it's a much talked about performance because this song is usually done acapella and in a very sad tone…

      she completely changed the song.

Of course this means nothing unless you are a fan of Tori, so if not, just move along.

Did nobody notice that she actually had a gun and she also sounded like she was close to tears during the song? I can't believe the assholes screaming during the song. In Toronto some idiot called out "I love you Tori" during the quietest part of snow to which Tori replied "bite me". More Tori please!

God, I wish I could go see her. She just does things that no one else could pull off. And, thank God, her new album is just fantastic.

      22

I love Tori, the last time I actually got to see her live was almost 10 years ago. Really a great performance, big change for this song. Tori is amaizing.

    23. Laury says – reply to this

      23

I'm not a Tori fan, mainly because of her horrible cover of my all-time favorite song, Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence, but my eyes were glued to the screen. That was an amazing performance.

    24. Lindsay and Vanessa: THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT! says – reply to this

      24

I was there.. and WOW, what a riveting performance. First she pulled out the knife, which I could tell made some people in the audience uncomfortable. But then the gun, pointed first at herself and finally out in the audience until the lights dimmed. You could hear the audience rumbling everything from "what the fuck?" to "she's amazing!" For a song that's usually done a capella, this version blew me away! The arrangement was completely revamped and the way she incorporated the props made it visually stunning. Viva la Tori!!!

    25. JLoco says – reply to this

      25

      Devil's advocate, here…
If Jay-Z or Scott Weiland or Britney Spears incorporated a weapon into a live performance, they'd be demonized FOREVER. I do not agree with Tori on this one. Seems like she's trying to hard. Maybe to make up for poor record sales.
I believe the lyrics to this song are powerful enough without the gratuity.

    26. marc says – reply to this

      26

i was there…absolutely haunting, intense, uncomfortable…everything. people need to understand that this song is about tori's own experience with being sexually assaulted and is usually done a cappella. this was performance art in the form of one of her alter-egos' (for lack of a better term) perspective. probably too deep for most of you, but for true tori fans, this is astounding.

    27. They just can't... says – reply to this

      27

Sorry, but the likes of any other pop tart or rapper trying to pull off what Tori did is impossible. Other lyp-synching non-musician no-talent performers just can't replicate the power of this performance because it comes from Tori's own experience, not because she thinks it will sell records.Christ, can the U.S. tell the difference anymore…?

    28. Chris says – reply to this

      28

I was at this show in Chicago. She was amazing - a real artist. Britney can go suck it!!

    29. EmilyJ says – reply to this

      29

I've never heard this song before, but I understand why she would use the props. She had a knife held to her by someone who wanted her dead, and it was completely out of her control. She said that singing this song made her feel like she had some control..and by holding the knife to herself, she was controlling the knife..it couldn't hurt her. It may also help to change the whole experience in her mind, because in front of her fans is where she feels most powerful and safe.. so she decided to share her personal experience with them. It's actually quite powerful..and I don't think she did it for publicity.

    30. Sad says – reply to this

      30

have been a long time fan of hers, but I hate what she did to that song. It was so powerful in its simplicity and raw pain — this just cheapened it IMO.

another aging musician desperate for something new and edgy.

    31. Holly NH says – reply to this

      31

I was there and I was speechless. Pip performing 'Me and a Gun' seemed appropriate since Pip has trust issues. She held a knife in front of her,( as a phallic symbol), and picked up a gun and held it to her throat at the end of the song. It was an unforgettable performance. I love you Tori!!!!

    32. keer says – reply to this

      32

      i was there!!!!!!
the knife and gun were pretty stunning and unsettling really. especially when she threw the knife down on the stage and i saw it skid a bit towards the audience. ( i was watching from above)

i dont think i can say enough how good the show was .. ive seen her before but this was special due to the intimacy of the space and the way she completely merged herself into these different characters so convincingly.
so im happy to see the coverage.

    33. james says – reply to this

      33

Tori's a brilliant performance artist. Nothing she does during live shows is for anyone but the fans who are there. Singing a 17 year old song at a small concert in Chicago isn't exactly a tool to sell her new album (which, by the way, sold just fine compared to most other female artists who've been around as long as she has). This isn't about sales, it's about art.

      47

Tori writes her own music, sings live and plays her own instruments….rather listen to her any day than all that other prefab crap being put out there where the talent lies with the producers, not the artist.

    48. reggaemuffun says – reply to this

      48

I didnt see anyone mention that this song is about her rape. I know that Tori fans know that… but possibly no one else here realized it.

As a victim of rape myself, this song is very dear to me and this version is even more powerful. there is a lot of anguish and confusion that comes from an experience like that. I believe her original version shows how numb and disbelieving you one can feel after being raped. But this version definitely shows the pain, anger and regret one feels years after the event.

I respect Tori so much. I am glad there are still some heartfelt artists still out there for women to look up to.

all of you who call this boring just dont understand this is the first time she has ever done this song with a band and the props push this over the edge and she's brilliant and actually writes her own songs something most of music artists on this site can't do and she will sing and talk about whats really important what people won't actually talk about she is a true artist who if you let her in will effect you more then anyone else, i dont know where i would be without her

!The article went on to say that the survivors encountered an island the next day, in the vicinity of 47° 9' S, 126° 43' W, even though there are no charted islands in that area. Most of the remaining crew died on the island, but Johansen is said to be "queerly reticent" about what happened to them.

For real and it was THE most intense experience I've ever encountered. The power and amplitude of the performance–WOW! An artist able to recreate something already so profound into something completely different entirely (gah I'm outta words about this show!) is an artist indeed. If you can feel this even .01 percent on the video tori makes a huge impact on the struggle for informing our community about the reality of rape and what survivors face. To those at the show with me last night: we will never be or think the same.

      88

OK..this is ridiculous. I completely understand Tori's trying to "mix it up" ’cause it's probably boring for her to sing this song the way she normally does. If you haven't seen her live, it's poignant. She sings it acapella and in such a moving way, that you almost cry. This song is about her rape many years ago. This song affects a lot of women who have been raped. This song empowers them. I don't know if Tori's finally just gotten bored with herself and introduced all these alter ego/personalities. But this version is something Britteny would do.
