Over Before It Began

South Carolina Democratic officials have denied Stephan Colbert's bid to get on the ballot in his home state as a Democrat.
The Comedy Central funnyman, who plays a conservative on his show, filled out an application and paid the $2,500 filing fee on Thursday.
Forty minutes later, top party officials declined his application, saying, "He's really trying to use South Carolina Democrats as suckers so he can further a comedy routine." And Colbert "serves to detract from the serious candidates on the ballot."
If Stephen really wants to run in SC, he can pony up $35,000 to get on the Republican ballot.
Do it. Don't be a cheapo!

First!
DO IT DO IT!
If CC wants to pony up the cash to put his name in paly then so be it, but I hope he does not spend his own funds.
BRINTEY SPEARS BLACKOUT CD….. WORTH EVERY PENNY !
FIRST!!!
GOOD. Defeating repubs in 08 and cleaning up bushco fiasco is too important for self promotion. I used to watch Colbert all the time till this stunt.
second bitches
1. The Republicans won't take him either.
2. If he ponies up the $35k, the republican party keeps it regardless of whether they accept him or not. In other words, they get a free $35k from him. Fuck that!
You can do it!
Democrats are scared! This is why political parties should be banned!
He can't run on the GOP ballot now even if he coughed up the money cause he missed the deadline, thinking he'd at least be on the dem ballot.
:)
first for once!
He should create his own party to confuse the voters call it the Democrat/Republican party
Every time I see that man, I think it's Bob Saget.
GET REAL, there ARE NO SERIOUS candidates on the ballot!
It's all politics as usual, which is unintentionally comical
FUCK the democrats for denying him. ALL the candidates are a joke anyways, regardless of the party. Colbert was actually less of a joke than all of the candidates put together (shown from the fact he got more of the votes that ACTUAL CANDIDATES) and full of less bullshit, sadly even though he is a parody. that part of the show where he went to talk to ACTUAL PEOPLE, like the black chicks in the hair salon and the people in the gun shop was AWESOME. fucking fail for them denying him. he would make a better president than anyone running, even though his show is a joke. this country makes me fucking sad.
It's just me or democrats are becoming more and more like communists and fascists?…This guy have the right to be a register as a candidate…What a bunch of insecure liberals idiots!
well i think he was planning on going for rep and dem.
Typical Democraps…. their views on "freedom" = denying someone the right to run. "Oh, he takes away from the serious candidates!" Loser Dimocrats didn't even give him a chance. Arnold ran and he's an actor. Regan was one of the best Presidents this country ever had and he was an actor. Dems discriminate!!!
Did anyone even read his book?!?! HE IS NOT A DECOMCRAT - HE IS A REPUBLICAN! HE HAS A WHOLE CHAPTER DEVOTED TO HOMOSEXUALS AND WE SHOULD NOT EXIST AND HOW IT IS HURTING AMERICA!
" Now I've got nothing against gay people. I just don't like how they flaunt it. I'm perfectly fine with someone CHOOSING to be gay, as long as he marries a women and has kids like the rest of us. And if he has to flaunt it, there's a place for that in the privacy of his own home. WHICH SHOULD BE A JAIL CELL"
That's RICH!!! This man is not for the people! He is someone with "traditional" values" and trying to turn the clocks back. Im glad he is not running - homophobic jerk!
Re: JAMES –
Wow, you just don't get it, do you James? What a fucking retard
Re: JAMES – James, you're a moron. It's satire.
Yes, because his book isn't a joke or anything. It's very serious literature.
This sucks. Political parties are such crap.
hey #26, satire called. it wants to have a talk with you.
Re: JAMES – Have you ever watch the show? If you did you'd know that it's a joke. Colbert is actually a supporter of gay rights. When he has gay right advocates on he acts like a hard core right-wing nut about it so he can point out who retarded they sound… he makes himself look like a moron for opposing gay right to further the cause. Anybody who's willing to do that is definately working for the people.
Re: Mark – way to pimp that site…
Re: JAMES –
You schmuck…the "character" of Stephen Colbert is a Republican, but Stephen Colbert, the person, is a Democrat. The character is nothing but a parody of O'Reilly, Tucker Carlson, Ann Coulter (yech), etc. If you take this character seriously, you should seriously consider hitting yourself in the face with a rock.
Britney's new CD suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.
Vote for Gore
First of all, Colbert cannot go over $5,000 in this pursuit because federal election laws will then come into play and the sitiuation will become very messy. Therefore, that is one of the reasons Colbert could not cough up $35,000.
Secondly, I applaud Colbert for showing how messed up the political system and electoral process is. Even though it was a joke, Colbert brought a lot of attention to a subject many Americans overlook. Now, maybe Americans will start thinking more seriously about how freely their elected officials are chosen.
Re: In Love with Colbert – oops… spelling mistakes suck
YES!!!! That's right — the Dems are too pussified to let a real man run, just like always. The stupid liberals don't know Stephen Colbert is really a conservative. You only have to watch the opening of his show to know that. He will kick their ass if he's elected. REPUBLICANS FOR COLBERT!!!!
Re: COCO – Yes, it's just you. You are a retard and don't know what those words mean.
um, #26 and #42- The beginning of his show is a JOKE! He's being sarcastic!
His book is a JOKE! He is MAKING FUN OF REPUBLICANS!!
HE's awesome!
Because Doritos is sponsoring his campaign, he cannot spend more than $5000 on it.
its impossible for colbert to run anyways.. he puts doritos advertising all over his campaign (corporate sponsorship is not allowed in presidential campaigns).. he obviously never wanted to run.. he's just making fun of the system - and quite cleverly too!
I think he should do it. I don't want any of these shit faces for a president. He'd have my vote.
If he does spend that much to be on the republican ballot, he can't use his show in his election coverage anymore. Colbert is still president in my mind though.
It's interesting how this is playing out. There is a face book group that reached 1000000 members in 10 days. Now imagine if each college kid just gave one dollar, he'd have it made. sorta.
#26 - JAMES-
He is a democrat. Is satire really that lost on you, hon? I don't usually like to comment here just for the sole purpose of busting someone's balls, but you're not very smart.
Anyway, I adore Mr. Colbert. It's a shame they wouldn't let him on the ballot…scared of a little REAL competition? Sounds like it. And why is he not taken seriously? Regan was an actor and he was president…The governor or California was in Kindergarten Cop for shit's sake.
YES! Colbert is an ass, a self-promoting ass. I'm glad the NC democrats take the process seriously. To not do so is to risk another Republican in the White House. Our country and our planet can't take that.
Please someone tell Colbert the joke wore thin about a year ago. He's over.
Why is it whenever I see this mans face I want to laugh out loud?
Oprah for president
Re: Catherine –
Catherine, are you just bitchy because you don't agree with him?
What he has done with his comedy career is ground-breaking and amazing.
Silly how you find it so easy to damn someone else's career in a field you most likely know nothing about.
Catherine, you're over as a cashier! Over!
Actually, the deadline to pay the 35 grand to be on the GOP ballot was yesterday.. So he basically missed his shot. I thought it was a stupid idea anyway… All he's trying to do is fuck the election up anymore.. As if we aren't having enough problems in this country.
The filing deadline has passed
Fuck the pussy Dems. Colbert would have made the debates worth watching for the first time ever. He should run as an independent.
Colbert doesn't believe in evolution - he's more of a Republican anyway.
If hje pays 35K to get on the repub ballot, he will have spent more thn 5K, which is the limit before he has to set up an exploratory committe, file with the FEC, and , msot importantly, stop mentioning his run on his own show (networks have to provide "equal time")
HE CAN'T RUN THERE ANYWAY,HE LIVES IN JERSEY.
And give the Republican party that money? No way! Unless he gets in on a debate and humiliates them all, which you know he would. But, the party would never allow him on the ballot anyway, especially since the filing deadline was Nov. 1. He can run as an Independent, though.
NO COMMENT - You don't have to live in the state to run in a presidential primary. None of the candidates on the ballot live in South Carolina. Take a civics class.
It would sure say a lot for America if all the voting South Carolinians would write him in on the ballot.
In fact, if you live in South Carolina and aren't planning of voting, this should be reason enough to change your mind and take a few minutes at the polls.
Let's face it, he beats any of the other morons whose names are on the ballot.
Trent - What are you talking about? Of course he believes in evolution. He's not an idiot.
JAMES - You've never heard of Stephen Colbert have you? He's playing a character. He and a few other writers wrote that book as his character. He's a parody of a homophobe. He's not an actual bigot. One of his good friends is Todd Oldham, for gays' sake. Get a grip.
This guy looks soooo much like Bob Sagget,…. its odd…
He can't pay the $35,000 because then he becomes subject to federal campaign law which would prohibit him from talking about his run on his show (the whole point of him running) and would not allow Doritos to be his sponsor. He legitimately can be denied because hes not a viable candidate for the presidency (since he's only running in ONE state, he couldn't actually become president), but, come on! Let him run, it will at least get people interested in the political process and give Colbert fans something to smile about.
Re: Catherine –
Colbert just had a book published, he is becoming more successful and more watched than John Stewart, and he's got an incredible following. Just because YOU say he is over, does not mean he is over. You just don't have that power.
I'm so sad now.
Colbert would split the Democratic
vote and the Party would never stand for that.
The American public is tricked into a two party system
which is just a shell game with two shells.
Both parties want to expand government control
over the people and the internet and talk radio.
The people are too busy fighting with
each other because of party lines to see the big picture.
.
I am not a Republician and I am not a Democrat.
but feel free to call me names now because I
dare to disagree with your party bosses.
I support EVERYONE's free speech,
even the name callers who shout down
others to cover the fact that they can not present
their case with logic so they resort to name calling
and calling those who diagagree with them names like
'bigot' and 'facist' just to shut them up.
The comment about 35k was a joke - get with the fucking program. Did you all actually think that Repubs charged a different filing fee than Dems?
colbert as president would be the best thing to happen to the u.s.. the democrats as usual i am sorry to say show what a jejune and humorless sort they are. american democrats are no less different than the repubblicans.
eh whatever im a democrat and it was funny while it lasted. its not like he woulda won, but i woulda voted for him over some others hahahahaha.
Re: Trent – You think he doesn't believe in evolution? Well then you've missed the whole point of his show or book or where ever you got that idea. Get back on the short bus my friend.
re: I think a celebrity would be a better politician
I so agree with you, that would be very funny and interesting what would happen
Re: Rash Manly – This is what I always say about the American system… 2 parties just doesn't work… I'm in Canada and we have 4 (well 5 in you count the green party and I think they do have 1 seat). It's not perfect but it's alot better. And you should see the Parliment meetings… the American Senate and Congress is so boring! Nobody yelling at each other or throwing things and swearing… yawn!
It's nice to see such an insightful comment instead of red and blue yelling at each other. Canadians are laughing at the whole thing!
He really fucking annoys the hell outta me, but I'd still love to see him and his tiny dick in the white house.
he should RUUUUUUUN….fuck d's and r's, he should go independant, he'll be better for SURE than bush
Go republicans! Ban those gay marriages!
This guy, is a loser. What's worse is he actually thinks he's funny. He's like "W" in a Bob Saget costume.
why would he want to be a republican, dumbass
like colbert said — the republican party is not worth 35,000 of his dollars. I still love him. and millions of people in this country would have SERIOUSLY voted for him because he is a smart, witty man and is better than the yahoo than we have in the white house now. COLBERT TWENTY-TWELVE!
and i want to sleep with him, so bad. seriously, i would have sex with him every night for the rest of my life. twice a night. in the morning. he is a hella good looking
whatta fucking douche. It's only funny to 15yr olds you douche, get a fucking life. You're a comedian or whatever the fuck you're supposed to be.
Colbert is the sublime combination of intellect and a man exquisitely in touch with ease of being. He is adept at mockery, honest confrontation- Washington Correspondents dinner speech- as well as a lithe dancer and pretty good singer. He has accessed so many parts of himself and this makes him so attractive luv him!
James-you don't get Colbert. His book is a mockery of the right-wing conservatives just like his character on the Colbert Report is. He's all about satire, mockery. He told Larry Kinh that on his recent appearance on larry King.
Thank you for your words number 70
Re: In Love with Colbert –
.
The American two party system is a joke.
The media keeps the two sides fighting with each
other to sell more newspapers and TV shows.
The new facists of America are those
that want to shut the voices of those that disagree
with them.
Hitler used to have a group called the "Brown Shirts"
that would go to speeches and rallys and shut down
people speaking in ways Hitler did not agree with.
.
We have "Brown Shirts" today on many a college campus.
Their job is to "shut down" and "shout down" speakers
they do not agree with.
.
Those that do not remember their history
are doomed to repeat it.
.
Beware the new breed of "Brown Shirts".
They lurk everywhere, including comment pages on web sites.
_
Colbert's sexuality jumps off the screen. Yummy!
He can't do it! If Stephen Colbert spends more than $5,000 on his campaign, he will be in violation of federal election laws.
Colbert is a no-talent ONE TRICK PONY. He couldn't keep up a comedy routine in a traditional sense on stage, the audience would FALL ASLEEP!
He is just a douche-bag. His fans are the biggest Cock swallowers though.
I absolutely adore Stephen Colbert. He makes me want to listen, he makes me want to be aware. Props.
Re: JAMES – OMG James, his whole book is satirical. If you don't know the definition of the word "satire", I suggest you look it up. Hell, the phrase "FROM THE AUTHOR OF 'I AM AMERICA AND SO CAN YOU'" above his name on the cover should be an indication that this book is to be taken as a joke.
Dear Stephen,
If you were to run as a Republican, you'd be the only Republican for whom I'd cast a vote for President. However, both parties SUCK IT so you might as well run — not as a joke, but for REAL — as an independent. I suggest you run on the "Americans for Truthiness" ticket.
He looks like the Dad from Full House….
#14, thank GOD it's not just me! I never saw anyone who looked more like Bob Saget in my life….which is good. Dead ringer…
