perez, i enjoy your blog every day, but i am disappointed by your focus on obama. given his proven record of supporting queer issues and his dedication to fighting all forms of oppression, it is unfortunate that you single him out with misinformation rather than posting about unreliable and blatantly racist homophobic Republican candidates. Remember some of us experience not only homophobia but also racism and gender discrimination daily (mostly from straight and queer whites, not black folks). By working with this problematic religious leader, Obama is trying to build bridges between folks who need to stand together (and learn to live with each other) in the face of a fucked up government.

This is a gossip site that I am guilty of coming to in order to see what cr*p is going on in "perez land". With that said, let me tell you about my experiences with Barack. I was a volunteer for him in 2004, and I loved him. He came into the area where most politicians don't even bother with, mostly farms and small towns. A place where he might not feel comfortable with everyone. He was his own self and treated every one equal. That included me, a middle aged disabled woman living below the poverty line and one who was very outspoken in my views. I am very critical of people in general, and in persons in authority especially (politicians, religious leaders, etc) I asked him hard questions, ones that others ignored, and he answered me. Whether he agreed with me or not, he was honest with me. I, like some of the other posters here, are tired of the one interest groups.

I am not religious, he is. SO WHAT! I am morally pro choice, he supports it legally. SO WHAT! He is smart enough to have been against the Iraq war from the beginning. He believes in equal rights for everyone. He believes in upholding the constitution. He is a real person, not an illusion which some of these candidate are. I don't agree with him in everything he does, but I support him because I believe he is what this country needs. And we need him now!

I am a gay man and I agree with many of the intelligent statements. Single issue voters need to look at the big picture. There are many different people and beliefs in this country, a country created to house the many. So, we can't have leaders with single interests. We can't have a leader that pushes the gay agenda on all, just like we can't have a leader that pushes a straight or religious agenda on all. I would hope that the general desire is not to separate a segment of society to a sub level. Whether you agree or don't, or you believe it is a choice or not, there are gay people in society, we are everywhere…in every profession (60K war vets, 15K active military, police, fire dept, medical industry, government). Generally we are good, decent, law abiding, tax payers just like all. Yes, I am with a man..but who cares, I don't care that my neighbors are mostly straight…why does everyone care what one another is doing.

While there are many, many homosexuals in the black community, this is still a taboo subject and while many people may protest Obama's alliance/support from McClurkin, it will not hurt him the eyes of black people.
