think the ending was great! I never understood why the people who watched the show and cheered on Tony Soprano for 8 years would want the show to end with his demise. That doesn't make any sense to me. He is a Mob Boss. It shouldn't have ended with him dying.

He's not a douche! The viewer was the one that got wacked! You really only needed to watch the show once to get what the ending was all about. When asked about being wacked Tony said " You never see it coming, everything goes black".

Yeah. . . if Dumbledore is gay Tony Soprano didn't die. Maybe I'm just OK with this because I called it when it happened, but unfortunately, if you were going to the Sopranos just for blood you were missing the point. And Bob Harris is a very smart man, but killing Tony didn't make any sense at all if you had been watching the episode and the series closely enough.

Here's a revelation: some of the greatest artists ever have had a certain amount of contempt for their audiences. If he'd ended it the way you wanted, it wouldn't have been his show anymore. It'd be the lowest common denominator.

NOT A DOUCHE AT ALL!!!!!!!!! for all of the violence that peppered sopranos episodes throughout its eight seasons, the show was really about a family man, his friends, his problems and how mundane most everyone's lives really are. to have offered some sort of explosive or deus ex machina ending would have betrayed all that. for all tony's supposed power, he had a failed marriage, a weak son, a complicated daughter, work stress, family pressure, self-doubt, guilt, etc. it's like chase says; he was our alter ego. the point wasn't that he was a mob boss. it was that he was human, and ultimately boring and conflicted like the rest of us. the end was, in a way, boring and conflicted, just as most of ours will be. there's a reason why the sopranos was successful and that is because some with profound human interest and a heightened literary sense created it. notice michael bay never guest directed any of the episodes.

Clearly Chase had nothing left to say, during the last 2 seasons of the show. People kept watching, & hoping something would happen, but it was just the same old nothing. Mobsters talking business at a wedding. Mobsters talking business at a funeral, Mobsters talking business at the hospital. And for excitement- WOW- one of the guys is GAY!! All along, I kept making really exciting predictions, in my own mind, what would happen next. & the show just sucked, in comparison to the ideas I was coming up with.
After Adrianna was killed-(the last real shocker that the show produced). Meadow went to work for the District Attorney's office. She was alway the 'law & order' family member. I thought they were getting gutsy after killing Adrianna. Would they kill Tony's Daughter? if she started ratting the family out to the DA?!? Her first love was killed by the family. Her 2nd love is in an uncomfortable position after finding Vito having sex with a man. She could have easily been flipped, if something had happened to him. Then suddenly, Meadow decides she want to go the pre-med route. The show could have gone crazy at that point. But- it went absolutely nowhere!

The show seemed so smart, but the little bits of Chase's own discussion I've seen (the Emmy's, this) make me think that was some kind of fluke. I never watched the show for signs, good thing, since he dismisses those in this interview (sorry for the people who interpreted the show like literature.) But maybe this is why authors should not talk about their work. It dumbs it down.

I never thought he died at the end. I liked the ending. It was very artistic which is what I expected. I also liked that Tony lived I DIDNT want his life and crew to come to an end. I love meadow and thhought Jamie stole the scene. Of course I also realized that the cable wasnt out and that it really was the ending…when it went black like that someone people didnt get it and I think felt pranked and angry. I loved that too…

in the beginning of the series, I used to LOVE the Sopranos. By the end, I never looked at it. actually after they killed Jackie in the projects….it got very boring, and fake…to me. And then they dragged the living hell out of the seasons.. a season would have only like 6 episodes….pathetic. They are so last century!

I loved the ending. I thought it was really nice. I loved how they kept shooting shots at other people to get people thinking they were going to whack Tony. But it was nice. Showed life goes on. Not the dramatic end most people probably expected but I thought it was cute. The song was perfect.

David Chase missed the point. People weren't pissed because they didn't see Tony get a bullet in his brain. They were pissed because the ending was left ambiguous. Maybe Tony got whacked. Maybe he didn't. And since David Chase said there is no way he is going to make a movie or revisit this show in any way, there are a lot of people who are pissed that they will never get real resolution.
