Carrie Underwood's new CD has done even better than we predicted!
Carnival Ride is the #1 album in the U.S., having sold a staggering 527,000 copies during its debut week.
This is the American Idol winner's first #1 album.
Her new disc also bests her previous effort, 2005's Some Hearts, which debuted to 315,000 in its first week.
The total is also the best sales week for a female country artist since Shania Twain's Greatest Hits started with 530,000 in November of 2004.
This was a good week for country music! In a first for the Billboard 200, three country debuts occupy the Nos. 1-3 slots on the chart, led by Underwood's Carnival Ride.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' Raising Sand opens at #2, selling 112,000.
Country singer Gary Allan's Living Hard enters at #3 with 69,000 copies.
Underwood's debut of 530,000 copies is DOUBLE what Kelly Clarkson’s latest CD, My December, sold in its first week.

Why the constant comparisons to Kelly Clarkson? They don't even sing the same genre of music you moron. Kelly is more successful worldwide than Carrie ever will be. (See Mike's post for numbers) When it comes to Clarkson/Underwood the only similarity was that they were both on AI. That's where the comparisons end.

Carrie is just someone that got lucky. In an interview about her new album, she mentioned that she paid her dues on the road…that's bullshit. Paying your dues, as she called it, means playing for nobody in nowhere America, sleeping in a mini van and getting paid shit. She didn't have to do any of that. And she is really not as nice of a person as the everyone believes. Album isn't that great either — "Last Name"….WTF?

I like the album. It's got some good songs on it, but fairly predictable subject matter since it is a country album.

SHANIA TWAIN did 530K with a Greatest Hits. She sold almost 80 million worldwide on 3 albums(TWIM, COO, UP), with COO selling almost 40 million. So Carrie Underwood selling 527K doesn't compare since it's a new studio album.

Clarkson will be around for decades, making incredible music. Underwood will have a couple of successful albums and fade away like almost ALL country female acts do.
