I am sure they are asking for meats free of antibiotics and steroids. She is vegan but I don't think she is saying to stop feeding our kids meat just to make meat and dairy products more healthy. See before steroids got into the meat supplie little girls didn't have big boobies and butts.

  2. Michelle says – reply to this

She is stupid and ugly!!… See thats wht happens to u when you dont eat a balanced diet…and being a vegan is NOT A BALANCED DIET…humans omnivores- which means we need to eat vegtables AND MEAT!!! Thats the way EVOULTION made us!!! We need meat in our diets..and KIDS NEED DAIRY AS A SOURCE OF CALCIUM!!! This is so stupid!!!

  3. Mz Jaxin says – reply to this

Hooray for Alecia for teaming up with PCRM (pcrm.org) for this.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is a great organization. If you want information on how to eat to reduce health risks you should check out their information.

I think the fresh act is great. The government subsidizes the most unhealthy items, leaving the healthy items like fruits and vegetables at higher prices. Having lower prices on healthier foods helps everyone! Not only those with lower incomes who can usually only afford packaged junk, but the amount of money needed to be spent on public health care will be reduced allowing those dollars to be spent elsewhere.

  4. Mz Jaxin says – reply to this

PS! Thank you Perez for posting this. :)

  5. LISTEN UP! says – reply to this

Everyone commenting right now shouldn't be unless you study nutrition. She shouldn't either. Some Inuits live on diets of all meat (because they live where no plants grow) and are healthy. Do you know why they are healthy? Because they eat most everything raw AND they consume the whole animal. They don't just pick at it like Americans. So COOKED meat is bad for you and contributes to obesity. Sitting around and not working out does this as well.

I am vegan myself but I still know meat isn't unhealthy. Of course the doped up cows you eat… yeah. Grow a heart and some compassion for other creatures. It is one of the things that sets us apart from them. COMPASSION AND EMPATHY. CONSIDERATION! I'd prefer if everyone in 1st world countries stopped eating meat, dairy and eggs because we are blessed enough to be able to get all our nutrition from plant based sources. We aren't starving to death like the people in Africa and many other poor countries.

Gluttons with no hearts, thats what you all are.

    Hmmm, let's vote on it.

    OK, Douche Award it is!

  8. Mila says – reply to this

Oh come on Perez! You are a vegan? What is up with supporting this craziness. You need to take a good hard look at what she is asking you to support BEFORE you do something stupid!

Our nations farmers and ranchers work a hell of a lot harder than most of us Americans for a much smaller profit. This bill will help them out so that we can continue to have the world's safest food supply. Would you rather your tax dollars go to the members of our society who feel no need to work because they know the government will bail them out?

Vegetables aren't food! Vegetables are what food eats! Someone throw me a steak!

  9. Mimi says – reply to this

I like Alicia Silverstone, but I'm not giving up my meat and dairy! I want them subsidized.

The majority of you need to stop insulting and start getting involved. To diss someone is a sign of insecurity.

Get off your asses and do something!

  12. djibuddha says – reply to this

Nope, sorry. Kids need to put down the Wii, get off their asses, stop drinking the soda, and eating the junk food, eat some fucking vegetables, eat everything else in proportion and live life in moderation.

Alicia, keep acting, but shut the fuck up. That goes for the rest of Hollywood, too.

  13. Mila says – reply to this

This is currently in the Senate. It will have to past the Senate before it gets to the House. I called my Senator's office and they wanted to have a Bill Number reference. Does anyone know what the bill # is?

  21. I LOVE MEAT says – reply to this

Her complexion sucks. So eating veggies only and not wearing leather hasn't done a thing for her. I am going to have a nice juicy fish tonight for dinner. Halibut.. And tomorrow, it's going to be a nice juucy cow. And then the next night a nice juicy chicken breast.

PLEASE. This bitch needs to get a life.
I'm not arguing that she is right or wrong but…
She's out of work, she will be the rest of her life, so she's going this far to have people like Perez pay attention to her?
Yeah, like the government is going to listen to you, crack whore. In fact, they're thinking it over right now thanks to you and Perez posting it on this website.

Stupid slag needs to shut up. We ate meat, eggs, cheese, mild etc & were never fat. Kids are stuck inside because of crime and are stuffing their faces with HoHo's because their mama is at the bar and daddy is no where to be found. Fench people eat this shit all day long & aren't fat because they eat in MODERATION & don't super size everything.

  32. ruby says – reply to this

GOOD! I love her! A celebrity vegetarian who promotes her cause!

  33. Jesus says – reply to this

High Fructose Corn Syrup is the cause for obesity. It's in everything. If you have a coke with your meal you'll eat 500 more calories than if you had water or milk. Start checking your food labels.

  34. jenn says – reply to this

i think there is an underlying problem with what she is talking about and that involves not taking into consideration many economic and class issues involved in food and production. it would be a dream if everyone in North America could afford to buy organic, free range and non- GMO foods, but realistically it is impossible. organic farmers need to charge more for their products because it costs far more money to produce them and distribute them.

eating fast food and purchasing food that is chalk full of chemicals are two realities that many Americans and Canadians face when coming from lower socio economic backgrounds.

unfortunately, living in the richest country, America, does not mean that everyone can afford to shop at whole foods.

  35. PhillipP says – reply to this

She is a horrible crazy person.Write to Silk Soy Milk on their website that you will not buy their product any more until they fire her as their spokesperson. www.silksoymilk.com

  36. meatisgood says – reply to this

oh please, children are obese because of genetics and junk food not MEAT AND DAIRY. there's a reason you're supposed to have a certain amount of each every day. there are more nutrients in dairy and meat than tofu dumbass

  37. anna says – reply to this

Re: person – Person, I don't think Twinkies fall into the category of dairy or meat. If she were banning sweets, that would be a different story. But she's not. And we DO give tax breaks to fruit farmers. What is your point?

  38. Vivvian says – reply to this

After the flood God told Noah and his family to eat meat that was floating by..couldn't be that damned bad for you if God told his beloved to eat it. Good enough for Noah, good enough for me!

  39. barrwiese says – reply to this

Do any of you idiots have any idea what the farm bill even is? Silverstone's right.

Billions of your dollars go to a farm bill that only uses the money to farm 5 crops, all on large corporate farms. Screw the local guys. The biggest crop pushed is corn. The corporations use it all to make high fructose corn syrup.

That is the only sweetener that makes you feel more hungry, not full. It irritates stomach lining. The corporations use it mostly for soda. The price of soda has gone done 20% in the last 2 years. However, the price of produce has gone up 40% and 11 million Americans can't afford to eat a balanced meal.

George W. got you again. And, you are too stupid to educate yourselves. Dear GOD, no wonder America is in trouble. Believe what everyone in charge tells you and make fun of anyone who tries to get you to see facts about your tax dollars. However, whine and cry when local jobs are lost.

  40. Angela says – reply to this

Do you know that the chicken you eat, whether it's from McDonalds or KFC or even your local Wal-Mart is called a broiler chicken.

These are chickens that are bred to go straight to stores. They are purchased by the farmer as chicks and put straight into a warehouse where they are fed non-stop foods with growth hormones and anti-biotic feeds for 45 days. In the same environment. Walking around in their own shit. For 45 days. Some of these chickens develop horrendous skin infections because of this. The larger chickens (males usually) are removed and sent to the slaughter houses. The remainder of the chickens are then kept on (in the same warehouses, in the same shit) for another week to fatten up before they are removed in the dark (because the light would scare them)and sent straight to the slaughter house where their short lives end and within days they are cleaned, chilled and despatched to where-ever you'll buy them from. More often than not, the chicken you buy is pumped full of water (or in some cases 'chicken stock') to make them look fatter than they are. The meat you eat has lived and eaten in it's own faeces. I used to live next door to a chicken farm and believe me, if you saw it, you would NEVER eat it. I love meat. However: I WILL NOT BUY IT UNLESS ITS ORGANIC. Do we wonder why there is an obsesity problem? Are we not eating meat which is force feed growth hormones and god knows what else? FREE RANGE ORGANIC.

  41. Emilia says – reply to this

Unfortunately I don't think that childhood obesity is a result of children eating meat and dairy. More like chips and chocolate bars and soda or fast food.
    Think again.

  42. Mary says – reply to this

can't stand her. do not give her anymore press. She was rude on the view and is a nobody…

  43. Feeeeeeeee says – reply to this

Re: meatisgood – me thinks you have no idea what you are talking about. I am actually positive that you don't. Dairy is the worst animal product you can consume. Eggs and meat are healthy and natural. Of course they are best in their natural state (not cooked, not full of drugs, etc)

Tofu is healthier than both, sorry.

  44. Dewey says – reply to this

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) rocks. It would be great if people were more receptive to actually learning something about nutrition and preventative medicine, rather than stubbornly defending irrational addictions and flawed core beliefs. Have fun chomping down on shit that contains absolutely no fiber or complex carbohydrates and is packed with saturated fat and cholesterol. It's your heart disease, high blood pressure, and cancer to suffer with. Or, stop being a fucking idiot and live longer and more ethically. Thanks Alicia, will do!

  45. LisaLoo says – reply to this

    Is she anti-makeup too? Grody.

  46. grace says – reply to this

Meat and Dairy isnt fueling the childhood obesity epidemic…fried high fat and high sugar foods are. Its prooven that milk aids in weight loss, moron.

  49. perez groupie says – reply to this

meat and dairy products are "FUELING the epidemic in childhood obesity"????

and all along I thought carbonated beverages, fried foods, and trans-fat filled JUNK FOOD were to blame!!!

    Get a brain Alicia Silverstone!

  50. perez groupie says – reply to this

    Re: Shantel

Did you even process what she said? Meat and dairy products!!!! Cher needs to get a clue…and so do her bandwagon supporters

  51. Sage Tekkkin says – reply to this

Re: grace – humans should NOT drink milk anymore once they are weened from nursing by their mothers.

Milk also causes the body to produce excess mucus, which clogs the bowels. That isn't healthy. Milk is for baby cows. Or baby goats, camels, etc. Not baby humans and especially not adult humans.

  52. Sustainability says – reply to this

actually much of the farm bill subsidies are for corn and soybeans for feed for cattle and high fructose corn syrup, among other things. There isn't anything wrong with meat, but the people that get the subsidies are the ones who produce it unsustainably on huge factory farms and load their animals up with hormones and antibiotics, which in turn creates less healthy meat for consumption. More subsidies should be given to small farmers who are dying out at unprecendented rates and less to huge agribusiness giants.

  53. perez groupie says – reply to this

    Re: Pam

Poor fool…do you really think milk causes people to run more slowly or become fat teenagers prowling the local mall?

milk = strong bones (young women are particularly in danger of calcium loss)
meat = amino acids = help build proteins = strong muscles = healthier people!

(quick biochemistry lesson for you: of the 20 amino acids that the human body requires, 8 MUST come from your diet. Because children do not have fully developed metabolic systems, they require an additional 4 more of the amino acids in their diets. These are called essential amino acids. Your body combines amino acids to form proteins. Proteins are critical to making/repairing actin and myosin in your muscles. Amino acids also make enzymes, which help breakdown substances and catalyze chemical reactions. )

  54. Hana says – reply to this

    She's SO right.
I am a vegan and I would phone but I live in Canada.

And fuck off, dissers. If you don't have something good to say, don't say it

  55. sarbear says – reply to this

she's just trying to get all you fat ass mother fuckers from not croaking at the age of 30 beacuse your fails due to a massive amount of animal fat in your system… shes tottaly right! stop eating meat and dairy or die! thats it go vegan! or die! plane and simple!

  56. 233 says – reply to this

Re: perez groupie – You need to do some more research into milk. The protein content is so high that the calcium hardly gets absorbed. Lots of studies have shown milk to be harmful to the body, including bones. It is FOR BABY COWS not humans.

You can get those amino acids from soybeans, lentils, veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds. No need to make animals suffer.. Not that you care about them suffering though, right? You should spend a year in their places and see what it is like.

  57. Go veg! says – reply to this

Alicia rules! She made a commitment to her love of animals and has stuck with it for 10+ years. How can you not admire that? Keep going Alicia and miss seeing you regularly.

  71. Daniel says – reply to this

Doesn't she work at Burger King?

  72. Jesse says – reply to this

Alicia, I love you. All the meat eaters on here certainly get worked up when someone suggests that what they're doing might be wrong. No, meat and dairy don't necessarily make you fat. But you're much less likely to be obese if you cut out meat and dairy. Plus you'll save many animals from suffering and sickening deaths. Please do not say that you love animals if you only love your dog.

  73. Morgan EV says – reply to this

Re: aDORAble – Come ON! She's pretty, and trying to do some good! And maybe it's just a bad angle of the camera.

  74. B says – reply to this

GOOD FOR HER! I love that she always stands for something. She has real substance and I admire her for that.

  75. riles says – reply to this

    umm yea, NEW FLASH!!!
(you moron) meat and dairy profucts are NOT making American kids fat; eating tons of processed foods & sugary beverages and sitting on their lazy asses playing computer games all day are making american kids obese!!

  76. No thanks! says – reply to this

I would rather listen to Britney Spears pop gum for hours on end than hear anything this idiot has to say.

  77. LasVegas says – reply to this

Oh please, kids are fat because of the junk food they eat filled w/ additives and preservatives, not because of meat. Vegetarians and vegans are always trying to make everyone else like them; they want everyone to stop eatting animal products. She's one of those vegans who looks worse for not eatting meat, her skin looks horrible! She needs more protein in her diet, and meat has most of the essential amino acids that she needs.

  78. Flippy G says – reply to this

I like Alicia's message but sorry, it ain't meat and dairy that's behind childhood obesity. It's sugar, meat in fast food, chips, snacks that kids crave, and GENETICS and LACK OF physical exercise. Good for her for becoming vegan, it's actually great for the environment. I haven't become vegie or vegan yet but shudder at wasting food, my dad grew up always hungry.

  79. tiffany says – reply to this

Physicians for responisble medicine is just a cover for PeTA. Peta wants to abolish ALL human animal contact including pets! Dont support them if you love your pets. HSUS is the same. Support animal welfare, not animal rights

  81. ginger says – reply to this

  83. Kylie says – reply to this

Those who have studied nutrition will know that you get enough of what you need from a good range of raw fruit and vegetables.

Milk & Meat are unnecessary and REALLY do make you fat. I worked this out when I became a raw vegan. It was the best thing I ever did - I feel and look so much better. I wish people would understand, but they are so brainwashed by the dairy and meat industries.

  84. cher says – reply to this

Now, she really looks Clueless in that pic. She used to be so cute. What a shame.

  85. Monkey is tasty says – reply to this

Children, this is your skin on vegan. you get terrible acne.

    Meat will fix that.

  86. Rabbit says – reply to this

Where are these obviously malnourished, self righteous vegans everyone keeps talking about? Every vegan I've ever met, I'd have had no idea they were vegan until it actually came up in conversation. Vegans, for the most part, look and act like normal people, until it's dinnertime or they have a reason to talk about their beliefs. Sure, there are exceptions, but I find that it's defensive meat eaters who are the pushy ones!

Vegetarians say, hey, maybe the government should stop subsidizing agribusiness, and by the way, meat and dairy isn't as healthy as you think it is.

Meat eaters are the ones saying "EAT A BURGER BITCH."

Who's pushy about their beliefs again?

If you consume more calories than you use, you gain weight. If you do not consume more calories than you use, you either stay the same weight or you lose weight. People like to blame fast food restaurants or say they weren't born with a fast metabolism. Incorrect. Take the high calorie, large portion meal out of your mouth. Problem solved. Swipe the doughnut out of your 6 year old's mouth too.

  89. Thomas Fitzgerald says – reply to this

That is hilarious, imagine if she actually knew anything about politics and the food industry's then no-one would be safe!!

  90. Babette Bombshell says – reply to this

Alicia's crap isn't about children's diets or eating healthy… it is more nutso animal separatist campaigning to try to dress up their proposed legistlation in "save-the-children-from-obesity" drag. They want to pass laws that will help them in their quest to stop the beef and poultry industrys… simple as that. They just don't respect your intelligence enough to say it. They'd rather lie and manipulate.

  91. Rachel says – reply to this

The only reason she went vegan is because she was a fatty when she had her 2 minutes of fame. Give me a break, ugly freak.

  92. Donna S says – reply to this

    Re: DonnaRe: Jesus

The real Donna has worked her ass off to educate people on what "Jesus" said. Soft Drink, High Fructose Corn Syrup, processed food and lack of exercise are the cause. Alicia should not speak about children's nutrition without a medical background, it's irresponsible. Children need a balanced diet.

People should not pretend to be Jesus either. Enough John Mayer.

  93. meat muncher says – reply to this

I was a vegetarian for many years when i went to a 7th day adventist school, and it wasnt so bad,b/c the chefs put supplements in our food……..oh and ya know what else its gross, but when u went to the bathroom there was like nooo smell !!!!!!!!!! looks like alicia might need some supplements……and maybe a poke sandwich

  94. jelly bean says – reply to this

she is just trying 2 help instead of being a useless celeb you people are all a bunch of stooooopid cunts you get a` lfe she is doing something with hers
this world is so fucked up and weird someone has 2 teach you celeb hungry shallow people about morals but you'll never learn

  95. Nemo says – reply to this

She's not talking about her, she's talking about taking meat and dairy out of children's diet. They need amino acids, iron and calcium. Adults can do what they want. Alicia is starting to sound like Jessica Simpson. No brainers. Dora the Blue Tang In Finding Nemo has nothing on these girls and people who think growing children should be vegan.

As a mum I ensure my two little one's eat fish esp fresh salmon every day. Free range eggs and dairy products are important. As are grains, fruit and veggies They need it.

You don't put your PETA politics before the health of children. I wish celebs would quit tricking people and be honest about the fact that they are entertainers not Drs, politicians or the messiah. Yeah they all want to control the world. Problem is they are not educated. Shouldn't the intelligent lead the way. Fame is not a sign of intelligence.

  96. rommel says – reply to this

  97. pegasus says – reply to this

    Re: Nemo

Get a fucking clue Nemo. You think you can't find amino acids, calcium, or iron in non-animal products? Right. Then all those people out there who are currently living as vegans must have some sort of *magical* metabolisms that allow them to survive without these vital nutrients.

What do you mean "do something?" You mean, in Hollywood? The fact that this woman is trying to make things better and do something positive with her status is a breath of fresh air. Just because she's not show her good or going into rehab doesnt mean she is not relevant. Seriously, Perez, there is more to life than Hollywood.

Processed foods are what causes obesity in children in the U.S. not dairy and meat. If you check the label on almost any snack food, cracker, "fruit" snacks you will find corn syrup and hydrogenated oils. We need to stop the push on corn (which is largely subsidized by the gov't) it all ends up as corn syrup in our children's foods.

There is much to what she is saying. No animal drinks the milk of another animal. Stop and think about that.

Also, meat and dairy are contaminated with antibiotics and hormones. Why do you think we have super viruses now? There are reasons.

Think about what you put in your mouth. You are what you eat!
