A very pregnant Nicole Richie has been spotted smoking in public (more than once), the New York Post is reporting.

If she hasn't given up smoking, maybe she also hasn't given up……?????

Actually Dr's are now saying that if a pregnant woman smoked before she knew she was preg to not quit all at once cuz it puts stress on the mom to be which will put stress on the fetus, i think people need to be worried about real issuses instead of a smoking pregnant woman.

I don't agree with what she (allegedly) does but i'm not outraged.
Eating certain food (processed, junk etc) and using beauty products or even shower gels makes your body toxic too.
I think this is a dangerous rumor. Whoever printed it better be damn sure it's true! I see no photos!

All I can say that any doctor that says that whilst pregnant it's ok to smoke or to cut down on smoking instead of going cold turkey is irresponsible and should have their licence to practice medicine revoked. Yes there are pregnant women who have smoked during pregnancy and have had perfectly healthy babies. But it has been proven scientifically that babies of women whom smoke whilst pregnant, have a higher risk of premature birth, cot death, stillbirth, brain and organ damage etc. The list goes on. There have been documented cases of children of women who have smoked who have experienced health problems such as lung, heart and brain problems such as intellectual disability, ADD etc. I quit smoking cold turkey the moment I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I consulted with my doctor on how to quit smoking as I was a heavy smoker and he advised that the benefits of quitting smoking cold turkey far outweigh the risks of quitting cold turkey and not giving up smoking. As an expectant mother who is due the same time as you Nicole Ritchie, please give up smoking now. If you can't do it for yourself, do it for your unborn child. And anyone who thinks it's ok to smoke during pregnancy has shit for brains. Also to those misinformed idiots who go on how its their right to smoke - yes it is your right to smoke but the health of your unborn child and children you have now far is more important than your right to smoke.

You have to be pretty fucking STRESSED to be needing a smoke so badly in the first place.
Smokers have this weird theory that smoking calms them down. WRONG.
Getting their fix- nicotine- will help them (though mostly psychologically) when their body craves it but it is the act of sitting and taking deep breaths (taking a draw) is what gives them the relaxing feeling.
All they need to do is sit their ass down and take deep breaths. I think the first thing smoking does is go straight for the brain and start killing off the brain cells….you get gums and patches to help you taper down the nicotine and actually quitting doesn't take long at all,.
It's just people trying to deal with the fact that they are having to stop something they are used to (habit) and don't really want to stop, and think they can't do so are pretty much doomed to failure.

Ummmm… then I think your doctors might have gotten their medical licenses for the back of a Cheerios box. Smoking while pregnant DOES cause birth defects– and it is one of the leading PREVENTABLE causes of birth defects and later intellectual diabilities.

Additionally, if you haven't seen the new video footage of what afetus does when nicotine is introduced to the placental environment, I am sure that it would make you think twice about what you are doing. The nicotine burns so badly that the fetus practically bends double, holds its breath, and tries to stop the poison from coming through the umbilical cord. Plain and simple, it physically hurts the child. And they are then left bathing in the nicotine that has made it way into the placental fluid.

Oh, and let's not mention the fact that you're then brining a new-born child into a nicotine-ridden environment. Always safe. Especially with the rising rates of cancer for non-smokers from second hand smoke. Living in an environment with second hand smoke exposes you to more nicotine (and the other posions they fill those things with) than the mean smoker does. Sad and pathetic.

Don't do it for yourself. Do it for your kids. You were lucky that they were born so healthy– keep them that way and don't poison them in their own home and daily lives.

Doctors suggest you quit as soon as you become pregnant, but alot of women can't do that (if they are really addicted), but they also suggest that it does more harm to quit further on in your pregnancy, because of the drastic change of environment for the baby. Plus, 30-40 years ago, everyone smoked while they were pregnant. Sure you shouldn't do it, but its up to you doctor if you can't.

I quit smoking while pregnant, and thankfully had two very healthy baby girls. But I have known smokers who, when they got pregnant, were told by their doctors to cut back severely, but if the stress of quitting got to be too much, to have a few drags. It is actually more stressful to the mother and the baby to quit cold turkey. Look into it before you villify Nicole and that woman in England.

Any doctor will tell you that alcohol and nicotine go directly to the BRAIN of an unborn child and increase the odds of down's syndrome, mental retardation, ADD and autism. I smoked a pack a day while pregnant for both my kids. They were born a perfect weight, they're perfectly healthy, rarely need to see a doctor, rarely get sick, if so, nothing more than a mild cold. My youngest at 7 is above average in school and my oldest at 9 is very advanced.

Even if she WAS smoking, and she smoked BEFORE she got pregnant, good chances are her OB told her not to quit. I have numerous friends who were told not to quit smoking after they found out they were pregnant, to just cut back and go as light as possible because if they quit cold turkey the stress on themselves would cause to much stress on the fetus.
