I wanted to provide a little bit of balance. The Brisbane MX article leaves the other half of the story out. When I say "let me have a moments peace" I typically do not mean to keep snapping photos of me.
Not leaving a tip is inexcusable. However, he has a staff that should be focusing on the mundane details. It's easy to make an honest mistake when you are attempting to anticipate the logistical nightmare that is fielding the "fans".

No, it's not common to tip in Oz, however, when receiving a meal for free, you'd expect a tip! On a positive note, he DID donate 50 cents from each Aussie ticket sold ($100,000) to Australia Zoo (that is, Steve and Terry Irwins Zoo). It's amazing he ate at Jade Buddha if not wanting to be seen, as it's right on the river and the river walkway. Oh well, he probably heard that Nicole Richie ate their a few weeks ago and thought it was a good place.

For someone over 18, they'd make between 15 - 20 an hour, depending where you work.. And the aussie dollar = about 90c US.. So its not too bad..

As an Americano living in Australia, you're taught not to tip as the minimum wage is around $13.50 and most people earn much more than that. It is not a pro-tipping culture. It's very strange as waitresses are often less friendly than in America, where they put on a friendly act for tips and imho service is much better in America. But everyone earns a decent wage in Australia and they're not dependent on the kindness of strangers. It's a bit weird when I'm in America now and have to tip 20%.

I was at his show on the weekend and he was awesome. The vibe was great and overall he put on a great show. I've liked him since N'Sync and enjoyed seeing him live for the first time.
JT acknowledged us and paid his respects to Steve Irwin with an 100 K cheque to the Australian Zoo. He is talented, and a great performer. He also directed the show and was involved in production and stage design. This means to me that it is uniquely Justin's show and that he has put in a lot of effort for his fans.
The tickets were well worth it!!!

It isn't considered rude to tip in Australia, it just isn't expected. Unless it is a really swanky resturant where the only people who go there can afford to tip BIG, then so be it. We tip if we truely had a great meal, with exceptional service. If we tipped all the time, students would truely go bankrupt. We just like to chill out and eat great food with our loved ones… without worrying about money.

i saw him in sydney, he was amazing. I dont know if it was 100% real but its not about that, its about the performance, which was great. It is uncommon to tip in australia, unless it is generally small left over change or it is a very high class place, other then that i doubt we would leave 15% plus tip for dinner as they do in the US, so no one would have been offended about the lack of tips EXCEPT that maybe he got the meal free? I dont think we should judge. we have no idea what it would be like to have people constantly touching and asking and screaming at you all day. that would be horrible, thats why people go off the rails.
